Found this information on Donkeys eating tree bark… Donkeys eat tree bark primarily because they are natural browsers, meaning they seek out a variety of plant material including leaves, branches, and bark, often to supplement their diet when grass is scarce, and sometimes due to a lack of essential minerals in their diet, leading them to chew on the bark to get the nutrients they need; this behavior can also be a sign of boredom if they don't have enough stimulation
Lester, I remember when the donkeys were doing the same thing over at the sanctuary a few years back and you wrapped up the tree in duct tape lol. If I'm not mistaken, that tree is still standing and is still wrapped in duct tape!! I'm going to have to try to look next time Megan or LE are in that area of the pasture. Or maybe I'll ask them next time they go live. That was a funny memory that you reminded me of ☺️🤣🫏🌳
Wow the pond looks great 😃 thanks for anyone who has put info about the donkeys eating bark because I also wondered and was interested to know! ❤ Prayers for poor Ivy girl 🙏❣️
Lester, I want to thank you for working so hard and sharing your knowledge and animals with me/us. I always wanted to live on a farm and now I can see how it really is. Of course, I know there is a lot more off camera but still am grateful. Oh, and thank you for the tie in videos. I've been watching you for a few years and really enjoy how you tied in the video of the baby Ostriches, I'd seen it then, but it is a really nice, tie in. Well done. Diet: Donkeys enjoy eating tree bark, especially the fiber and flavor of pine trees. Boredom: Donkeys may chew on tree bark to relieve boredom. Providing branches: You can provide donkeys with branches or small logs to chew on. Replace the branches once the donkeys have stripped them
Offering your donkeys access to safe trees and shrubs is a great way of supplementing their diet with fibre as well as providing mental stimulation. Donkeys (like other equines) are mixed feeders, meaning that they will browse for tasty leaves and branches in trees, shrubs and hedgerows as well as graze. You may also find that giving your donkeys some fresh branches to chew on helps stop them chewing your fences and stables.
Lester. I watch all videos. I enjoy watching all the steps you are doing for today for the babies as well as the future. Thank you for always taking us along the adventure. Hugs from Halifax Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸
I Love what you have done with JL South and JL North. Just Beautiful!! You truly care about the babies and the land. Thank You for caring about us and taking the time to explain all this to us. Love to you and Jami. Have a blessed day.
I will forever watch every one of your lives/video's and all of Jami's. I may not catch all your lives, but I always watch them after. Keep on keeping on. BTW your second pond is looking great GOOD JOB.
The opening was the best one yet! Im dying laughing, I don’t think you mean to be funny. Lester that was fricken hilarious. I clicked right away to see your fight with Carl 😂😂 and who wins.
Great video Lester. I always watch full videos. Somehow, I feel the tree bark goes along with the Dan video a few days ago, licking the ground for a long time, not even coming in to be fed. Maybe try that Sulpher salt block that someone else mentioned. See if it could be minerals. Process of elimination to find out why they are doing this. I hate to see those trees eventually die. Bark acts as the immune system for trees.
The new pond looks great. When that rye grass starts growing its going to look beautiful. The donkeys need some kind of mineral or protein because their eating the bark off the trees. You, Jami and all the beautiful animals stay warm when it gets much colder. Better get your long john's out. I sure do when I'm in that cold.😊❤❤❤
The pond looks good, the animals are happy. I looked it up donkeys eat tree bark for minerals, boredom, or they like the taste, or just because they can. In your case I think its because they can or the taste. Hope that help. The properties are looking wonderful. You & Jami are doing an excellent❤😊.
The pond is looking awesome, what a wonderful design. Apparently.donkeys love pine trees and especially pine needles, chewing bark is a sign of not enough fibre in their diet, but they like the smell anyway.Hope you got to put the hay out without Carl attacking you. Thank you for sharing with us Lester.
The inner bark of trees contains nutrients like fiber and minerals that can supplement a donkey's diet if their regular grazing isn't providing enough.
Oh and LESTER I do like where your leaving another video to click on, very convenient especially for shows we may have missed or for new subscribers ❤❤
maybe put out vitamin lick kits for the donkeys, they need salt and minerals in the winter months. . I was wondering, are you all going to be letting the Alpaca in to this pasture also? just curious
Aww poor Carl, 😂😂 He's like screw you Dad, I will do what i want when I want 😂😂😂 I would adopt him in a heartbeat 💓 I would not be here without him, I truly love him 😂❤ and you Lester 😂❤
