Took my 7 years to get an adjd diagnosis, they just would t put me through ,said it was " personality issues" and told me to take more antidepressants (which were making me too hyper and impulsive ) lost my job in the end . Shall be having autism assessment soon . So proud of you for sticking up for yourself ❤
I'm so proud of you I got diagnosed with adhd when I was little but two of my family members and my old counselor noticed something about me , so I'm going to call the doctor about getting a assessment for austism tomorrow
Iv got an autism assessment with Psychiatry UK on the 13th of Sep and I’m so stressed about it… this has helped to kind of know what to expect a bit more. Iv already done as you had an looked up who is doing my Assessment and things. Iv also got a fear that I’ll hide it because that’s my go to , to try fit in. Thanks for making the video ☺️
@@AdelaideSaywell unfortunately I didn’t get any answers 😞they decided 40mins in they couldn’t confirm nor deny if I have ASD as I do have traits but due to a complex mental health history it’s possible my other diagnosis are overlapping and could possible be the cause of the traits I have. So they want me to have an assessment in person, which they can’t provide so psychiatry UK discharged me and I’m back on the very long NHS list.
They do have to pay for it... in a way. The NHS isn't just magic, they have to pay for treatments and they have set budgets. With Right to Choose, it's effectively the NHS paying a private provider because the NHS themselves cannot provide treatment in a timely manner. It is however a legal requirement so if you are in England your GP has to refer you via RTC if you've asked for it (based on certain rules, in some cases it's not applicable).
Thankyou for this, i was refused RTC a few monnths ago too and didnt know how to stand up for myself but im gonna go back to my GP and try again, been on waiting list for autism 2 and a half yrs and its really bothering me as im struggling with my type 1 diabetes control due to both autism and adhd
@cuca_ it was fine! I was super nervous and probably didn't bring up as much as I should have, but I got the diagnosis in the end. He also told me to go get an ADHD assessment so I'm on the waiting list for that now lol.
@cuca_ My assessment was over Zoom. I'm not sure if that's the standard or not, but it's the only option I was given, so I assume it is. Most of the questions they asked were actually sent to me beforehand in an email to fill out in my own time. It was kinda just standard questions asking about whether I display symptoms of autism, whether my family/friends have noticed any of these symptoms, etc. They also sent me some questions to check for anxiety and depression since those can overlap with autism so that's something to be aware of. My assessment consisted of the email questionnaire and 2 Zoom calls, one with a psychiatrist and one with a psychologist. The first call lasted about 40 minutes and was basically just him asking me the same questions I filled out on the email and gauging my reactions. The second appointment was 20 minutes since basically all information had been gathered already, so he just told me about my diagnosis. One thing to keep in mind is that they will want to know why you want a diagnosis, and there is no wrong answer. I'm not sure I explained that very well, and I unfortunately don't remember the specifics of the questions, but I hope that helps you somewhat. Just try to relax and be honest, and everything will be fine. It's a lot less daunting than it seems. I hope everything goes well for you :]
@@cuca_ it was definitely less scary being over video. I also had quite a difficult time with the question of why I wanted it so I kinda just went with a "Professional PR answer" which was something like "I just want to be able to explain to people why I do the things that I do." My GP said that when he got his diagnosis it was like getting the instructions to his life
during my autism assessment the psychiatrist made me aware that, because I am quite uncomfortable with eye contact but also don't want to come across as rude, I tend to end up almost staring instead
@@SnowLily06 for some reason I’m a bit meh about the staring. I just think of it as something I do, I guess. Because if I think too hard about the ”appropriate amount” of eye contact I can’t concentrate on the conversation and to me listening is more important than eye contact. I’m very much not a multitasker hehe
Congratulations! I got my autism diagnosis in January last year and I cried with relief when she told me! I'm just debating whether its worth getting an ADHD assessment/diagnosis and waiting even longer for that...
I would say, if you don't feel it necessary, then don't, but its always better to be on a waiting list and change your mind, than not be on it and then in the future wish you had gone sooner x
I have my assessment in a couple weeks. I'm in the US so I felt more comfortable paying than fighting the healthcare system to get an assessment with someone who probably only specializes in stereotypical "boy" presenting autism just to be told I don't have it. My parents got me an adhd assessment when I was 15 and they said I don't have it, but we'll see if my provider tells me it's adhd and autism. Hoping it's worth the 2k I spent
I have a question I wondered if you knew, so I've been to see the mental health nurse who agreed I meet criteria to warrant an assessment for Autism & ADHD. She referred me immediately with right to choose for ADHD, but said, my autism one has been sent to the secondary team who will see if they agree I need an assessment. Does that seem right? She said within about a month they will make contact with me. I'm confused
Was it just a questionnaire/ interview you had to do? Or were there any other things such as different tests or activities you had to complete? Also, how did you go about getting your friends to make statements about u? What would they write down? 🤍☺️
it was a series of questionnaires pre assessment, and then the assessment was an adult assessment so I didn't need to do any activities. they asses your answers, the way you respond to questions and if you ask questions back, they asses your actual answer swell but a lot to do with the way you deliver it :)

I’m confused by where you say ‘dead name’ does it mean you transitioned genders? Sorry i hope it’s ok to ask
my dead name is the name I was given at birth, which is not the name I use or go by :)
What's up with all the background noise? Not helping my headache.
