You have you taken the time for this comment and your words give us the encouragement to continue providing videos. Thank You from the bottom of our heart. Jerry & Lori
I just have to tell you two that my wife and I absolutely love you :) your videos are so very helpful! We are 18 mos to two years away from attempting to retire on reduced Social Security at age 62 but after many years of good income. My goodness but the life there appears to be WELL within our reach! We plan to come visit later in the year and see if it is truly the paradise it seems to be, but it is our conversation at every dinner meal :) Born and raised Texans in D/FW, we sure look forward to leaving the rat-race! We hope to run into those two beautiful smiling faces when we come to explore.

Belize has one of the world's best retiree programs. Through the Qualified Retired Persons (QRP) Program, the government gives qualified retirees an exemption from taxes on all income derived from sources outside Belize, whether such income is earned or passive, and whether or not it is remitted to Belize.

Thank you for the great videos! Will be visiting Mexico next month- can't wait. Do you have any recommendations about setting up banking and how to ship goods that you can't carry on plane, especially US tax records, etc that you need to keep for a few years?
First of all when you get down here please let us know we would like to meet with you and maybe answer some questions in person. People do use professional moving companies from United States to bring down there household goods. Or if you're talking about something that'll fit in a duffel bag you may be Best just to pay the extra to send it with you by airplane. FedEx comes here and DHL. Not necessary to have a Mexican bank account but if you want one and you have a permanent visa, House address, Utilities in your name you can get a bank account here in Mexico. Just use your bank in your own country deposit your money into it and just use a ATM card down here. It's a lot simpler. thank You for subscribing to our RUclips channel Lori and I appreciate You very much. Jerry, discovered you guys a little while ago and am having fun watching your videos. A question, how did you originally find the apartment you portrayed in this video?
Another great video with lots of good information... My plans are to retire next January so about 11 months to go... Everything you talked about I think about on a daily basis... It's very encouraging when you talked about both of you living on $1.200 when next year I should have about $1.300/month (just myself) from pension and dividends since I'll be 61 and no social security at that time... I'm thinking about delaying S.S. until age 65 to get a higher monthly payout... health insurance is my #1 concern right now.....thanks again for both your efforts putting out these informative videos...

I started subscription to your site a few months ago,Thank you so much for all the info you and Lori share. It's all very overwhelming at times, but every time I watch you two, it makes me a little braver to make the move. I have pension $$ currently (I'm 62) and not taking SS yet. I'd like to wait til I am 65. If I move before I start taking SS, how hard is it to get all the SS paperwork, etc. done from Mexico? I have been thinking/reading about your area for a few years now and am planning to come down for a visit w/in the next year. I have traveled a lot to Mexico and I LOVE the people. I've just just always been to beach towns. But the Lake Chapala area looks lovely. Thanks again for all that you do for us!
Paula thank you for the question. We agree at times it does seem overwhelming. As you may know Lori and I have traveled to over 35 countries and what amazes me that I personally get apprehensive and a little nervous about going on another adventure. So what I am saying is that change, something new, the unknown is always a little scary. But when I'm in the airplane or driving away to our new destination that feeling of being scared dissipates into excitement. So Paula don't lose hope. About the Sosa security checks. We were able to do all of our paperwork over the phone. We do use an address in the United States to have all of our mail sent to us and then they forward it down to us in Mexico. 🇲🇽 You do not need to have a bank in Mexico. We have our Sosa security checks deposited in our account in the United States. Down here we use a debit card for all our monthly expenses. We also use a debit card with no international transaction fees so we get our money out of the ATM without pain The bank fees down here. We use a debit card with Charles Schwab investment and they give us free international transaction fees. We love the beach also and as you know we still have a home in Hawaii. After moving to the interior part of Mexico we have found our Little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Paula you may want to look at these other videos if you haven't seen them already. I wonder how other areas of Mexico compare price wise. Even in the touristy area around Cancun we found costs very reasonable, but not super-cheap. Scooter rental was $12 USD for a day, Bermuda was the same rate per hour. We took a short taxi ride for 10 pesos (80 cents at the time).
Excellent question. When you get away from the tourist areas prices drop in half. Here's a video one month expenses living in Mexico. ruclips.net/video/9-PNL7e-KKA/видео.html
Nice very informative. I collect all the knowledge of everyone. There is still the question about the requirement for a permanent retirement visa. Not the pension, the investment. Can the investment be also a house, condo or apartment for yourself.
The Amount of money you need to show the Mexican government to get a temporary Visa that is good up to four years is $1650 a month per person. You cannot use you are Home, Condo to qualify. They want to see money in a bank account or in a investment Account. Such as 401(k)s etc. When you come down you can easily get hey six month visa and you do not need to show them and income. What did we came down on the six month visa then investigated what are next step would be to do. After six months we drove back across the US border and came right back and had applied for a temporary Visa that is good up to four years and that's when we need to show our savings and social security income. When you come down the first six months then you can talk to an attorney that has other programs where you can only show the income of one person $1650 a month and be able to use there husband-or-wife saving as there there also'. Thanks Jerry $ 1650 a month is just fine, because I had a form with requirement of US $ 2200 and this even in Switzerland a amount for 2 people. For a single like me about $ 200 short to the US$ 1650.- Thanks anyway I may will visit you somewhere in Chapala. Cheers Peter
You are the nicest couple. I am thrilled for you . I would enjoy no more snow and ice! I love Mexico. Please tell me how close to the border are you? Do you have a car? How do you receive your SSI insurance? Is banking available there? And can you get USA TV shows? Thank you. This is my first time watching you.

