Ugh he doesn't own Church in the books -_- they changed so much, like Alec getting married to Lydia, Clary's age, Luke's skin colour...
Changes are needed for it to work, and some of those changes ended up pretty well, like Lydia's character, is a strong shandowhunter and I honestly love her...yes she wasn't in the books, but the outcome of Malec was kinda the same as the end of book 3 so I won't complain about it at all...Luke's skin color doesn't change a thing...
In the books, Luke is not a police officer, Dorothea is much older and is not called Dot, Clary did not get attacked by a demon when she was younger, Maureen is much younger and is not in Simon's BOYband, the Institute does not have all this high tech computer crap and only the Lightwoods, Jace, and Hodge inhabit it, also Clary discovers the Shadow World after she starts seeing members of it, like the demon boy in Pandemonium, not because she starts drawing runes and shit. In the books, the Circle could not care less about mundane blood, and yet in the TV show they're draining mundanes of it. In the books, Magnus Bane does not own the Pandemonium Club, and he has no connection to it whatsoever. In the books, Jocelyn is caught by Circle members before she had a chance to tell Clary about the Shadow World, and she never started giving Clary steles and stuff. In the books, Dorothea is much less involved with the Circle, and Magnus did not call to warn them about it.
I'm going to tell to you the same I tell every person who complains about the changes...when you turn books into movies or tv shows many things need to be changed, the way you introduce the characters, the dynamic between them...the first 3 books are basically all about Clace and their love/incest/love again....In the show we get to know more about the other characters, and the world that lies behind Clace. It was told since the very beginning of the shooting that there was going to be changes but that they would still go from point A to point B just in a different way. They needed not only to introduce this world to all the new watchers, who hadn't read the books, but also keep it entertained for those who had read them; watching the book been turn exactly into a show would be boring, no surprises at all, no shocks, so what's the point in doing that?
I wasn't sure how they would be able to make work the changes and everything they did and then get it back on track for the season finale, but they did it perfectly and I hold nothing more than respect and trust to the writers.
So you have the books and the show....you can only watch the show and enjoy it, you can read the books, love them and then be realistic and accept the changes and watch the show with an open mind or, if u can't accept the changes then just read the books and leave the show aside...there's no point in watching the show only to complain, is better to make constructive suggestions

The movie is more like the books but I was falling asleep watching it. Changes are needed to make it more entertaining.
