But I got clean, lol different than your story but it brought back memories. Lol

At this point, getting on grid with generator backup was an excellent decision.
In my opinion, 'homesteading' is not about intentionally putting your family at risk if you don't need to, just to uphold some ethereal internet standard. Our ancestors, 'homesteaded', and if they could have put in grid electricity, and indoor plumbing you bet they would have!

If you have no real need to be connected to the grid then you absolutely shouldn't... it's not anymore risky to have a good offgrid system with a backup generator then it is to be on the grid... the grid fails too.. there's been many examples of this and you know it because you explicitly said with a back up generator... the difference is when the grid fails most people are screwed they have no concept of how their electric works and it wouldn't matter if they did... if they are lucky enough to have a backup generator then they like everyone else with backup need gas to run it often its a situation where you may not have access to more gas... if you have a problem with your off grid system you are likely able to resolve it yourself as you have learned how it works if not you're unlikely to be having a issue at exactly the same time the grid has failed and your likely to have more access to the gas you need for your back up in that situation... plus there's just the huge environmental benefits, financial benefits, and the independence you get from your own electric system.... you're not endangering your family for a feeling and you're not endangering your family at all if you are doing it properly... you're idea that its something "dangerous" is just silly... extra electricity is a benefit not a need...

Just barely see her. Your Neveah is still visible. Enjoy time with her while she’s still young and still at home. My 16 year old and her 16 year old brother will soon make their own choice as to where they will abide. I hope they hang around after high school graduation. Tips from a DIYer who re-plumbed a house with PEX :
    • Use 3/4" PEX as much as possible. 1/2" reduces the flow too much.
    • Where ever possible, use the PEX corner bend support braces instead of the fittings. Saves money and you get better flow.
    • That little insulated box where the pipes come up might need an incandescent bulb in winter to prevent freezing.

Need to get some water pipe steel plates for each stud that has water pipe through it. So you don’t get any punctures from hanging drywall.
Place those steel plates on the electrical through spots, if you want to be extra careful of an electrical short from a nail or a screw hitting the wire.

If I clicked on this video hoping for some family drama I would be disappointed. I hope this is viewed as constructive criticism and not a bashing rant. Water is so precious- my husband bought and renovated our home several years ago and it hadn't been lived in in 10 years- which before that it was on well septic which had all been converted to city water and sewer. Anyway- we didn't have the money to pay the city to hook up the water until God made a way for us. Now we are waiting and they just did their part putting in the hookups. We have to dig our trenches and lay our piping to meet the city. Its taken a year for us living without running water or sewer so you can imagine how awesome we feel now that water is happening for us. We collect rain water into a big water tank. We use a porta potty but not much longer. The upstairs bathroom isn't quite finished but everything else in the house is. God bless you all ❤🙏🌺🌸🌊🌧💦💧💦💧💦💧

The scrap pipe pieces brought back memories. Our son was about two or three when my wife and he would visit to see how I was doing on building our new house. Each time he visited, I would grab scraps and make him a toy from them. Forty years before, my grandfather was doing the same for me. Colored plastic pipe pieces work great for inventing toys.
Add a small wood stove and wood pile to the pump house incase of a blizzard that knocks out power for a long time. This winter take some time to study wood gasifiers. Good Luck, Rick

Its due to having a tight seal and water can get around that seal. Also small items can go down under it especially if too much laundry is in it.

Absolutely! Daughter has one of those computerized front loaders- looks like it could launch a satellite- it won’t let me do a small cold pre-soak , while saving the soap/ softener etc, add warm water and do a full load - with out draining and spinning out. Not actually environmentally responsible at all -

Glad to see you went back to the far better unions. Something I wish I had mentioned before it that any time you can do WITHOUT an elbow, (Washing machine water lines), it is best to curve the PEX. This goes for anything that something runs threw. AC/HEAT ducts, water lines, water hose, outlet plumbing and outlet air vents, chimney pipe... Every elbow is a restriction. The only restriction you want in your plumbing is a P-TRAP. This does not mean to make a tight bend in PEX. Just if you can make a nice curve rather than an elbow you are much better off...

Hi guys, When you get around to plumbing up the House. When plumbing in a shower tub valve, use 3/4" fittings for the tub spout going down. The 1/2" PEX fittings cause enough restriction that the shower head will leak while filling the tub otherwise. Looking good!!! oh & you don't have to tef tape the water heater lines as they have a rubber washer for a the seal.

This is the first time I've seen your channel. I used to be in construction & I don't know if you guys know it but there is another pex connector ring that is of the same pex plastic the lines are made of that is the best. It expands with the lines when hot or cold like freezing. Also tankless water heater wpuld have been my choice. Endless hot water one shower after another. Best way to check for leaks is with air pressure tester with air & a gauge . Fill lines with compressed air & see if you have a pressure drop with in 24 hours. No water mess if you have a leak. Build on people.

That is probably the most OCD hook-up I have ever seen! I love the blue for cold,/red for hot color coded water hook-up. The guy, from Sears, hooked up my washer and hooked the cold water to the hot intake and vice versa. Since it would take an act of Congress to get back behind there to change it, we have just adjusted the way we think.
