- In the last 100 years, humans have discovered no new mountains. As the last remaining first ascents of the world are claimed, there’s only one direction climbing can go: to the cities..
Drew Herder, Director, and Costar of Real Rock - An Urban Climbing Experience, explains his latest project, “It’s Front Range dirtbags pushing their boundaries with a counter-culture approach to climbing in Metropolitan areas.”
The Film has partnered with The Access Fund and their mission to protect climbing access and the integrity of America’s outdoor climbing areas - use promo code "REALROCK" to donate today.

Who else is far more interested in the down climb footage?
Austrian Alpinist Paul Preuss once said: "The degree of difficulties that a climber is able to handle with certainty on the descent and that he/she trusts the skills with clear coinscience must represent the uppermost limit of what he can do on the ascent.""
I'm glad I'm not the only idiot who's thought of doing this as more than a passing thing. Did graffiti over a decade ago and climbing up to roof tops was almost more fun than painting itself. Shit came full circle
I feel you! For me, putting a throw up on a roof or someplaces crazy is just to show off that i reached a place nobody could think of! Someone coming up to me asking how the fuck i did it is the best feeling
Yo writer made climber party over here I guess haha
@@noahlangdon2953 right here with yah. I do a bit of writing here and there but not like I used to. I actually started learning how to rappel in a dingy ass alley going into the basement of my apartment building so that I could spray a bridge, which led me into a climbing a round about way having that knowledge, but ive always loved it. We'd break into bandos and id be all over the pipes and walls. Or bridges in steel cities are the best.
This is like blurring the line between earnestness and satire lol
For real
The dramatic ass music and dialogue
Great effort put into the production with the hyperlapses and all. All in all a fun palm-sweaty watch!
1:25 dude, there's so many mountain faces that haven't been climbed. We're thousands of years from conquering them all, if ever.
Probably stereotype americans again who dont know about mountains outside their country
woosh
You ............................... the joke
I had the pleasure of buildering with some of the best back in the late 70's at UC Boulder and Stanford. It was the wild west back then with very few restrictions. Me thinks times have changed. Jim Collins once told me that the hardest climb he ever did was a traverse down in a stair well at Stanford. He actually had a needle perched on one of the ledges along the way that he would hold in his teeth and pop the blisters that were forming from the crimps. True story.
To anyone commenting about the danger and recklessness of buildering... The filmmakers put that warning at the beginning for a reason. They recognize your points, yet choose to do it anyway. Most of the risk is pretty damn personalized anyway... the risk of actually falling on someone or even breaking off bits of what you're climbing on is VERY low so long as you're being cautious.
caution is the key point, I have a friend that was climbing something VERY off limits. He either slipped or smth broke off, because he fell and broke his wrist, pelvis, and femur.
I climbed the walrus one drunken night. I looked down about 5 feet from the top to a crowd of about 12 heckling me. That top out was hard! I grew up in DTC and always wanted to climb that white thing by I-25. I might have to go do it now. This movie is 10/10 good job dudes
When people build something like at 9:04, don't they realise that it's screaming "please climb me!" ?
this is so under-appreciated
@@sethboehm it’s our choice to do what we are passionate about and enjoy.
I enjoy climbing, but the mindset of I'm dying anyway is not healthy
Being free of the fears of death is okay
Puss
I feel like 90+ percent of the time that people say that, it's not actually true. There is some sentiment to it that may be true, like how life is about doing things that you want to do and not letting fear paralyze you. But almost nobody is out there risking their lives on things that they aren't nearly certain that they will walk away from.
GREAT video guys, I hope you all have long lives.
"The splitters here are just some of the BEST the desert has to offer" LMAO
They played way too much Assassin‘s Creed
Cool to see Bam Margera started climbing
and lost 200 pounds because of it
Crazy stuff! This deserves more views
How did that whipper end?
I think he should’ve been fine and that was just added for effect since the bloke was saying no falls, you see him at the end on the loo
@@many.travels1880 I couldn't get over how much his piece was overcammed.
@@kjell1632 I think they strategically placed that there for added comedy. If you look at the two shots of the whipper, you can see he's falling on a piece right below it.
