It was honestly the first thing I thought too. Especially with height, if you're just an inch or two above or below the requirement, just try it anyway.
Sandi is touring New Zealand next year. She should visit Hobbiton & other LOTR/Hobbit film locations, take heaps of selfies & send them all to Cariad. Cariad's reactions would be fun to watch.
I like it how the phrase 'Dog shit,' trumps the more common phrase "I was shit," simply with the addition of the word "dog." The English language is a funny thing .
Not knocking the idea (although I love Brad Douriff as both Grima and Pieter de Vries from another favourite epic of mine) but Alan might have made a scarily accurate Tom Bombadil in LOTR. He has that completely random but very funny thing going that makes you think, wait, he's clowning around, but this guy actually has wisdom that I cannot even imagine.
This clip is from series P back in 2018/19, the short clips on the QI youtube channel are usually taken from older/not current episodes. Series T will be the upcoming one, hopefully some time this fall.
It's the Easter eggs the QI elves subtly drop in that make it so special. Knowing Cariad is a giant LOTR nerd and also putting her on with others that auditioned for her to geek out on when she finds out.
Anyway, nerdery my foot! Voted again and again best book of the 20th century, "The Lord of the Rings" is a work of unmitigated GENIUS. I don't quite understand people who haven't read it, but who adore the film. With the exceptions of those who cannot read, for whatever reason. Imagine the book without "The Scouring of the Shire" or Eowyn's and Faramir's beautiful love story, to name but two episodes! I can't do it!
Samwise is actually an Old English name, which does indeed mean "halfwit/semi-wise" In lotr, it's a translation into the Common tongue from Banazir, which is Sam's true name in hobbitish. *been a fan for years, and I only found this out yesterday 😁
Frozen donut sounds like the sort of cushion one might need if, following a particularly violent curry, you were experiencing the Fiery Ring of Doom. So, quite fitting that it could be shortened to "frodo."
A man named Samwise Gamgee wrote Tolkien a letter saying that he hasn't heard of him or read his books, but people keep telling him he's in them. They didn't even have it at his local library back then, so Tolkien replied saying they're quite good and asked if he'd like him to mail him a copy of the books
@@andemaiar Well, that sounds like you think she was being deliberately deceptive instead of what I'd think is much more likely, which is just that she's more excitable than she is observant, and she honestly thought she got the line right. I only remember seeing her on QI a couple of times, but she's generally struck me as being a bit daft. Still, that's not a crime, and you don't have to be particularly bright to genuinely enjoy something.
It’s definitely more. I love Cariad, the books by Tolkien, the LOTR trilogy and The Hobbit / LOTR audiobooks read by Andy Serkis so it would be a win win. That being said, I didn’t like The Hobbit films and I refuse to watch the rubbish on Amazon lol
I'm with you on the Hobbit films. I watched the trailer, and was somewhat horrified by that, but gave the first film a chance. The only part I really like in it was the meta-scene where they show the battle of Azanulbizar. The rest of it was really kind of awful. I know that Peter Jackson didn't have his normal time to develop a project he picked up from someone else, but I thought the film was largely rubbish, and I'm glad I didn't punish myself with the other two.
I would say give the Amazon series a chance rather than flat out refusal. It's certainly better than the Hobbit trilogy. It's not perfect but it's entertaining enough. I'm a bit of a Tolkien purist but have enjoyed the first couple episodes with only a couple niggles.
@@katfezza4570 But definitely wait a month or two to not give Amazon any ratings. They butchered all of Tolkein's lore, and deserve to lose all of the billion they invested.
I saw the first Hobbit movie in theaters when it came out and I thought it was a really good entertaining film! Although I hadn’t seen the LoTR films (except for falling asleep watching the DVD when I was like 10) or read the books yet.
You can be very talented, but just not right for a part. Or you may look at a part and you see it being played differently than the director is envisioning it.
I'm pretty sure you have to be quite self aware when you're a stand up comedian because of how instant any negative feedback can be on stage. As a matter of fact I doubt I've ever heard a comedian talk of themselves as a proper actor. The only one who comes to mind might have been Robin Williams but I'd say he was probably an actor before a comedian seeing how he went to Juilliard with Christopher Reeves and all.
@KJudgeMental Both Stephens, to be precise: Stephen Fry, obviously, but also Stephen Colbert, possibly the greatest living Tolkien nerd outside the British Commonwealth...
I definitely fancy Cariad Lloyd even more now. I didn't think it was possible.
You and me both
Never knew her before. She's automatically amazing, after this
It’s definitely more
Was coming down here to say exactly the same!
I'm not even a fan of Lord of the Rings, and it's definitely more for me, too
@oliverhayhoe I beg your pardon, but if you were replying to me, more what ?
1:29 Alan giving AMAZING career advice
It was honestly the first thing I thought too. Especially with height, if you're just an inch or two above or below the requirement, just try it anyway.
Cariad Lloyd is preciousss
And then I love how Stephen actually got a part in it.
"An election??? Preposterous! I won't stand for it!"
"I don't think they'd ask you to stand sir!"
😁
What role did he get?
Master of Lake-town.
Even though it's rubbish (The Hobbit).
@@ripdbtpoo1441 Pretty great actually.
"You look more like an elf - get out" actually makes for a hell of a compliment. XD
I want Cariad on Taskmaster. Please, make that happen. Just for me.
And me. Please! 😊💜
Yes!
Just thought the same! She is funny and has her own ways of thinking.
Not just for you. She would be massively popular and an easy fan favourite
I second? Third? I umpteenth this suggestion!
Noel totally looks like an elf though, where Josh and Alan look like hobbits.
And Cariad looks like a goddess!
Nah Noel looks like
Elvis Presley here for some reason
Yes, and that's what they said...
Addressing Mr George Bland.
Cariad is the cutest!
Cariad actually is the Welsh word for "sweetheart".
She's just delightful

