I agree with your 50k limit. Toyota is pricing themselves of the picture for most folks with the new generation. I also feel the 3rd gen had the perfect amount of tech for me.
I had a 3rd gen and now have a '24 TRD Sport Premium...it is a better truck in every way, basically. I especially love the added tech personally...so I guess ymmv. It is expensive though...no argument there...
Just bought a 2024 Nissan Frontier pro4 x loaded with all kinds of features and a sunroof plus spray in bed liner for 40,000. First ever Nissan ; feels solid and well built. I don’t have too worry about the turbo blowing out on it. I am not a brand loyalist and yes I owned a 3rd generation Tacoma but this underrated truck beats this current Tacoma generation. Why buy any of these 4 Cylinder turbos trucks if all I am going to get is another 1 gallon or 2 MPG combined it makes no senến.
That's why I bought the last 2023 v6 offroad before they went turbo. A few mods, and you got all the truck you'll ever need. Fully loaded for only 47,000 You gotta have good foresight.
I agree that 50K is way too much for a mid size truck. And I don’t want a Half Breed because the battery is under the back seat and it takes up all the storage in the back seat and I use the under seat for storage. And I still don’t trust having a battery inside the cabin area
I didn’t leave Toyota. Toyota left me. Had to buy something, 2010 rusted frame Taco. Loved it but couldn’t wait any longer for safety. Minimum needs are V6 and absolutely no turbos!

If I was in your shoes, I’d keep the Tacoma too, just roll with it and enjoy it until something else you like comes along, don’t go backwards to the previous generation, that ship has sailed. A TRD Sport for over $60K is criminal. That dealership is marking it way up. MSRP for a TRD Offroad Premium i-Force Max is about $57K. It's still above your $50K limit, but not the criminal over $60K. Call out that dealership.
It's like Clint said; "A mans got to know his limit." That's the problem now days too many don't plan their finances wisely. It's smart to have a set dollar amount. The most important dollar figure when making a new vehicle purchase is the 'Out the door price' not the payment amount, not the term. Finance office people don't like me, I won't buy anything from them, take a 1200.00 ceramic coating for example they're selling them, crazy.
I am like you, I planned on getting a new one, but I currently have a 21 trd-off road that has the 6-foot bed and every option that was available in 21. To get the same setup in a new one would be dumb money so I am going to keep mine for years to come. Also, there is no way would I step down in options just to get a new one, once you have all those features it is hard to give them up.

I agree about Tacomas being soft. My 2023 Off Road is very cushy, more so than my Dad’s 2017 L4 SR. Both trucks have the same overall length and wheelbase (Dad’s DCLB & Mine ACLB)
Yesterday I went to the local Toyota dealer here in Salina KS. They had a Trailhunter and a TRD PRO Tacoma. Wow!! That TRD PRO was awesome. Now, its an expensive truck, almost $66,000. But it is the best looking tacoma. Makes me want to trade in my new '23 4runner limited for it. It sits higher and is wider than the other tacomas. It was the Terra color. In person it was bad ass and so much better in person than any pictures.....

Toyota has pretty much gone to Hybrid only. I used to buy Toyota Venza,Sienna which are Hybrid only. I have no desire to own a Hybrid at this time. I own currently own a 2015 Venza V6 AWD and a 2016 Tundra V8 4x4 no recalls or issues with either. I change my oil,brakes and tires which is it. Gas mileage is immaterial not having ,zero repairs.👍
Hey Rob! I drove the Hybrid Max today, that engine totally blows away the V-6! You could negotiate soon for a lower trim with the Max, for around 50K, it’s worth the Money!!
47,795 TRD Sport hybrid model starting price, the one you looked at must have a lots of options. Anyway my dealer said that Toyota informed them that they're going to start ramping down production of Tacomas for the rest of the year and ramp up productions of Sienna since they aren't such high demand.
They have 2024 TRD Sport Hybrid’s In Pittsburgh at my buddies dealership for $50,000 Online price. Sticker is $53,000 . They have a nice little sale going. I do agree though.. prices for all these new Tacomas are way too high. I think every trim level should be on average about $5000 less than they are listed. Its absolutely insane that the prices jumped 8-10,000 for certain trims this year!

Hi Rob. I posted before, hope all is well with you. Just to relate, I was also a forever Toyota fan and was waiting for the 2024. There was nothing wrong with my 3rd gen but felt ancient. I was really eager to buy a new 2024, was just waiting for them, already decided the 3rd gen was a transition vehicle for me. Then, the price came so high, I was so dissapointed, which opened my eyes to other brands. Of course the 2024 has more features, but those are things, like 8 spped transmission, that other brands have been offering for many years already and should be considered modern standards. And the base models come bare, which forces you into needed to buy a package of some sort. Relationships are two ways always Rob, you are loyal to Toyota but they are not loyal to you?. Totota moved manufactoring to Mexico, yet priced the Tacoma to ridicoulous levels? This is the most profitable car company in the world. I know this is your business as well, I people need to be happy with their vehicles. But it is indeed expensive comapred to competition.
I would get a I force Max limited I think it’s got a lot of luxury and if they took it way upscale what is the best value for the $$ with that all wheel drive system and adaptive suspension. Probably not quite your speed Rob but if I were into trucks and being the old man I am that’s what I get lol
I have to give you props for sticking to your 50k limit. I'd say 50k is more than enough to pay for a fully loaded mid size truck. These companies have gotten out of hand. Younger guys pay attention, you are a main driver of these prices. STOP taking out 6, 7, and 8 year loans on cars. If you can't pay it off in 4 then you can't afford it.
Well hmmm, this is a sample of 1 so not valid. Have a friend over here that has a 10+year old F150 with the 6 cylinder turbo has 250k on it. Biggest repair it has needed is the front ball joints. Otherwise plugs and filters oh and tires. At least in his case the turbo tech seems advanced enough to be able to go the distance. You should be able to run it a year. Not sure if the shakes from not trading will let you go much longer than that.
@@RobMotive Look at fowler toyota in tulsa. They have 4 x 4 sport in orange msrp at 52k. I looked at one month ago at Jim Norton in tulsa that was 51800 and they lowered to 49k if I wanted it. I just wasn't ready and still thinking I'm going to a land cruiser

If you are disappointed with the turbo 4 banger; you are also going to be disappointed with the hybrid. It isn't really that much more ommph anyway. If you want a well build truck with a very well engineered drivetrain that will go anywhere - just go get a 2024 4Runner before they go away later this year. When you have it, take a look underneath. Everything is massive and build to take anything you dish out at it. The transfer case is at least twice the size of the 3rd or 4th gen Tacoma. Likewise the transmission. It is the last of the really well made Toyotas. I had a 3rd gen Taco and was disappointed with the flimsy body panels and the delicate drivetrain. The 4th gen is even worse.

I have a 19' SR5 and it treats me well! It's 4x2. I kinda, at times wish I'd have gotten a 4x4 but here we are. And I'm pleased with it!

All new Tacoma’s are too high. That’s why the lots are full of them. they can’t sell them. My dealer has rolls of Tacoma’s.
Dealers around me only show a small fraction of their stock online, they have tons on a vacant lot a couple blocks away

Thank goodness you are keeping it. Don't think you will EVER regret doing so. PS did calculate mpg by hand new orleans to houston 31 MPG 65 mph.