I discovered buildering recently die to the whole isolation thing going on. I am sticking to the low stuff without a belay. I honestly won’t climb higher stuff without a belay 😉
These dudes all have the same voice...
Done a bit of buildering at Fort Lewis myself. Never did the tower though. Props to ya.
Some of these down climbs ooof.
I definitely only builder when I got that walk off. Just like Yosemite domes!
When they chimney 😍
underrated
Didn't know it was called Buildering. Started climbing building because of the shut down. I have only climbed one 3 story but it was the under hangs of some stairs. No chance I was falling from those easy holds.
3:28 "boulder county justice center"
Welp, that's appropriate :D
Hey Drew Herder, you’re so crazy! I met you in Newzealand in Auckland (bus). Have a good time.
Sick Video, your risk managmant looks pretty good. Keep it up!!
Its not all illegal it depends on where you climb and what you do. Still a great video
I am training to climb the Willis (Sears) tower in Chicago!
Man didn't realize that buildering was a thing. I'm from mobile Alabama home of no rocks to be found, all I did was climb parking structures
I’ve just finished publishing a book on urban climbing
"Went and send it dude"!
I remember when Ezio learned that
Be careful guys
Tuc Town!!!
siemanko
Myślałeś o próbie wspinania w szczelinie jak chłopaki na filmie?
How do u get down tho
Lol Carlo Traversi marked as "Really Strong Guy"...he's a professional climber bro
How they go down
Song at 9:05?
Some laws are just to keep us from getting any RAD ideas. But then gives up bad ones.
Boulder Denver area? I think I recognize those Denver structures. Hadn't thought about climbing them before....
The most unintentional funny ever
So do they just down climb these or what?
Seriously wondering the same thing. They must. Down climbing is super sketchy, I’d be way more worried about that part. The buildings/parking garages I’m sure they just go into a rooftop door or take the stairs or something. But some of these structures there is no easy way down...
What's the song around 9:00? Not seeing any links or sources.
Wanna know it aswell
"6th Flatiron" LOL
class work! congratulations!
ah...buildering, takes me back to the 80s
modern building are not built as well as people think. I could see it on the concrete parking structures though.
it! sincerely! you did it great!
Hahahaha you guys are hilarious and amazing
i go to the Blocs all the time!!!
Lol i lived in denver for 3 years and know every damn spot lmfao
Alain Robert.
Drew what do you say, next feat: buildering a standing desk?
cedar is a such a person
So fn rad! But I'm sticking to real rock for now haha
5:15 hahaha we know what you mean haha
The type of people that are doing this in the video says it all really.
I get the spirit of it but it is reckless to climb above people that are unaware of you. You are not only risking your own life.
Why do I feel like all these guys are either called Keith or zeke
Probably something from your childhood
Super crack of denver looks so sick
Awesome doco
Alain Robert says hi
Go and be the first to ever climb the Wall of China.
Wouldn’t the descent be twice as dangerous?
Idk I feel like there is definitely much more undiscovered natural climbing terrains over man made buildings. Like there’s whole areas people never been before. I’m all for buildering but don’t act like it’s necessary to finding new climbs.
the university area of skate 3 the clock tower bro
This video if fucking rad!
Why dont they climb at night?
Huh? I'm not a professional? 🧐
I would of told the the University police . when im done. In response
Climb Florence clock tower
Real life assasins creed
Urban climbing with asecuration ...seems like another disciplin. Makes sense for difficult route.
This would have been an awesome april fools video..
Imagine thinking that this isn't satire
alex lol
Aslong as you dont leave chalkmarks, bolts or drytool up buildings i dont see a problem. If you do thought then maybe rethink your bullshit.
Hahahahaha 😂😂
It's selfish and even narcissistic. Someone will fall and die and their estate will sue the property owner, the architect who designed a climbable building, the city who issued a permit for a climbable building...
Ridiculous and super boring lines ? It’s just lol. Don’t call it Climbing ...
"Death is inevitable so why not builder"..... mmmm talk like that when you gonna have children..... dude... ;D
It'll come back around when you have teenagers.
