We had a senior shift supervisor (basically a mini manager who's paid hourly) from outside our company a while back. Her job was mostly to help out the manager and assistant managers with paperwork, opening the store, etc. She would also perform the duties of a regular supervisor, which here really just means keeping people from slacking off and having a magic password to make certain POS functions work. Well on week two, she decides that I, having worked there for 9 months, need instruction on how to put cheese on a pizza. She was the newest employee, so I basically told her to kindly fuck off and leave the training to people who aren't themselves trainees. Beyond that she was a total disaster. She constantly called in sick, when she did show up, it was frequently late. When she was working, she'd micromanage and yet have no clue what she was talking about. She'd stop what she's doing to parade her wife of 8 months through the lobby. One day, she proudly told everyone that she had dumped her _fiancée_ of 2 years to marry her current wife, and seemed to think that'd somehow win her some popularity points. She's gone now.
About 20 years ago I was a new single parent and i found out from a friend that anotger single parent with a newborn had nowhere to go. I offered her my 3rd bedroom and helped her out for a few months. Helped her get into a tech program that covered moving costs, day care and living expenses on the west coast. Forgot all about her until i moved back to Chicago and she found me by chance. Her daughter was now graduating from MIT with full honors 3 years early. She had started a business and was a millionaire who builds homes for homeless people. She asked me how she could pay me back for everything. I cried telling her that she has already done it so many times. Every home she builds is her paying it forward. Thats all i ever wanted. Pay it forward with random acts of kindness and senseless beauty.
People treat children in such a patronising way. I have been a child and it is ridiculous how everyone assumes you are either stupid or a liar. They generally have no reason to assume that either, they just do. When you are a child people don't judge you based off of your character, they just assume you are a stupid liar.
Yes, I remember when I was in primary school, I was a top student and the teachers usually asked me to do some stuff during classes, e.g. go to the library and print some stuff or move some books from a different class. They knew I'd be ok if I missed half a class and I had some fun so it was cool. But there were always some idiot teachers who didn't know me and who would see me doing something when I was supposed to be in a classroom and they'd instantly start yelling at me and take me straight to the headteacher! And the headteacher was like, wtf, this is OP, he's doing better than you at your job xdddd

