I did the same thing!!! Granted, I haven't taken any specialisation yet, but I did took a very tanky build, maxed out my sword and shield and vanguard stats that have constitution on it. I was only level 12, and Varric, Cassandra, and Blackwall have fallen around me. The dragon still had 75 percent of its health. I took him on alone and after 45 minutes of fighting, I essentially triumphed without a scratch. I was level 12 then. What a glorious battle it was.
6 years and still coming back to this game. gotta love it. I think a two handed weapon version of this build works well also, so long as you take block and slash with flawless defense. mighty blow and pommel strike are very nice too.
I literally solo'd corypheus and his pet dragon on nightmare with a champion. SOLO. it took hours, figured since he was a 'champion', he might as well duel the big baddie one on one for head canon's sake.

Some people have pointed out the lack of Shield Wall as a negative. Shield Wall is a great skill, but unnecessary except for a couple situations, including dragon fights. I'm not saying don't take it. In fact it's a great skill to take and could replace something like Grappling Chain for such fights.

KineticGTR Awesome tank ^_^/ , btw was this video recorded on nightmare difficulty? if so.... does higher difficulty yield better or worse loot from chests and bosses?
I know this is a pretty old video, but I still play the game and I am doing a playthrough as a warrior. I wanted to point out that there is no Unbowed anymore. They replaced it with a skill called Livid. Which is just a damage reduction skill and to me isn't that great, the upgrade for it gives guard but not nearly as much as the Unbowed upgrade. Sorry if this has been said before, just thought I should let you know since your videos are amazing.
I mean, livid with the upgrade Still Standing gives you 20% guard per enemy, so in theory I think it's a good upgrade. The cooldown for livid is 27.2 seconds which is slightly lower than Unbowed. It's definitely not better, but I would grab Livid and its upgrade Still Standing as the alternative.
TBH, Livid is essentially a modified version of Unbowed. And, as it was stated before, Livid has the same upgrade that Unbowed originally had, which is Still Standing. Going with that for Livid, if you have even 3 enemies around you, you pop Livid, you almost get a full gauge of guard. And if you have the +25% guard increase, popping something like war cry, challenge, or Charging Bull, and you've got enough guard to get you through any sticky situation.
line in the stand is actually a great, underrated skill. it doesn't just block choke points it blocks attacks too. its great for dragon fights and instances where you have no cover.
if you have trespasser, id recommend going the other way with battlemaster and getting horn of valor since it has an upgrade that grants guard to allies for every hit they inflict. very helpful. you should still pick up the right-hand passives though

Loving these warrior videos of yours, and I find it interesting that you didn't use any Sword n Shield tree in your spec. Good to see people thinking outside of the box a bit. Keep up the fantastic work, man. Have a high five *high five*
I gotta say, I am LOVING this build so far. Haven't even unlocked specializations yet and only lv8, so all I got is just the vanguard abilities and a few battlemaster stuff, but even still with just that Blackwall almost always has full guard

Awesome build hope you do stuff for dragon age 4 when it comes out and cant choose between this and reaver cause reaver looks and probably feels awesome but I feel like you may as well just play a rogue at that point.
Champion build is the easiest. The character basically cant die and if you use To the death, it will hit hard as hell. Not much effort or thinking involved. Building a boss killer solo mage however... that is art. :)
@@mythicmars4848 Well, you can check out my mages... the videos are on my channel. They can solo nightmare(and the hardest dragons under a minute) and I never got bored with them. The build is included. Not just KE but Necro and Rift too. But who knows maybe you would be bored, I know I had a lot of fun with them :)
I would say a great usage of 'To the Death' is when coupled with a mage or two, having them disable the enemy after a few seconds To the Death has been active, and then combo nuke them as the chain disables wear off.
Rift mage is one of the pure range mages specialization that you can play with. If you do that vid on rift, use blizzard with firestorm and rift spell. That signature move is really fun and you can always use it in synergy with the other characters.
This build is incredible, I managed to 1v1 the dragon in crest wood with it, I didn't even lose any health and my guard was at 50% or more the entire fight. Also, I only have two points in the champion tree.
Butt secks range... Best analogy ever. Love the build guide, though I'm rocking a two hander tank so I try to balance between damage intake/output. Should of taken Reaver with the two hand weapons, but I just had to be a champion inquisitor, sounds better then a blood thirsty murderer who also happens to lead an army lol. Guide was very in depth, keep up the good work.
I think it's really cool how devotednyou are to Dragon Age Inquisition Kinetic, because it is a very good game and it is nice to that someone else thinks so too.