Yes and I have a friend that is coming to Mexico to have her teeth done and hopes to stay there at least 6 months to explore---she is on a fixed amount of SS....

Often wonder what some of my house designs would cost to build by the lake. I have many Senior housing Ideas at my 4Fathoms Designs @Facebook. Several I would like to do a senior walled compound with.
Mexico Best Place To Retire 2017 Voted #1 ruclips.net/video/y5k56UAW1yY/видео.html Bill I just talk to architect and builder and they said you can build here for $55 a square foot to $60 a square foot for the building only
Just a bit higher than I expected. I am sure if some shopping around were done in the outlying saller towns that could come down to the $35 range pretty fast. Of course the land purchase would have to be figured into any homes built there.
another amazing video thank you very informative the bad part is I don't quite make that monthly but you need to make in Mexico and having to leave every 6 months how long do you have to stay gone? how long does it take to reapply can you leave for a day and reapply for another 6-month Visa? I just want to make a mention of Laurie's adorable outfit at the market the black and white with the scarf just adorable thanks guys
Having a six month visa it's very easy and you do not have to show your income. Every six months you just crossed the border and then you can turn around and come back to Mexico and reapply for a new 6 month visa. ( you can do that all in one day or less ) A lot of ex-pats are you doing this method so they can live in Mexico.