Sadly this actually did happen to my grandfather. His sons and daughters were there along with a few grandkids but not me and they were supposed to take him out to a restaurant but due to a couple of my aunts this caused them to be late...like 3 hours late so he was hungry supposed to be there at like 6 or 7 but didn't until 9PM but hey 9 for 90 sounds kinda OK. I work at a hotel and last year two families stayed at my hotel at the height of the busy season. The two families realized that they were staying in the same hotel and one family paid for the other's entire stay because that family's daughter donated a kidney that saved the other family's daughter's life. It was the most heart warming thing that's happened in that hotel.
I walked into the pizza place I was GM of to see one of my managers getting threatened. I wasn't there to work and not dressed for work. He looked at me like I was nuts when I told him to get out and not come back. He did leave but called the police to tell them I threatened him. long storey short. they watched our tapes with sound and told him that he was indeed banned and that I was actually the boss. It's kind of fun to have that power. I have banned a total of three people from places I was GM of.
That owner in the last story was so nice, appreciating someone who helped him a while ago. Its nice to hear that there are some really cool people out there who appreciate the help others offer and OP didn't help him just to get the free drinks, he did it to be a good person.
There’s an object lesson in the “boss’s kid” story. If someone tells you something like that, don’t assume, don’t jump to conclusions, don’t act rashly. Always seek confirmation first just in case they’re telling the truth. He should have asked the parents or aunt first. It would have spared him his job and serious humiliation.
But entitled people who feel their position in life grants them superior knowledge and can't be disputed. Either get a chance to know your bosses because he could have prevented this by just maybe looking in the bosses office and seen pictures of these kids or maybe that what was. It probably assumed what ever pictures they had that the kids were those ages eternally. Obviously he probably didn't work there long before that day
It always amazes me when a low level employee gets caught being mean to an unknown upper level employee or owner and how the owners or ceo's etc often don't consider that their own hiring process is what allowed this to happen. Even if the jerk is fired or reprimanded for bad behavior they likely weren't the only one in the company that acted that way. After all they did get the job before that. It makes me wonder how hostile some of these work environments really are.
That last one is so wholesome and sweet. It reminds me of some quote or something about how small insignificant parts of your life are someone else's precious memory.
Thanks for including that last story! I love hearing the wholesome ones every now and then. It's unfortunately becoming rare that people are nice to others and help each other out for no reason at all, and without expecting something in return. Those stories always cheer me up a bit and warm my heart 😊
Every company, under the guise of giving green-eared graduates a step up; but in reality, they are saving money, because nobody knows their (or the job's) worth, so they only get a 1 or so above minimum wage.
Absolutely. My workplace has hired externally for the last 2 or 3 plant managers. I say 2 or 3, because only one introduced himself to third shift, and after he was fired, we've never actually seen the big boss. We could have had 10 come through in a year without knowing about it. From some of the documents and emails that come from upper levels, none of them reliably have Clue #1 of what happens day-to-day. None of them understand that third shift with ~8 people can't do things the same way as first shift with ~19 people, while also getting the same results. 64 labor hours per shift =/= 152 labor hours per shift, and yet that's a revolutionary concept to every upper manager that pokes around.
In the first three stories idiots got their ego deflated and in the third he lost his job. Good luck finding a new one. As to the last story it's nice to help people and be acknowledged for it.
Some businesses just don't get it. Your closing time is the time that you lock the door and put the "closed" sign up. Anyone who gets through that door beforehand gets full service. I tried ordering from a food place on Menulog within their opening hours, but the order was cancelled because they claimed to be closed. Menulog read them the riot act and gave me a voucher. I walked into a fish n chip shop within opening hours. The door was wide open, lights on, and a couple of employees behind the counter. "Oh no we're closed". They lost me as a customer forever.
Even if they were'nt closing at 9pm how did the el think they could do a cake like that, right now did she think her yelling would get it in made in minutes some people have no common sense
My friend and I once called and asked a Froyo place in advance if they could stay open a little late so we could get some. They thought it was sweet and agreed. We tried to be quick and thanked them profusely. My friend is in the navy and I don’t see her very often so moments like that are nice for us. Can’t understand how people could DEMAND anything though
Karen: "Get your manager here Now,I don't care who you are get them here now!" Boss: "Alright...Derek come here and tell her who owns this place" Derek: "you sir" Karen: "I will write a bad review!" Boss: "Go ahead we are closed and your being trouble in my store...begone Karen your banned"
I once made an exception when I work at my friend's coffee shoop. I almost closed the store and a guy come, I can see He just went home from work from his clothes, and the most important thing, He asked nicely.. So yeah, if you want to ask a favor at least start the conversation politely..
The people who go into restaurants within 10 mins of them closing are also the most likely to not leave a gratuity. If you are directly responsible for someone having to stay and work later than they would have you should absolutely compensate them!
Ok I feel like service restaurants need to work more like uk pubs with a last call and then closing a bit after that. (Ignoring the fact the kitchen commonly closes even earlier)
When it comes to the paintball story I would have had the people who were talking down to that guy and telling him he was doing stuff wrong fired, as they clearly are't nice people and don't know how to do their jobs.
So this guy is parachuted in, without a proper handover, and then proceeds to play stupid games with the staff who have been there full time. Asshole on a power trip. Piss poor management.
there is that strategy were you promote this people, because that was their first strike, and they will avoid the second strike, and if they do something stupid again they have already been warned, but it works better when the promotion gives more responsibility than benefits
@@roblewis226 i must agree. They could have made it clear to begin with that he has been here almost 8 years. That he is the one who trained the current manager. If they would have known that they would not have behaved like that. Instead they got a "This is my friend, he is your manager today, do as he says." Great Job failing simple communication skills.
It is better for everyone all around to use it as a teaching moment. Also, we don't know what may have been happening that the manager had to leave. While he could have called everyone together and tell them who he was and what his role was to be while he was gone, maybe the time restraints were such that it wasn't feasible. As @Dev For Fun pointed out, keeping them on would allow the company to use the incident as a previous warning to the employees that if they did something similar later on, they could be fired because they'd tried it before and could have lost their jobs then, but hadn't, but had been warned.
Dark Fluff - you do great videos. The OP in the story about the "homeless man" story was a security guard. He may have been the supervising security guard. It is still an excellent video. Great guys in the last story. I don't know if it's a universal courtesy to provide beer if you have people help you move. Here in Denmark you're expected to cover any beer the people who help you move wanna drink. The restaurant owner had no obligation in the last one though, good stuff.