I noticed that you didn't grab the ( in my opinion ) essential upgrade for war cry, which gives a 200% armor bonus when cry is used. Also, i agree with those who mentioned shield wall as being something you should add.
That armor bonus only lasts as long as they're taunted which is only -4 seconds- (correction, 10). With as much guard as we are generating, you don't need it or shield wall for 90+% of the content.
If you read it you'll see that it actually last for 10 seconds (which ofcource isn't too long either ), which in my opinion is pretty good for all the times you need to use war cry in a fight and shield wall is good for keeping up your guard longer by quickly blocking an attack, not to mention hits taken by shield wall give you guard equal tot he damage you blocked. ( not to be rude or anything, through re-reading this i realize my tone might sound a little rude, but just trying to give my opinion for the sake of discussion )
Neville Gaynor No, you're fine. And I did misread that also. The duration is longer than I thought. But as I am discussing with another person, the Champion spec builds so much guard from so many other abilities, in most fights, he doesn't even run out of it. So having an additional armor bonus doesn't seem necessary. Still, for things like boss and dragon fights, upgrades like that, and certainly Shield Wall, come in handy.
i found the grappling hook with the kick stun upgrade ability useful! how they grapple an enemy to them then kick them staggered, i love it hah. thanks for this video. i’m doing a sword/shield build for the first time as my inquisitor, on hard too haha
I quite like snagging Shield Wall and Shield Bash before heavy investment in Battlemaster (ie, the War Horn and it's upgrade.) some extra Guard alongside a block is nice, and Shield Bash is always a good time. plus, I'm quite fond of Bear Mauls the Wolves (which is one of the two options for bridging to Bash). little Con bonus, but more importantly, removing flanking damage from the Uber tank.
The sword & shield champion build is basically the unkillable build, the nice thing about it is that it's operational from the start to the end, no need of respec and less dependence on gear. You're right about shield wall, not necessary but honestly, nothing better than blocking a shield charge with your own shield. This kind of build also works well on Blackwall, that's actually how I noticed how invulnerable this build can make you: Blackwall was the last man standing in a tough dragon fight, he had full guard/health, never drank a single potion!and finished off the dragon alone :o
Whoa, definitely an interesting build. Like a few have pointed out, it's a little weird - although interesting - to see stray away from the sword and shield ability tree. I only say that, because S&S class isn't powerful in terms of physical strikes with a weapon - even with a weapon that outputs 300 DPS or more. So I usually revert to Shield Bash. But, I'll take your build for a spin and see how I like it :) And as you said, I can just add shield bash as an ability if it really if is wanted to. Regardless, thanks for the video! Looking forward to the Rift Mage build!
Your build is god tier sir, if I may, if you farm the ore in that area you can get two types of fade touched silverite i think where the three dragons are, just save in the area, farm, then reload, you're looking for the guard on hit .
English is a worryingly random language, but Veil is pronounced like Vale or Pale/Pail, not Veal. Why, pedant alone knows, but ie/ei especially is suspect. Take that info with a very large grain of salt please. This entire guide series is amazingly well done, thank you for putting these together.
Thanks for the video. This build works with 2-handed warrior also. I was having a hard time because I was taking too much damage and going down. I also like that It's really effective with only a few abilities so you dont get your fingers twisted trying to spam a bunch of stuff at once.
I play as a two-handed champion, and it works great as a tank, plus deals a ton of damage, though it's much better against bosses than random guys (which is why I use Blackwall for them) With the Champion abilities, Vanguard passives, and Two-Handed, I landed a critical on the final high dragon for 10,550 on Normal.
Thats amazing build:D my whole party except blackwell died in fight against highland ravager when it had half of his health left. Managed to kill it alone with blackwell with this build:)! (And dragon was couple of levels higher than us)
my first playtrough I decided for two handed templar build, only to realize later that templar was the lamest of the warrior skill trees. Sure, it can make short use of demons and mages, but so does knight enchanter make short use of everything and it doesnt make it less boring. I'd rather be a super tank or a blood manipulating warrior than making demon fights quickier.
Blackwall & Cassandra good tankers although both has their upsides & downsides . BW great at holding choke-point & using environmental spaces to his advantage ,forming a defensive line to defend your Mage/rogue . His resilience of champ makes him the ultimate tank . Though,he can"t do much in open spaces during Rift battles . Cassie Templar helps immeasurably & she assist the party greatly vs demons . I love both their specs
According to your description we can put together a powerful assassin that has everything we need to dominate on the battlefield Thats awesome but it's a tank build :P
It's a REALLY solid build. It's a nice 15 point build early on in the game too between Vanguard and Battlemaster that let's you get away with A LOT. Cutting words has moved, but it's still in the 15 point range. My mage is an arcane enchanter and can pretty much solo everything on nightmare at a relatively low level, but I wanted a tank build for Blackwall since Cassandra is a templar build and her damage is SIIIIICK. Didn't want to mess with that. I filled out Vanguard and Battlemaster first and that's all I had. He's a beast.