she might want to move in, to the Shire...everything would be 'her size'! xD
I assumed that's where Sandi was from
Cariad just got even more beautiful
3/5 people in this episodes could easily play hobbits.
That's a short assessment.
4/5 really. Basically everyone but Noel.
@@DanBrown96 Noel can be tom bombadil
I want her more everywhere! She’s my fav
That was one of the best shorts.
Loved it
Aww, love Cariad! As for Alan saying she's the right size for a hobbit, I'm quite sure she's 5 foot 7.
I think he might have meant Sandi, who is indeed almost the right size
Cariad’s tiny…
"I don't know if I fancy you more or less now" and both Sandi and Noel say LESS? Git you a girl with passion, peeps!
Fine I'll just say it here.
💖💖I LOVE YOU CARIAD!!!💖💖
She’s great isn’t she?
Cariad 🥰🥰
You wonderful, intelligent, beautiful Human 💖
At least if he was a hobbit Noel would have a good excuse to spend 4 hours in makeup every day lol
"Only 4 hours?" -Noel
Noel has finally got a good haircut! He looks like a young Elvis!
Definitely more!
Cariad......my favourite 😊
I like it how the phrase 'Dog shit,' trumps the more common phrase "I was shit," simply with the addition of the word "dog." The English language is a funny thing .
I absolutely love Cariad :)
Actually Alan could have played a convincing Wormtounge

Wormtongue.
I picture Alan as Farmer Maggot. Can definitely see him as Tom also! :)
OMG
Cariad is adorable!
WTF?!!
They so should have make Noel an elf. That would have been brilliant!
He would have been good as Lee Pace’s brother or something
More. Definitely much more.
Agreed.
I'm not even an LOTR fan, but I fancier her more! It's cute to have interests!
An LOTR remake with Alan as Gandalf, Noel as Legolas, Cariad as Samwise and Josh as Frodo would be lit! 🤣
Still time to get a cameo in the series...
It's "Havo dad, Legolas"
"It's definitely less" 😂😂
Sometimes Alan's facial expressions remind me of Eddie Izzard.
I will always fancy Cariad, no matter what.
Oh, yes. 😍
hmm smart elves knew what they were doing with this upload

It's definitely more.
Ah, Cariad! Your nerdiness makes you irresistible!
... a lot like that Ring was. ;) :D
Cariad is so cute.

Elvis in christmas sweater.
I disagree, that was immensely attractive

It's reassuring when very attractive women like Cariad Lloyd have geeky passions.
Alice Fluck! 😆
It's Clunt.
Noel’s haircut is giving me weird feelings, but thankfully that turtleneck is dispelling them.
Alan is brilliant...
no
As if I needed another reason to swoon over Cariad.
If QI was in middle earth:
Alan/Josh/Sandy - Hobbits
Noel - Elf
Cariad - Woman of Gondor
Stephen Fry - Wizard!!
It's the Easter eggs the QI elves subtly drop in that make it so special. Knowing Cariad is a giant LOTR nerd and also putting her on with others that auditioned for her to geek out on when she finds out.

Go Cariad. 😎
As Tolkirn himself wrote, Sam is shortened from Semi-wise, or in other words half-wit, which is the meaning of his name in hobbitish.
I mean, thats the in story explanation.
And he also wrote that Frodo was shortened from Frozen Donut because Frodo loved his donuts frozen.
Samwise is actually an Old English name, which does indeed mean "halfwit/semi-wise"

WOT THE FUCK, objectively wrong answer
Was Sandi too short to be a hobbit?
talk to me about Tolkien as you do the mating dance ov an ostrich Cariad Llloyd!
Never knew "cariad" was anything more than a term of affection. Live and learn.
She's the personification of the term. (Idk Celtic languages what does cariad mean)
In Welsh, it can be a name, it can just mean 'love' (as in the concept or feeling) and it can mean 'beloved' or 'darling'.
Noel would have made an excellent Gollum though.