WOW!!! you guys appear to be genuinely happy and still in love with eachother truly and deeply! I guess I'm a bit jealous but in a good way jealous a bit not envious! I now know that Laurie is Cambodian and not Felipina.I was in Cambodia just a short while. I was staying in Allanyapathet Thailand right there on the Cambo border, trying to set up gem deals for Rubies and Saphires and got into Poi Phet Cambo a bit not far from Batatbong! I remember there at the market in Allan, there were a number of real poor skinny Cambo kids that the Thais allowed to come into the market there 9klong Luk) in Alanyaphatet and beg.I felt sorry for those kids. They weren't starving YET! but not far from it! I sat 'em all down at a table there at the market at this open air restaurant and bought a shitload of Gai yang (bbq chicken) and a bunch of rice and I think some veggies and some sodas too if I remember right. Those kids each took about 3 bites of the food I bought for them and then had the waitress pack all the rest of the grub up in little plastic bags for them to take back to their families there in Poi phet. Anyway I lost a ton of dough trying to get rich quick in the gem trade but I did do a couple of good things while I was there and helpin out those poor kids was one of em I reckon. Thanks Jerry and Lory. And: I like the cute behaviour you give to your girl, Jerry ;-)So I learned you can survive with arround 1100,--€ as a couple, but for a better life with some extras you need there at least maybe arround 1500,--€.
Hello Jerry you said the Mexican gov. require $1650 a month income and my wife and I will be living on our social security also mine is over that limit but hers is not will this cause an issue for her to stay will we have to leave every 6 months as well because of that and if so how long to you have to stay out of Mexico because that is a lot of of cost to get to locate a new place to move to every 6 months not to mention the cost of the permits for the car to come into mexico again and stay again for the car this is starting to look like it is more of a hassle then it is worth the more i go.
Hi Michael you have inspired me to make a video on the visas. Here's what we did. Michael when you drive back before the six months visa has expired you can just cross the border turn around come back into Mexico and reapply for your new six month visa. About the car deposit when you leave the country they will credit you back the deposit that you paid originally ( this may take two weeks to get the deposit back onto your credit card account ) Then after you've reentered the country you will Pay another deposit on your car. And that deposit will be returned to you every time you turn in your sticker that's on your windshield at the border before you leave the country. So the Mexican government knows that you did not so your car in Mexico. Michael how About the rent we rent on a year lease and when we leave the country we don't stop the lease on our home.We just crossed the border turn around reapply for a six month visa and come back to your home. You do not have to stop your lease on your home just because you're leaving the country. Michael it seems complicated but as I said before when you come down there's a lot of people that will help you and little by little these little challenges Will disappear Michael change is always scary. Lori and I have travel to over 35 countries and every time we planned a trip to another country I am nervous. I would have thought by now I would not get nervous but change is always a challenge. I push through it Little by little it all falls together. So Michael don't lose hope. As always thanks for your questions Michael.
Thank you Jerry and Lori for all your help with things this is a really big move for my wife and I we don't have a lot of money to play with because of of my health in the past years that is one of the reasons we are looking to move also looking for a warmer climate to live in and a slower way of life and simpler is what we really need we just know we can afford to do it because when we get rid of everything were committed 100% we wont have a home or anything thing here in the states or the money to buy another and just out social security to live on.We just want to make sure this is going to work for us,again thank you for taking the time to answer my questions like you have.
Let's talk about money and money expenses. a couple can't live very realistically $1800 a month and up ( this would include your rent Utilities,) and not be restricted on restaurants, socializing, movie theaters, Plays etc. Remember we live on $1050 a month for everything two people. But we did not eat in restaurants and only look for free entertainment. We did that for three months the same amount money each month and then eventually started to eat out at Restaurants, more social activities Entertained, And it's traveling in Mexico and now $1800 a month M/S Did you see Retire early How Much Money Do I Need : Ajijic Lake Chapala, Mexico ruclips.net/video/rG5gAxkKf7M/видео.html One More Time Thank You for subscribing to our RUclips channel Lori and I appreciate You very much. Here is another question about a concern of mine...: We would like to ship our household belongings down and rent an unfurnished place. Is that possible? And how would that work? Thanks Jerry!
There are moving companies I'm here in Mexico that will take care all for you. Look up on the Internet movers in that area you would like to move to and they will give you all the details. And yes you can rent an unfurnished home.