Kinda glad we ended it off with a wholesome one. It’s good to see some wholesomeness mixed in with the crazy, especially with all the insanity in the world right now
just thought of something food places should do...decide a cut-off time for orders, and post that on signs and on the websites - then the employees can point that out when asses come in five minutes before the place closes demanding to be served
I've got the opposite of I do work here... I work at a nation wide auto parts store. We are required to wear black slacks and collered shirts. I live in a small Podunk town. On more than one occasion I have been at the local grocery store were the wear slacks and blue shirts with the store logo. I'm in a grey polo with the auto parts logo on it. Countless times I've been asked were something is and gotten scolded because I didn't know. But the best is once I was loading a cart full of food into my pickup truck when a lady said something about the carts in the parking lot. I looked at her and said ok. Then she asked what I was gunna do about it. I said I would proably tell someone that works here about it. Thinking she would figure it out.... Nope...Then this Karen goes and dose what they do and tells me I'm lazy. I look at here and tell her about how I just did a 12hr shift at the part store and pointed to my logo. She just walked away.
Communication solves a lot of problems. When the guy at the paintball park was getting flack from the other employees, the fault lies with poor communication from management about OPs tenure and knowledge.
You shut down the ovens 10 minutes before you closed? Sorry but stuff like that really annoys me. I always thought that the customer that comes in 5 minutes before we are closed should get the exact same treatment that any customer throughout the day gets. If you are open until 9, you are open until 9. I once had a manager that would tell people we were closed if it was 10 minutes before we closed. One time the phone rang within that 10 minutes and he told me to get the phone. I responded with, "Okay, but if I answer the phone, we're open." He answered the phone. And with another place, I worked the coworkers kept complaining we were open until midnight. They thought we should close at 11. I told them if the time was changed then people would complain that we should close at 10. They tried to tell me that wouldn't happen. Well, we did in fact have the time change to 11, and exactly like I said, they started complaining that we should close at 10. Now I admit I often worked with teenagers and college-age kids. And of course, the people who would spend 6 days a week asking to get off early, and the 7th complaining that their check was small.
I once paid for an hour’s parking just to visit one shop, got to the door at 5.50pm and they slammed it in my face. Didn’t feel bad for them when their company went bust a few months later.
I almost never worked a "service/retail" job, dealing with costumers etc, yet my gf had multiple jobs like those and one thing that always makes me scratch my head in "how is this acceptable?" is how they are expected to arrive before it opens and still have some work to do once it is closed and not get paid for that extra time. If I was paid up to 9, you bet your ass those ovens would be closed 10 minute before that. If the company cares so much about those poor customers arriving 10 min before it closes, they should care enough to pay for that time too.
@@randomrandom450 yep, if the day end at 10 the store must close 9:30 because you don't close a store in 1 second, so much for the time theft, in that mid time we would would tell any phone client that we were closed, because we were, just because there is employees inside doesn't mean the place is open, we must make sure the store will be ready for the clients that wait in front of the door in the morning
@@devforfun5618 Sometimes it was. They wanted a paycheck, but not to work. In the past when I would have a short shift I would trade with a coworker who wanted off early. For a short time, it was often one guy who was living out of his car. (Early 20's this time.) I made sure he knew what he was doing and that he was losing out on money that would help him get a place, but he still wanted off early. Since he was fully aware of what he was doing, I didn't argue and took his shift. He eventually got an apartment.
Did no one's parents tell them not to show up minutes before closing. I think waiting needs to be shown in schools as a cautionary tale to all. I bet they all found those subs to be a little extra moist. I like the good story at the end; it's a great format.
Getting to know so many stories about entitled people makes me imagine all kinds of stuff for the business owners' sakes. For example, showing a g*n, kn*fe or axe in an emergency box behind the counter, or at least speed dialing the authority to threateningly rude customers, or hiring an intimidating giant as your assistant or worker that will protect you & your business when the customers try anything funny. Or, put up a clear warning sign that won't tolerate entitlement or complaining/tantrum for free service or stuff. I like the giant chef story the most - he unthreateningly watched the rowdy family until they finished their dining quietly. Before he appeared, they kept harassing the waitress, complaining about the food or stuff & were being so loud & obnoxious, clearly trying to get out without paying. Moral of the story - hire giant people with big muscles, & decorate your business with some intimidating clues that tolerate no Karens & Richards.
OP in the paintball place definitely handled it much better than me when someone pulled that crap with me. I moved to a new store first person who talked down to me trying to tell me how to do my job after I was working in the company for four years already. I just slapped in the back of the head in an area of the store with no cameras and said shut up I'm already better than you. Management asks me about it later and I have no clue what they're on about 😅 Side note is that I was brought in because the store was under performing
In my country, the customer laws forbid stores from refusing business unless there's a very solid reason to do so (if the customer poses any danger to the employees or other customers, for example).
What country is that? In Britain a store can refuse to serve you if it would mean they go past the closing time, which is stated on the door. It's not exactly illegal to keep serving unless it's a licenced premises serving alcohol, but it's frowned upon. Most food places refuse new customers up to half an hour before closing.
I have posted previously about about someone not listening when told we were closed. It happened again this past saturday. There were 2 cars in line. One arrived just before 2 am so we took the order. The other arrived a little after 2 and were disappointed we were closed but still polite. So, my manager asked them if they would like a free drink for their troubles, which they happily accepted. Shortly after they pulled forward another car pulled up to the speaker. They were told "i'm sorry but we closed at 2 am." They asked about the cars ahead of them and, to keep things simple, were told they had ordered before 2 am. They got mad and drove off honking at us. I can see being upset if you missed closing time by a few minutes. There is no need to be a jerk about it though. I'm sure when it is there quitting time they want to go home too and not be kept at work longer. continuing to take orders after closing time because there are still cars in line is like holding a door for someone in a high traffic area. You can end up being an unpaid doorman for a very long time. Or, in this case, we could have ended up closing MUCH, MUCH later.
Very off-topic the one that said you’re not the boss kid made me laugh considering my parents own a restaurant thank God that never happened because that would be very awkward because my parents work usually with workers and most of the workers know I’m the bosses kid so that would be very awkward if a new guy just dragged me out of the restaurant say hey get out
I show up to stores sometimes 5 minutes before they close only to walk out as soon as I made the employees nervous enough. No talking or responding. Just in then out after I make my presence known and tell anyone else trying to come in "Nah they are closed bro"

