Now you can appreciate the scale of the tragedy for k-pop with the disbanding of the BEST group in the entire existence of k-pop. Their music gave people a feeling of joy and unexpected happiness, you could look at them endlessly and the only problem was the pain in your cheekbones from an endless smile. The group was unique in everything - from the concept of girlfriends being almost sisters, which even disbandment could not do anything about - they remained girlfriends FOREVER. Up to their talents in singing and dancing. GFriend is the only group in K-pop in which all the members have excellent vocal abilities (5 out of 6 girls participated in the King of Mask Singer competition, Eunha and Umji - even twice) and dancing talent, they were called the Queens of Synchronization because their synchronization was at the level of telepathy (they could do choreography blindfolded) while they moved synchronously like a school of fish. There was no queen or central star in the group - all were equal but unique parts of the same mechanism. And most importantly, they were real, behind the scenes they were (and remain) the same girlfriends as on stage. It didn’t matter to them: hype, PR, pathos, they didn’t make a cool-crush concept or commercial music for a large number of views and likes, they just made masterpieces. Their style of music is called orchestral pop because it is filled with classical instruments combined with electric guitar, all their songs are melodic (there is no place for rap and other popular rubbish in them), and their choreographies are positioned as powerful innocence - because they are both cute-sweet and energetic by execution. Watch their dance practices and you will get aesthetic pleasure, although watching the dance practices of other groups after that will no longer be interesting. Repeating the choreography of GFriend in K-pop is considered aerobatics.

@@fonvibestv , yep, especially against the backdrop of the disbandment group IZ*ONE, the reason for the disbandment, which is the purchase of half of the places in the group by rich parents (which is not a crime in Korea), the group was formally disbanded due to vote rigging in the competition, which is essentially the same thing. But even the criminal case did not stop this group from giving a farewell tour before disbanding. After which the paid part of the participants spread throughout K-pop like a plague. At the same time, GFriend was disbanded in 2 days, without any explanation.
The best song of GFriend counts - Rough (시간을 달려서 - litteraly in Korean - Running Through Time, which in the context of the lyrics and Clock's final pose implies going through a difficult period of time in life), which is still ranked 2nd among K-pop girl group songs of all time (with 15 victories). The total number of victories in music shows is 71 (so far) and VIVIZ has 2 more - the only group that achieved such a result without any cash injection from a large company. At that time (song Rough), their small company, in which they were the only group, was on the verge of bankruptcy. By the way, the lyrics in GFriend songs are great, and if you want to get English subtitles, then watch their MVs on the 1theK channel. In general, it is believed that GFriend have no bad songs, EVEN their b-sides are excellent both musically-lyrically and choreographically. GFriend have more than 48 choreographies of only their own songs, not counting covers and collaborations. Also, girls from GFriend have more OST than all other K-pop girl-performers combined.
GFriend also have a dilogy (which is actually a trilogy) of songs: Time For The Moon Night (TFTMN) and Sunrise. Between them lies Sunny Summer, but not many understand the hidden meaning of this song based on Shakespeare's sonnets and the work A Midsummer Night's Dream. Most perceive it as a cheerful summer song, although it is an important link between TFTMN and Sunrise. In general, all GFriend songs are permeated with one story line coming from the concept of the group’s name - GFriend (in Korean 여자 친구 litterally - girlfriend). Simply enter symbols first, which are then used in other MVs as: a glass bead, a clock=time, a paper airplane, a blue butterfly, a mirror, a goldfish in a jar, flower petals etc. There are no random shots in GFriend MVs - everything is thought out to the smallest detail and hidden Easter eggs. Therefore, I recommend getting acquainted with the work of GFriend in chronological order, after which you will see how the girls grow and mature.
Mago lyrics is a reference to witches that burned by the society for being themselves.
It is about empowerment and acceptance with societal roles paved and percieved.