Hello, so I realized that you said it was 1650.00 a month usd to get a permanent resident visa but I also have researched that there is a temporary resident visa also that can go up to 4 years with an income of about 1000.00 usd a month? is this correct?
When applying for a temporary visa or a permanent it's best if you call the Mexican consulate in your area and asked them what the cost is that day. Because they charge you per Mexican pesos then they calculate that daily rate into US dollars so the price varies. Laredo Texas is it good entry point and they will generally are lower in cost. okay here's what I found Mexican Consulate Laredo Texas. phone number is 956-723-6369 PS let me know what you find out. Thank you Jerry
It is easier for a foreigner to find more job opportunities in the big cities like Guadalajara, Mexico city, etc. But I am sure that towns like the ones around lake Chapala will have some too because is a retirement community where many foreigners live. Having in mind that the money you make in Mexican jobs is not so great compared to the money they pay in USA. The best way to make money in Mexico ( I think) is to open your own little business, shop, etc. No only for foreigners but everyone in general.
Thank You you are the greatest and keep doing what you're doing is appreciated by all. Check out this video on RUclips: Good & Bad Ajijic & Lake Chapala North Shore Mexico ruclips.net/video/gKCmt8qcTto/видео.html Mexico Q & A Retirement Community ruclips.net/video/P-EpZGzWICI/видео.html
I am on $1100 a month Soc Sec disability. They take $125 out of that for Medicare so about $975. $10,000 in savings and no other debt. Am currently living in the back of a minivan in the AZ desert. Not a great quality of life but better than being in my bedroom waiting to die. Do you think that at the age of 54 I would be welcomed into a retirement community??
In a previous video we mentioned that we were able to live here on $1050 a month to live at that low we were not able to eat in restaurants, we do not drink alcohol, smoke, eat meat ( those are more expensive items in a monthly budget that we do not have to pay) we only took the bus and walked everywhere. Today 2018 the rental market has gone up so you may have to look for somebody to share rent with. Also here in Ajijic the cost of living is much higher so now people are living in the the town of Chapala ( that is 5 miles away from Ajijic ) also to live here and get a temporary visa you have to showing income to the Mexican immigration department somewhere around $1500 dollars a month. Things have changed starting last May we have seen prices go up in rent, food, entertainment, just about everything. This areas become very popular.
@@JerryBrownTravels It sounds like it's time to find another area in Mexico (hopefully) that's less popular. Not for you two because you're already well established there and probably don't want to move but for anyone just now moving to Mexico. The same thing happened to me in a town I lived in in the USA called Asheville, NC. It was pretty easy to tell that in 5 years everything would change. That's what I said at the time and wouldn't you know it? it happened. (The only time I've ever predicted anything correctly! ;)
Here in Ga there is a QMB program that you can apply for that if you qualify for pays for medical. It also helps with medicine costs. You go.to your local ebt office and apply. I hope this is helpful. I currently live off of $923 a month.$423 goes to rent. Nothing is included. Still have utilities etc...Its hard but doable.
So you get this pass and then leave for a day or a week and then apply to come back? Every 6 months? Then that income proof requirement is Not an issue? Correct?
Yes every six months if you leave the country come back again and apply for a new six month visa you do not have to show any income requirements. So far that is the way it works put the Mexican government changes its rules sometimes.
Hey Jerry, very nice video! I am 33 years old and already retired. My wife and I want to move to Mexico permanently mid 2018 and we plan to live off my pension. I make around 3100€ /month, thats about $3.640(USD) or $70,000 (Pesos) a month... we will also have around $400.000 (USD) to settle down in Mexico, to buy a house, etc... Do you think we will stuggle? How realistic is it that we will live a good life with 2 persons, 2 dogs and 2cats on my pension alone? Thanks for your feedback!

Grand that's one alternative and the other alternative is someone does not have the $1650 dollars a month income.
It's a lot simpler.

ty for all your good info. can u explain how you recieve mail and delivery from Amazon orders online?
We use a mail service ( see Info. below) We have our designated mailbox number so our mail is sent directly to are PO Box here in Mexico.
We have a FedEx office here also and there is an "Amazon Mexico" or you can use the US Amazon. I understand they will deliver it directly to your home address in Mexico. We've only used Amazon Mexico once and they delivered it to our home. I hope this helps.

YOU CAN DO IT on $1300 a month. when you get into Mexico check IMSS health plan ( see Link)

Nice comment and Lori and I appreciate you very much.
You do not need to have a bank in Mexico.
Keep doing what you do is appreciated by all.

Thanks for all the videos. Never been to Mexico except the border towns. Do you drink the water? If so, how did you transition to it?

Cheers Peter

Bill I just talk to architect and builder and they said you can build here for $55 a square foot to $60 a square foot for the building only
Just a bit higher than I expected.
( you can do that all in one day or less )
A lot of ex-pats are you doing this method so they can live in Mexico.