Ah, many years back I worked in a super market as a student. I stopped working there when I went off to university and the boss told me, I'm welcome back whenever since I did good work and they were happy with me. After that, while looking for regular work, I thought I could bridge the gap and asked my old boss if his offer still stood. He said yes and I started back immediately. Since a few years had passed most employees there had changed. Especially with the students helping out, there was a big turnover. They treated me mostly nicely, but it was sure funny when they needed help with the more complex tasks and I, as the new guy, could help them immediately. Their faces were priceless.
That first story just had me thinking. If you needed a cake for your dad's 90th birthday, which you knew well in advance was coming, *why on earth would you wait until the last possible moment to get a custom cake done?*
Most fast food places I worked with would close the lobby an hour before we closed the drive thru. That way in case some dillweeds decided to show up in groups we had time to serve them if they came in a few minutes before the lobby actually closed.

Fantastic story!
Even my inner cynic was touched by this.
Thank you so much, ma'am.
Beautiful. However, I expect the family to be entitled family story. lol.
I loved reading this omg ❤️

I feel bad for all the people who have been a child in the past.

So your grandfather is celebrating his 90th birthday at 9pm? Ok
More like: your grandfathers birthday is today, but apparently not important enough to order a cake on time?!
yeah, i feel like most people at that age are asleep by 9pm
Pretty sure its illegal for security cameras to record sound.
SongBird yeah I think he just left out the part where the cops arrested them for it after listening to the tapes