17:18 these are not spell gestures, 17:09 - the girls’ hands create an apple tree, SinB’s red hair in the foreground is an apple on this apple tree. There are spell gestures in Mago 3:42 - the girls make magical gestures above their heads. In general, based on the symbolism hidden in the Apple MV, I could write a dissertation. Well, the main point here is that this is the title song from probably their best album - Song of the Sirens. The classic sound of GFriend is based on the same musical harmonics that are used in the intro to the anime, so many people feel similar. But in fact, these are just similar musical harmonics and nothing more.

I would love to see you react to GFriend some more but it is hard to recommend a song you may like as nothing is like Apple. Choose a few songs from different years and you will slowly see them mature before your eyes from schoolgirls to confident women. Synchronised dancing is the essence of GFriend as they invented x 2 dance for variety shows and are acknowledged for their precision and sharpness called often knife like choreography. Watch any dance practice and you will be amazed.
First time commenting but I've been watching your reactions, especially to Viviz and I really love it. The lyrics of Mago mostly tell the story of girls (well, women) empowering themselves. The meaning of "Mago", from what I remember, was left vague whether it's like the East Asian goddess (I think) or like "magician" or "witch" in some languages. But in general, the song is a self-empowering song about wanting to "fly on a broom" and being free and adventurous, not caring with what the world thinks. The lyrics from the chorus "my life is waiting for you, the girl who is smiling at me in the mirror” referring to them meeting a confident version of themselves in the mirror (which is interestingly a concept of one of their bside, Room of Mirrors). Another lyric of the chorus as well is the "Mago Mago, go on and judge me now, I won’t ever waver. Mago Mago, dance a dance for me." This is where we can see them not caring about what the world thinks of them and just doing stuff for themselves and not for other people, basically finally learning to love themselves. One of my favorite lyrics is in the bridge "In the blessed flame, I fly reborn" which gives the image of a phoenix being reborn from the ashes symbolizing them rediscovering themselves and being more confident. They deem themselves as the "modern witches" who live for themselves confidently no matter how the world judges them. Also, the album with Mago is called "Walpurgis Night" which is basically a night doing things to ward off witches or something.
Also, just so you know, Mago and Apple are a part of trilogy: Crossroads, Apple, Mago. So you'll notice a bit of witchy aspects in Apple as well, even in the lyrics.
Also again, I just want to mention that the girl pole dancing in the Mago MV is Yuju and she's now a soloist and she did a performance in Seoul Music Awards with pole dancing as well.
The conversation with the mirror continued in song Mirror from VIVIZ in the final song (and best of all their songs) from their debut album. All correct, but I'm add only: the song has line 6960 magic - it's about the nebula NGC 6960, which is called the Witch's Broom.
Bless you. You are among the special group who really enjoyed "Apple", since most of their fans are too stunned just by their visual styling in this MV (that includes me). It's a travesty that Gfround was forced to end their contract after "Mago".
While "Apple" is a true outlier in the Gfriend discography, I suspect you will enjoy the rest of Gfriend's song as well, given how you take joy in the instrumental and member's vocal. You were probably referring to the slab bass that drives the beat in "Apple". BTW, yes, Umji is the maknae in Gfriend.
In terms of the storyline, Gfriend has an extended, overarching lore that reaches back to their debu, and Hybe actually released two explanation videos to give listeners help track the development of the story. One of them is "A Tale of the Glass Bead : Previous Story", and the subsequent follow-up video "A Tale of the Glass Bead : Butterfly Effect".