WOW!!! you guys appear to be genuinely happy and still in love with eachother truly and deeply! Please let me know about the chemtrails Jerry if y'all would partner. I'm pretty much thinkin solid on Peru at this stage of the game plan but I'm still open for Mejico It's a lot closer and I'm no stranger there! Get back to me when y'all can bout the chemtrails if y'all'd be so kind as to do so partner! Thanks! BLESSINGS TO YOU BOTH! Markos Manydogs

Michael when you drive back before the six months visa has expired you can just cross the border turn around come back into Mexico and reapply for your new six month visa.
About the car deposit when you leave the country they will credit you back the deposit that you paid originally ( this may take two weeks to get the deposit back onto your credit card account )
Then after you've reentered the country you will Pay another deposit on your car.
Michael it seems complicated but as I said before when you come down there's a lot of people that will help you and little by little these little challenges Will disappear
Michael change is always scary.
Planning a move, this answered slot but left me with ?. Ssdi. Passport? How to apply visa. Who to call? ??? I’m coming 😁
Can you please rephrase your question?
Husband and wife can you collect two social security?
I thought you can only collect one per household?
Each person who has work is eligible for Social Security.
Beautiful Couple❤️❤️
Thank You
What is your combined SS...if you don't mind my asking?
How much does one have to show in a bank acct for the long term visa?
Let's talk about money and money expenses. a couple can't live very realistically $1800 a month and up ( this would include your rent Utilities,) and not be restricted on restaurants, socializing, movie theaters, Plays etc.
Remember we live on $1050 a month for everything two people. But we did not eat in restaurants and only look for free entertainment. We did that for three months the same amount money each month and then eventually started to eat out at Restaurants, more social activities
Entertained, And it's traveling in Mexico and now $1800 a month M/S

what is the process to received your social security check???mail???deposit???or your family members from here (u.s.a)they received for you????
We have our SS checks deposited into our checking account in the US and us a ATM when we travel and living in Mexico. We all us a privet mail serves' ( mailbox etc.)for our mail.Ever thing works very easy and effortlessly.
Here is another question about a concern of mine...:
We would like to ship our household belongings down and rent an unfurnished place. Is that possible? And how would that work?
Thanks Jerry!
There are moving companies I'm here in Mexico that will take care all for you. Look up on the Internet movers in that area you would like to move to and they will give you all the details. And yes you can rent an unfurnished home.

Jerry Brown travels i do watch other videos but they are about cost of living and safety
Laredo Texas is it good entry point and they will generally are lower in cost. okay here's what I found Mexican Consulate Laredo Texas.
phone number is 956-723-6369
PS let me know what you find out.
Thank you Jerry

how about if one on social security but they want to work is it hard to find a job in mexico if one a foreigner
Right On good answer.
Jerry Brown travels Thank You Jerry!! ;)
ohla, when you leave country every 6 months, how long do you have to stay out, was told you just have to cross border and come right back?
YES just have to cross border and come right back And get a new 6 moths visa

Then that income proof requirement is
Not an issue? Correct?
Yes every six months if you leave the country come back again and apply for a new six month visa you do not have to show any income requirements. So far that is the way it works put the Mexican government changes its rules sometimes.
were you guys lived full time?
We live in Ajijic Mexico.

Thanks for your feedback!

as shady as the mexican government is i don't think you need to stick to the 1600 dollar rule. just go stay and be happy.
Grand that's one alternative and the other alternative is someone does not have the $1650 dollars a month income.
You get a six month visa so you don't have to show any income and every six months you go back to the border and apply for another six months visas.
This is what most people do and in this way They sleep better at night

so confusing .....your social security was 1200 and you have to show proof of 1650. this is a joke about leaving all the time and the cost of that. LOL live in the Philippines and just relax and enjoy life.
Rodney I'm sorry for the confusion. This video Lori and I are telling are story when we first came to Mexico 7 years ago. At that Time I was making $1250 a month Social Security..
WE did not need to show ( We were traveling on a 6moth visa no incime needed)
4 years ago the laws changed. Know the Mexican government make pay $1650.to get a temporary Visa it's good 4 years. If you only get the 6 months Visa No income needed under $25 USD