That owner in the last story was so nice, appreciating someone who helped him a while ago. Its nice to hear that there are some really cool people out there who appreciate the help others offer and OP didn't help him just to get the free drinks, he did it to be a good person.
My favorite part is definitely when the paintball guy asked the assistant manager "who trained you"
There’s an object lesson in the “boss’s kid” story.
Obviously he probably didn't work there long before that day
@@hardcorenativextreme - Like the saying goes, assumption is the mother of all f*ck-ups.
Buddy, replace the entire staff . You have the biggest heart ever. You deserve much better employees. Don’t think twice about it !!!
First 3 stories: I DO work here 😤!!
Last story: he DOES work here 🥺🥰
3rd story- what is it with some new employees and their such a big need for a power trip that they don't use common sense?!
That last one is so wholesome and sweet. It reminds me of some quote or something about how small insignificant parts of your life are someone else's precious memory.
that last story was a nice change......... thanks for including it.
Thanks for including that last story! I love hearing the wholesome ones every now and then. It's unfortunately becoming rare that people are nice to others and help each other out for no reason at all, and without expecting something in return. Those stories always cheer me up a bit and warm my heart 😊
Working 8 years at a place but they'll hire outside the company for managers, lul what fuckery is that?
Every company, under the guise of giving green-eared graduates a step up; but in reality, they are saving money, because nobody knows their (or the job's) worth, so they only get a 1 or so above minimum wage.
Bullsh*t that’s what

In the UK we expect food places. To stop preparing food before closing time. Then everyone out of the door at closing time.

It's nice to have an upbeat story like the restaurant owner paying for man's dinner.
Karen: "Get your manager here Now,I don't care who you are get them here now!"

Derek: "you sir"
Karen: "I will write a bad review!"

Awww! That last story - sometimes it's just so nice to have a story like this, just to show it's not all doom and gloom!
The people who go into restaurants within 10 mins of them closing are also the most likely to not leave a gratuity. If you are directly responsible for someone having to stay and work later than they would have you should absolutely compensate them!

When it comes to the paintball story I would have had the people who were talking down to that guy and telling him he was doing stuff wrong fired, as they clearly are't nice people and don't know how to do their jobs.
It's not that easy to replace a worker. For any business that plans to exist in 5 years, firing someone is something of a last resort.
Instead they got a "This is my friend, he is your manager today, do as he says."
Great Job failing simple communication skills.
It is better for everyone all around to use it as a teaching moment. Also, we don't know what may have been happening that the manager had to leave. While he could have called everyone together and tell them who he was and what his role was to be while he was gone, maybe the time restraints were such that it wasn't feasible. As @Dev For Fun pointed out, keeping them on would allow the company to use the incident as a previous warning to the employees that if they did something similar later on, they could be fired because they'd tried it before and could have lost their jobs then, but hadn't, but had been warned.

just thought of something food places should do...decide a cut-off time for orders, and post that on signs and on the websites - then the employees can point that out when asses come in five minutes before the place closes demanding to be served
The owner is going to get you fired!
Uhh mam I don’t think I can fire my self
If the company cares so much about those poor customers arriving 10 min before it closes, they should care enough to pay for that time too.
i hope it wasn't the teenagers working till 11
" I want to talk to your manager. "
" But I AM the manager. "
As a former service industry employee I never assume anything. I try to give others best experience as a customer.
Management asks me about it later and I have no clue what they're on about 😅
Side note is that I was brought in because the store was under performing
That last one is a good example of good karma coming back to good people.
This is my first time listening to you! Instantly subbed~! I hope you’re doing great, and I think you read wonderfully, tone and cadence 10/10!
Surprisingly I’ve heard very little of those kinds of instances in capitalist money-loving America. So try again.
Here in America, no shoes, no shirt, no service.
I just started watching you today, and let me tell you, I immediately started to love the stories you read
Good stories. Glad things worked out for everyone.
That last story was great, showing people helping people.
The unpaid doorman thing, I literally had experienced it lol. I will never do that again if I see a lot of people coming in as I'm opening a door.
If you're five minutes before close, you are on time.
Well if a customer gets there before closing time you can't really be mad about serving them.
This is why i will never ever work in retail or costumer service again
Customers like her, well their shit don't stink either, we can all do without their custom. So glad you put her in her place.
I quite like that last story, I'm glad it's there to lift the mood up.
When your working in same Company for over 20yrs and one day out of blue some young person walks up and tells you they want you to do something...If that young person is you and your a new Boss..Identify who you are! So you don't get your feelings hurt when we tell you to F-off.