@@KineticGTR Yeah. She's my rift killer now that she's got her Templar spec. I did the western approach first for all of here epic gear. Sword, shield, masterwork armor. It's fun to watch. Thanks. You too
is this build still viable video is over a year old now, my champion getting pwned by mage/demons, they tearing down my guard instantly in some cases lol
+Sean Berkinstoks Yes. There have been some updates and changes, but nothing ground breaking that it shakes the whole game and how classes are best built imo. All the guides I've made are still viable for both your player character, and NPC (with some minor tweaks) ;)
Nice! And thanks for responding to a comment from a video that's a year old! Something usually only done nowadays by really tiny RUclipsrs. if they even answer at all. :D
im glad im not the only one that refers to the dragon on the storm coast as the shock dragon lol, even though there is another dragon that uses lightning. i forget the name of the place, but it's the one that has the dalish camp. anyway the dragon you can fight there also uses lightning, and that particular dragon is actually listed higher than the one that's on the storm cost. but i found that dragon to be pretty easy, because most of the lightning he threw at my party didn't kill us. but the one on the storm coast, no matter how much lightning protection i had my party members had on, the dragon was still able to annihilate my party at times. what's funny to me is there's so many different strategies out there on who they say is the easiest dragon and the hardest, when i looked up an actual professional strategy they list the shock dragon as one of the hardest, that definitely seems more accurate to me, because next to the high dragon in the western approach, he and the pit dragon i call it. you know which dragon im talking about right, there's two other dragons before that, but there in those big towers you gotta climb to get to them. but the pit dragon you don't have to climb, there's just a big gap. anyway that's the dragon im talking about i found to be the most difficult, along with the shock dragon and the high dragons in the western approach.
Why did you not pick up anything from the weapon & shield tree? I can understand not picking up the offensive skills but no shield wall? Just a quick press of a button and you can stagger mobs and gain guard. Shield wall is amazing, every WnS tank should use it. Then the passives of the tree are amazing. Sure warrior's resolve is a tad underwhelming but no turn the blade? That is a flat 20% damage reduction BEFORE armor it calculated. Personally I feel that unbowed is unnecessary with shield wall & walking fortress since those abilities alone will give you all the guard you need. Counterstrike is not that good on single player since it is a focus skill & there are better focus skills out there. If this was multiplayer then this would be a different story. I also felt that the horn was a complete waste as well but this is my opinion.
The only time I found Shield Wall necessary, is against dragons. I mentioned it in my video description. It's a great skill and is only one point away from being available for any tank build. I think when you have this much guard generating, it's just as powerful, if not more, than passives like Turn the Blade. Again, there is no such thing as too much guard in many fights. Unbowed is however, a good skill to swap out, for maybe Shield Wall or Shield Bash if need be.
KineticGTR I'll admit I'm still a strong advocate of those passives they're just too good to pass up. When I get the chance I'll watch the video again and listen more closely. When I first read the description I had to fight the urge not to automatically say "Fuck this build! This shit is dumb!" I knew you had your reasons and if you are having success without turn the blade (.........*bangs head against the wall) then more power to you. Even though I disagree with the effectiveness of this build I'm just happy to see a Champion guide on RUclips. This is pretty much the only specialization that I feel knowledgeable on. As for what you should do after your Rift Mage video my vote goes to Artificer. Those passives in that tree are amazing. Also one word of advice It's good the be Champion!
ZeriocTheTank "I knew you had your reasons and if you are having success without turn the blade then more power to you." I always have my reasons. Often people don't recognize that and see it as my ignorance. lol It's also a matter to playstyle. I wanted to make something that felt good in 90% of the fights I've experienced up to this point. With mobility, control, and tons of guard. No doubt though, for dragon fights or similar battles, this build would need some tweaking and I'd definitely pick up some skills from Sword and Shield.
My Champion had enough Guard skills and Guard Boost equipment that she could taunt one enemy and get full Guard meter, then get even more for every other enemy she taunted She soloed the Dragon in the Western Approach without ever losing health. Granted it took me about 30 minutes because not much DPS, but just Taunt once and she was untouchable I don't get how people don't like playing Tank, the shenanigans are fucking amazing
You can add gain 5 guard to everything too… armor , shield, sword, i can make my mage rogue and warrior all tanks you cant kill any of them… i only find a weak spot if i use a bow and arrow rogue… if i use a dagger rogue i can make that style a tank also… meaning i can beat a dragon solo from any character alone.. except a bow and arrow rogue..