Lester, here is what I found. "Donkeys eat pine tree bark primarily because it provides them with additional fiber in their diet, and they often find the taste appealing; essentially, it's a way for them to supplement their grazing with a readily available source of forage, especially when other food options are scarce, similar to how they might browse on other tree branches and leaves."
Oh no 🤣🤣here I hit play & here’s LESTER & Carl playing “ thumb war” I LOVE IT 🤣🤣🤣👍👍back to the video, if I hadn’t put this now I may have forgotten, my memory sucks anymore 🤣🤣love y’all tho ❤
I’m going to say it now that I think when that over flow area is full from the horse pasture into the new pasture, I think that’s going to be where the pigs love to wallow in the water. Heck they will probably do it everywhere near the water. I can’t wait to see the pond when the grass is grown in. It’s going to look gorgeous. I loved that trickling through the rock. The property looks gorgeous, as usual!
The new pond area is going to be so beautiful when the grass comes up and the pond turns blue like the horse pasture pond. When does Carl stop being so mad. It seems like it has been a long time since he was in a better mood.
Donkeys eat tree bark for a variety of reasons, including to supplement their diet, for mental stimulation, and because it's a natural habit. Diet Fiber Donkeys are mixed feeders and eat leaves, branches, and other plant material. Tree bark can supplement their diet with fiber. Minerals and nutrients Donkeys may eat tree bark if they are deficient in certain minerals or nutrients
I love hearing the natural springs flowing out of the ground!❤ Did you know even though the water is coming out, that means it is so very fresh and very cold you can drink it! Bc back when I was child I found one of those, I was so thirsty, so I used my hand and cupped some water and drank it, and it was so perfect and cold!🙂😋❤
Lester, you should be able to get wrapping for your trees-up here in Boston some trees are protected by sort of a wooden fence tied with wire so it can wrap around them.,.
Good day Lester. Thumb wars you lose as Carl waits until you show your movement then he comes after you. He was bit red in the beak so hope he wasn't too mad. Getting him out of his pasture will be interesting. The pond looks great wonder if they happen to hit a bit of the spring underground and opened up a branch that you couldn't see from the top? Actually that will be good for the animals, fresh water, keep the bugs away, and they will love to wallow in the pond. The eating of the bark when Jami mentioned it in her video that Donkey Dan was licking the ground, I said may need some potassium or other mineral. If they are looking for forage go a bit down the back way towards the river with your side by side, an axe or machete and cut some of the branches from the brush see if that will help them. They haven't been to any forest for a while. Thanks for sharing. HAGN. Take care.
Donkeys chew on tree bark primarily because it can be a source of additional fiber in their diet, especially when forage is scarce, and can also be a form of natural foraging behavior, providing mental stimulation; however, boredom, lack of proper nutrition, or a deficiency in certain minerals can also contribute to this behavior.
New pond area actually has a lot more water in one week, sure hope the rye grass takes hold, it will be beautiful!! Curious what the donkeys are trying to find in the bark? Hope you get a answer! Carl has it out for you Lester, watch your back!!
Evening Lester. The new pond looks so good and to be full so quickly. Is just awesome the animals are going to love it. Hope someone can figure out why the donkeys are eating the bark of the trees. Loved seeing you ride Rita just awesome end Roman calling you both in the background I’m still here dad.have a great day take care lots of love and God bless you 🙏💕🤠
Here’s what I learned: 1) they could be lacking fiber; 2) they like the texture as they are foragers and want more than grasses and leaves; 3) some trees have medicinal properties that make them feel good 😊 ❤
I really don’t know what minerals the donkeys are lacking, but Danny licking dirt others eating bark. I know you and Jami can remedy their situation and you can save the trees and help the donkeys 😊
From what I understand donkeys (and horses) will eat the bark off of trees when they don’t have enough fiber and/or need salt. The need for salt also causes them to lick the ground and eat dirt.
💥💥💥 I mentioned it before but got no response, but looking at the culvert that goes under the fence to your neighbors property it’s open and it’s big your goats and dogs or predators can walk through it. Your ghost will get out and predators will get in. I would suggest again that you put some kind of a great or some fencing around that culvert. You would have to go and unclog it from time to time but it’s better than your goats walking through it and getting out of your yard.