@@fonvibestv Yon can say that. Gfriend was known for a unique, specific sound that leans on dramatic, impactful melody, often featuring dominant string instruments such as violin and electric guitar. Their music tended to be bright and become more mixed as their music evolved. The group ventured out and experimented over the years but their signature sound remain the staple for their title tracks mostly. "Apple" and "Mago" took place at the tail end of their contract during their musical journey that made a notable turn while their styling also grew more mature at the same time.
It's been a while since 2021 but they remain my true favorite group in Kpop even today in spite of the uncertainty of their group activity.
@@fonvibestv , the reason here is rather that they never expected adult-dark content from GFriend girls. There was sadness and meloncholy, but not a devilish temptation. In fact, the music in Apple is even a little inferior to their usual sound, but this is more due to the context of the Song of the Sirens album. In fact, the song even had to sacrifice a chorus. And by the way, an interesting fact, find the distribution line of this song and see how the vocal time between the girls decomposed there. I assure you, you will never see anything like this anywhere else or with anyone. Gfriend has been inactive for 3 years and they are still in the top 4 female groups with the most music show wins (71 wins). Gfriend comes from such a small company but they were able to compete with other girl groups from big companies and also be able to enter the top 5 of the 3rd gen girl groups known as TREBELMAYEO (twice, red velvet, blackpink, mamamoo, yeojachingu/gfriend)
GFRIEND the best kpop girl group of the 3rd generation. PERIOD !

I should have mentioned that it was best to watch Apple first before Mago in their chronological order. This is because Eunha bit the forbidden apple and this led them all to become witches. The album is called Songs of the Sirens who were Greek temptresses singing beautiful songs to sailors to charm them into coming closer and wrecking their ships on the rocks. The Ooh Ooh Ahh sound when she bites the apple and the chorus Wee ahh Yayaya represents the Sirens voices and the members are dressed in classical Greek style goddess dresses. They turn black in the second half to signify that their witch transformation is complete burning the tree shows there is no turning back.
There is a complex lore to the GFriend discography and these are the end of the road for that story. Mago carries on that magical theme showing them as modern witches who no longer want to have regrets any more and are confident in their choices. You might like to watch the trailer teaser for the Apple video which gives some context to what you just watched.

In Apple they are more like Nymphs, who are only one step away from the Sirens.
Goddesses do not fall into temptation and do not exchange light for darkness.
A big reason why Hybe didn't make larger offers to retain GFriend was Covid. Korean record companies rarely make money on $1 music downloads. In order to recoup production costs including music production, choreography, costuming, hair/make up, video production, marketing, and distribution, they would need at least 100K downloads, and very few songs sell that many. Instead, most bands make money from live performances and merchandise.
But Covid cancelled concert tours in 2020, and when it became clear 2021 was going to be a repeat, Hybe decided they would rather move on with Le Sserafim in 2022 than pay GFriend to sit out another year.
On their end, GFriend felt neglected by Hybe, which I believe could have been settled on the Source Music side. But that's a longer story.

You are watching these mvs in reverse order because Apple came out before Mago. But yeah that's okay :D thanks for checking out Gfriend! Literally no one expected these bops to be their last two comebacks before hybe/soumu kicked them out. I really hope you can react to their old stuff too! Maybe it could be continued with their first 3 songs which are part of the Gfriends 'school trilogy', namely 'Glass bead', 'Me gustas tu', and 'Rough'. Btw Glass bead is their debut song, Me gustas tu is their most popular song, while Rough is their most successful song in terms of achievements ;)

Unfortunately Apple is unique in GFriend discography as they were very young when they started out and were only beginning to show mature concepts at the end which is when their contracts were terminated early. It is a mystery why they did this but it seems very likely it was because they had a new group Le Sserafim they wanted to debut and GFriend were in the way of that ambition.
Eunha was instructed in apple-picking by a pro in G-LOG #19.😁
But that feature is about the Chuseok harvest festival that arrives every mid-September.

Mago was never meant to be a final or disbandment song. We still do not know till today the specifics of why their contracts were terminated without notice.
Hope you will continue to check out more of their songs especially their earlier releases which was characterized as powerful innocence, orchestral pop with a touch of melancholy.

@@regfrenette9014 , perhaps you are confusing BP with BTS. There really were rumors that BTS wanted more money and GFriend was disbanded because of this. Especially considering the fact that Yuju made a cover on Dynamite, which surpassed the original from BTS by vocal.

Real maknae line is SinB and Umji (Sinb older on 77 days).