Hey man, thanks for sharing your build as Im just starting to play this gem of a game. I know its been years since this was uploaded, I just wanna ask if PBS is better than shield bash in this build since it lets you recover from a stunned/knock down status to make sure none of the enemies gets close to a party member? And do the A.I use PBS even if they are affected by those status aswell?
LMFAO buttsex range hahahaaha i'm playing on nightmare and i'm thinking of getting 3 tanks(my character, Cassandra and blackwall when i get him) with 1 mage/archer make 1 tank defend the archer/mage and deal steady damage what do you think?
i am playing nightmare with 1 tank if i dont get into the high lvl areas +3 of my own i win easily the fights e second offtank maybe brings me some more sustain for hordes of enemys..
I dont seem to notice any guard build up from Unbowed. I dont know, i keep using it but it doesnt seem to be working. Even upgraded it and I didnt see any difference. Could I swap it out and go for Turn the Bolt instead?
I used to hate what Bioware did with the combat, but now I see that if abilities are used property, the amount of healing items one can have should be more than enough to get you through fights.
Thanks for the great video, just started my warrior and I just love the game! :) Also playing on Xbox One. Will def coming back to this vid once I get higher. Would it be possible to add your GT?
I been following your iron bull build and it was spectacular... but how you apply this build to the IA. Which abilities should I block or left as preferred????
Are there any changes you would make to this build with the new toggle-able upgrades. Just wondering because I made a new character (Finally make one that looks like fenris \o/) and i was going to go champion sword and shield.
May I ask what tactics settings are you using in this particular build? I'm playing as mage but still wanna use this build with Blackwall and don't really want to control him 100% of the time
So, i've been watching your vids and tried to use your tank build, yet I still have the same problem, my tank dies almost instant, guard gets nuked and health drops almost at the same time, barrier just prolongs the whole process. I don't know why but Blackwall, almost insta-dies in every fight (nightmare/ with friendly fire), I don't know why, but the enemie almost always hit's for 300-1k, any suggestions?
Is there a Cassandra tank build? I've been looking and cannot seem to find one. I'm sure Blackwall is better, but I would prefer to keep using Cassandra and her Templar abilities. Any link would be appreciated!
I used to have Charging Bull on my tank, but after seeing my tanks run through the enemy lines, and then out of the fight, one too many times, I dropped it for lunge and slash.
I've taken your build and killed the shock Dragon alone without any followers! This build is op and I love it!
I never tire of reading comments like these even after all this time. Thanks for the feedback! :D
How did you keep the others from following your controlled character?

Guide was very in depth, keep up the good work.
nicely done .. great job
I think it's really cool how devotednyou are to Dragon Age Inquisition Kinetic, because it is a very good game and it is nice to that someone else thinks so too.
you also got a new subscriber :D
+KineticGTR are this builds viable for companions if I'm aiming for night enchanter but will this champion build be great for Blackwall?
@@NevilleG12315:35
Holy cow! I KNEW Blackwall could be a friggn badass but WOW. He's sorta unbeatable
i found the grappling hook with the kick stun upgrade ability useful! how they grapple an enemy to them then kick them staggered, i love it hah. thanks for this video. i’m doing a sword/shield build for the first time as my inquisitor, on hard too haha
your guides are very good. you. Helped me a lot :) thank you .!
Amazing! Great job!
"you dont have to be within butt-sex range to use this skill effectively" earned my Like
subscribed. I like the builds it will save me time when I get the game.
But, I'll take your build for a spin and see how I like it :)
And as you said, I can just add shield bash as an ability if it really if is wanted to.
Regardless, thanks for the video!
Looking forward to the Rift Mage build!
First time seeing your video and you just made me wanna buy the game and test this build.
Perhaps I missed this, but you didn't talk about what kind of stats to go for on your armor/weapons to help build the tank.
Thats amazing build:D my whole party except blackwell died in fight against highland ravager when it had half of his health left. Managed to kill it alone with blackwell with this build:)! (And dragon was couple of levels higher than us)
Love the vids. Tempest dual dagger rouge is really fun.
my first playtrough I decided for two handed templar build, only to realize later that templar was the lamest of the warrior skill trees.
Nice video. I'm on my 2nd playthrough of the game. I hope they come out with a new one. I know they have one in early development stages. We shall see
EVERYONE USE THIS BUILD HE IS TELLING YOU ABOUT!!! I used his build and only died once. I barely lose guard using this build.
