  • Now that we have completed our tiny home build we are going to breakdown the full cost of the build project by project. We had a pretty strict budget, let's see if we were able to stick to it with rising lumber prices.

You have gained more than $18,000 in experience. The knowledge you have now to start your big house is priceless. You now have the experience to not underestimate how long it takes to build. Having this place done you will be able to incorporate some "living" into your next build without feeling guilty.

This is so inspiring! I want to buy land and build a pole barn and tiny house, I just love this SO MUCH!! It' s amazing because with kids even if it's raining out you have all that space where the kids can still play in the barn, love it! I wouldn't even need the bigger house!! Your scenery around you is absolutely breathtaking I wish we had views like that around here!!

Great job on living in a practical, cost effective way! We were given the land as a wedding present, but it was a raw two acres that required survey, excavation for foundation, road, septic, well and underground electric. You are so correct in saying that all these components must be carefully planned into the build. We went to the town beforehand and asked how much the taxes would run on 1,000 square feet of living space with a full walk-in basement. So there were no surprises! Today's modular homes from reputable manufacturers are quality materials and cheaper than stick built. We chose New Era in PA. Four years later, we are very happy! So look around at your options. I love tiny houses as well. Yours will end up as a family compound. So nice to see!

In Germany the "Tiny Homescene" is coming up now, but there are so many regulations and restrictions you have to pay before you start and that costs nearly the same you have payed for your tiny home. For your breakdown we would get a small trailer and then you can put on a Tiny home ( i think a better Doghouse ) to live in. Even when you have a little Farm you would get permission but never so big as yours.

Not too bad... you saved ton by doing most yourself. Good job. Didnt know a pole barn cost so much! But cost does make sense when you hire someone... my friend is building one but they doimg it themselves with help from family and most of them are in construction. They have 5 young children and are planing to do 800sq of of living space... she told me cost of the water drilling and i almost fell over! The costs have so much gone up in the last dew decacades it crazy! They split cost of power poles with neighbor... they got approved for the cheapest septic luckly... right now they living in a camper bigger then yours. They hope to do the barn socthey can pull in their rvs into it... they use one for cooking/eating and larger one for living/homeschooling... and then they have a semi truck trailer that houses as one huge closet/storage and laundry... i dont know how you all lived so long in your littler camper! Glad you managed stay under your budget! Hope all goes well with the rest of the projects! Cant wait to see what you giys do next

So in the future when someone asks your kids "Were you raised in a barn?", they can say "Yeah, actually I was." Great job on the living quarters. None of my business, but I am curious what you guys are doing about health insurance.