Danny was licking the ground in another video
Could they get the minerals from Pine Mulch?
I agree, Minerals and salt. Need to find out what minerals are in there feed, and ask your vet.
Yellow sulfur salt block. That's what my horses needed when they were eating bark off our trees
That area of trickling water would be my new prayer place. It’s such a peaceful sound.
dont forget to show your support by liking and commenting, every little bit helps
I do it on every video.
You are creating the most beautiful property. You & Jami should be very proud of yourselves. ❤
The pond area is going to look really awesome after the ground settles and the rye grass grows. Great Job to the men your created the Pond.

Donkeys love eating pine bark and pine needles. Nothing to worry about! ❤
Your water features are beautiful Lester!
Jaws music should play when Carl approaches.
The opening was the best one yet! Im dying laughing, I don’t think you mean to be funny. Lester that was fricken hilarious. I clicked right away to see your fight with Carl 😂😂 and who wins.

Pine bark contains vitamin C, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, minerals, and bioactive molecules.
Such a beautiful place
The inner bark of trees contains nutrients like fiber and minerals that can supplement a donkey's diet if their regular grazing isn't providing enough.
Huh oh. That’s a big spanky stick lol lol lol gotta love that Carl 😂
You can also wrap the tree trunks with chicken wire, loosely, so the tree can still grow.
Oh and LESTER I do like where your leaving another video to click on, very convenient especially for shows we may have missed or for new subscribers ❤❤

@@christinawoods9306 I know 😁
Aww jeezzz Lester, I have to admit it was me.. I have been chewing up the trees.... hehe

Lester, try painting all the exposed areas with white paint. It should help the trees. We painted any area that was cut or exposed.
The pond project is really interesting to me.
You could put wire fence around them to protect the trees - just a thought as we do it over here
From what Ive learned donkey love eating bark in general it's good fiber apparently but it's also fun to chew on for them
Hello from Springfield, Illinois
Great video
New pond area actually has a lot more water in one week, sure hope the rye grass takes hold, it will be beautiful!! Curious what the donkeys are trying to find in the bark? Hope you get a answer! Carl has it out for you Lester, watch your back!!
The goats will do a good job on the trees I have several trees that have died from them eating the bark
Lester, if you want to protect the trees put wire around the tree to prevent them from eating the bark. Take care.
Evening Lester. The new pond looks so good and to be full so quickly. Is just awesome the animals are going to love it. Hope someone can figure out why the donkeys are eating the bark of the trees. Love you & Jami 💙❤💜
Maybe that's why Danny was licking on ground by the gate behind barns. Jami can point it out .
Here’s what I learned:
1) they could be lacking fiber;
2) they like the texture as they are foragers and want more than grasses and leaves;
3) some trees have medicinal properties that make them feel good 😊 ❤
Also said you can make a mixture of cayenne pepper and water to treet the trees as a deterrent
Good luck on the seeding the hillside. It does help
I was told by my pappa that his donkeys would eat tree bark for the Fibre in the bark which apparently they crave.. another fun fact I learned
I can't wait to see the pond in its full glory. By the summer, it will look so different out there. As always sending love and prayers ❤😊🇬🇧
Per Google, pine bark contains carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamin C & minerals
I really don’t know what minerals the donkeys are lacking, but Danny licking dirt others eating bark. I know you and Jami can remedy their situation and you can save the trees and help the donkeys 😊

FYI, There is still yard space and the fence on the other side of the culvert. It doesn't go directly into the neighbors yard.