According to your description we can put together a powerful assassin that has everything we need to dominate on the battlefield
Thats awesome but it's a tank build :P
It's a REALLY solid build. It's a nice 15 point build early on in the game too between Vanguard and Battlemaster that let's you get away with A LOT. Cutting words has moved, but it's still in the 15 point range.
My mage is an arcane enchanter and can pretty much solo everything on nightmare at a relatively low level, but I wanted a tank build for Blackwall since Cassandra is a templar build and her damage is SIIIIICK. Didn't want to mess with that.
I filled out Vanguard and Battlemaster first and that's all I had. He's a beast.
Cassandra's damage is so good it spoils the game lol That's why I didn't recommend the strongest build for her xD Have fun Dex!
Unbowed has been switched out to a skill called 'Livid.' Does that change your build or?
I used this build on blackwall, and livid doesn't seem to hurt the build at all
I shout "I'm fuckin invincible!" during Boss Fights when I use this build.
Who an I kidding, I do it all the time lmao
I'm very proud of you friend
This vid is a sub worth ;)
nice work bro
Blackwall is my back bone for dragon fights.
and your heart shall burn siding with the mages O_O brutal fight if you arent overleveled
thats awesome man. ima change my black wall to that
Wow I am going to use this to rebuild my Blackwall.
Don' t forget about masterworks on crafting... If you decide to use it, you get 3-5 guard every time you damage enemies...
Also one word of advice
It's good the be Champion!
My Champion had enough Guard skills and Guard Boost equipment that she could taunt one enemy and get full Guard meter, then get even more for every other enemy she taunted
She soloed the Dragon in the Western Approach without ever losing health. Granted it took me about 30 minutes because not much DPS, but just Taunt once and she was untouchable
I don't get how people don't like playing Tank, the shenanigans are fucking amazing
omg thank you! this build works in 2020 and my blackwall is literally unkillable lmao
Good video man.
I use Blackwall with champion and battlemaster and he does not die.
LMFAO buttsex range hahahaaha
i'm playing on nightmare and i'm thinking of getting 3 tanks(my character, Cassandra and blackwall when i get him) with 1 mage/archer make 1 tank defend the archer/mage and deal steady damage what do you think?
i am playing nightmare with 1 tank if i dont get into the high lvl areas +3 of my own i win easily the fights e second offtank maybe brings me some more sustain for hordes of enemys..
Great Guides! Which skills should I activate/deactivate for A.I tanking? And preferred?
I dont seem to notice any guard build up from Unbowed. I dont know, i keep using it but it doesnt seem to be working. Even upgraded it and I didnt see any difference. Could I swap it out and go for Turn the Bolt instead?
Unbowed has been changed to livid just to let you know bro good vid
I used to hate what Bioware did with the combat, but now I see that if abilities are used property, the amount of healing items one can have should be more than enough to get you through fights.
Thanks for the great video, just started my warrior and I just love the game! :) Also playing on Xbox One. Will def coming back to this vid once I get higher. Would it be possible to add your GT?
Hi, I'm wondering where did you get that greatsword (?) for your main character ? Is it a recipe or item drop ?
I been following your iron bull build and it was spectacular... but how you apply this build to the IA. Which abilities should I block or left as preferred????
I'm thinking about making a daul dagger articifer, but not sure what kind of party I should have along with me. Any suggestions?
I agree can never have to much guard thats why im gonna put all three masterwork versions of guard on hit 2 3 and 5 plus use the sigil of bronte
How do you stop Charging Bull? I find myself running into walls to keep from exiting the battlefield and having to run back.
It might be time to upgrade the build. With new upgrade options, you might find it worthwhile to switch which one you want.
Are there any changes you would make to this build with the new toggle-able upgrades. Just wondering because I made a new character (Finally make one that looks like fenris \o/) and i was going to go champion sword and shield.
May I ask what tactics settings are you using in this particular build? I'm playing as mage but still wanna use this build with Blackwall and don't really want to control him 100% of the time
So, I'm level 12 and on nightmare, not sure if I'm playing it wrong but it doesn't seem to play this well for me. Any advice would be appreciated.
Okay dumb question, but which of these abilities do i tick, which do i favourite etc?
Is there a Cassandra tank build? I've been looking and cannot seem to find one. I'm sure Blackwall is better, but I would prefer to keep using Cassandra and her Templar abilities. Any link would be appreciated!
I used to have Charging Bull on my tank, but after seeing my tanks run through the enemy lines, and then out of the fight, one too many times, I dropped it for lunge and slash.
