- Opening and closing of Part 1 of this story from the series' third season (and the first episode to remain extant in the archives). Written by PJ Hammond, better known for the later "Sapphire and Steel".
Who is harassing the stall-holders in the market, and why? And what has this got to do with the sinister spoons player?
Theme song by Andrew Bown.
Clip features Michael Standing, Michael Mackenzie, Roy Holder, Petra Markham, and many long-dead old ladies, and mini-skirted schoolgirls, who happened to be in the market when they were filming.
What a year 1972 was for a 9 year old kid like me growing up. Programmes like this and glam rock. I feel incredibly fortunate to have grown up in such a time.
I remembered that theme song as clearly as if I'd last heard it yesterday - I miss those days, life was a lot less complicated and the music was much better.
I cannot believe kids programs were as sophisticated as this and I actually remember watching this great TV Series. It is brilliant I wish you could post more ,please.
I know I watched this as a 9 year old. I know it made a big impression on me. I could have only seen each episode once. Crazy how 50 years later Tarot has taken up such a relevance in my life. No such thing as an accident, seeing it today at 22.22.
Wow. Never seen or heard of this before. Was filmed in Watney St, Shadwell where I was born (in the white hi-rise block) and grew up.
Wow! !What a blast from the past. I loved this T.V series . I think all of the people making kids programes in the 70'smust have been on Acid, still I enjoyed them all.
Thanks for posting this classic memory.
Never seen this...wonderful bit of Hauntology! Properly sinister!
Because of how rare this series is, somebody should post the episodes here, now that the youtube time restrictions have been lifted. More US viewers should know what this show was despite it was just one season/series left of any of it.
Thanks for the upload of this clip! I'd bought the DVD series on the strength of this clip, and spent the first two months of this year watching them and loving it! Great show, very enigmatic!
Think I'll do the same.
And Michael Mackenzie brilliant too.
RIP Roy Holder who played Chas Diamond the man taking photos.
YAY! Add more clips or pieced out parts of all the episodes of AOW on RUclips PLEASE!!! There had been nothing much here for 3yrs and I think this show is just as importaint in British Sci-fi/Fantasy as Dr Who and the Tomorrow people (which replaced Ace Of Wands)
The first three minutes of that have no dialogue whatsoever, and is a real slow-burner to boot.
They weren't afraid of losing their audience in THOSE days!!
Wow...vague memories of this show:). Thanks for putting it up. I think it's out on DVD now but some episodes were sadly wiped and thus are lost forever.
All of Series 1 & 2 are lost. They weren't wiped, it was a fire.
ruclips.net/p/PLVYUq7aYmz1PcUrFMs1D-SG51E5tUpQSc there is audio of some of the lost episodes that were found. I say some when it’s all of series 2
Spoon is Michael Standing who played 'Ginge' in the Tomorrow People. He was also the explosives 'expert' who blew up the ice cream van in The Italian Job, prompting the famous line from Michael Caine, "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off".
He iwas in the films Poor Cow and Up The Junction.
And in Gideon’s Way and The Champions.
Absolutely right. No doubt about that.
Memo 1701.
Nemo
Petra Markham also featured in 'Get Carter' the year before.
Her acting at the wake was excellent. It was a small part but played it brilliantly.
Petra Markham was an Exellent Actress, she also played a Superb role in an episode of Public Eye.
Time Slip and The Owl Service were also Wonderful Series on teatime slots but the Owl Service could have easily been watchable for adults also.
OMG. I remember this time so well. Andy Bown ?
Yep. The Status Quo ivory tinkler.
The B-side, called Lulli Rides Again is an instrumental and is at least as good.
They'll all be FIFTY years older now. . . oh hang on -- so am I !!
Ace of wands its hard to believe it was a children program its definitely better than children's programs they make today. I think hes appearance was stolen for Tom Baker for Doctor Who a few years later except for the silly very long scarf of course lol
I WISH someone would post some full eps of this amazing series!!!!!!!!
They did, but they got taken down. Also, only series 3 still exists.
@Equilibrio2008 Except that she replaced Judy Loe, who was hotter! Sadly, this first series was wiped and no episodes have been found.
Music by the guy from Status Quo.
Wow, such a high standard for children's TV - another one that could have been written for adults.
The only episode I remember was one called Joker, where there was a spooky tune being played, possibly from an ice cream van, that had an effect on the kids. Anyone else remember that one?
That story has been wiped I'm afraid. Thames only kept the third of the three series.
Never understood this series as a youngster...unfortunately I still haven't a clue!.
Drum is Stefan Kalipha who played Bond villain Hector Gonzalez in For Your Eyes Only.
The chap with the squeezebox looks as though he has just stepped off a U-boat.
The singer is actually Andrew BOWN, not brown. No idea of the lyrics, don't seem to have them printed anywhere. Loved this series.
Can you imagine what it could be now?
Called my son tarot
Filmed in Portobello Rd x
You know those horse at around six minutes, where the stock sound effects used for them riding or real they don’t sound like live recordings to me at the current time?
Does anyone know if the man in the titles ending credits is tarot played by Michael Mackenzie or someone else in the show?
At 5:58 those beautiful wide blonde eyes.
Turqoise
He's pretty!
looks like portobello to me ,you can see a quick shot of trellisick tower and the railway looks familiar. would be a great box set eh ?
It struck me how British tv shows always had an amateurish quality to them. They were always filmed outdoors on location.
Kasabian
Do you have the actual episodes?
Yes - they are all out on DVD.
@@sambda I can't play the DVDs. There's really only one episode I'd like to see (Peacock Pie).
most of the series was wiped
.
Does anyone know which market this was filmed at? Obviously London, but which part?
Watling Street, Shadwell- it was given a 70's makeover probably whilst this was being filmed- but maybe even creepier today
Watney St not Watling St@@matschofield7323
Thumbs up if u errebought hrrr byhsrry potter
Buffering is shit here !
