    I bought the hybrid LE (base trim) Rav4 3 weeks ago. It is a CUV that gets better gas mileage than the tiny subcompact that I was driving before, so that alone has impressed me. I haven't had to fill it up yet and I've been driving it daily (mostly in town). The base trim lacks a lot of the extras that people come to expect now like a push button start/smartkey, electronic adjusting seats, etc., but I wanted something practical, simple, and reliable and I believe that's what I got. I also paid under 30k out the door so I feel good about that, too.

    I got my RAV4 in January and I love it! I got the XLE Premium in Lunar Rock with all the extra options and packages (JBL Audio, Technology pack, etc) for 30k! MSRP was 36k. The standard safety features really sold me on the RAV4. Some luxury cars don’t even have them standard! After having it for 6 months I only have grown to love it more! It’s great on gas and only needs the regular unleaded unlike the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 which require premium. The JBL Audio is amazing I’d definitely recommend it! I just took in it for an oil change with the 2 years of complementary maintenance! (Which Honda nor Mazda offer)

    I was between a Rav Hybrid and a Forester. Ultimately went Forester and am pretty happy with it. The Hybrid wasn't out yet and I was ready to get out of my leased Legacy. I did get a Gas only Rav as a rental a few weeks after getting the Forester, and feel I made the right decision. The Forester rides better and is quieter, the interior doesn't feel as claustrophobic in the drivers seat, and Eyesight functions smoother than TSS. The Forester isn't perfect, it could have better real world observed fuel economy... but without a Hybrid system my drive just doesn't give a chance for the stated numbers; I wish the cup holders were position differently and that the storage cubbies were a little bigger. The thing sthat REALLY irked me with the Rav were the headrest positioning which felt too far forward and honestly the floor mounted accelerator felt uncomfortable to me.

    • @80srockerable
      @80srockerable 5 лет назад +1

      Interesting. Currently own a '16 Outback. Find seat discomfort issues. Am considering Forester Sport or Rav4. The LE Rav4 & Hybrid are priced cheaper than Forester Sport.

    • @717dash_cam
      @717dash_cam 5 лет назад

      @@80srockerable I found towards the end of my 16 Legacy lease the seats just weren't supportive enough for me, just from the lack of bolstering and an overall too wide build. The forester is narrower, and seems to have better bolstered seats, though I'm sure cloth seats vs the leather in my Legacy also makes a difference there.
      My biggest gripes with the Rav really were the engine in the non-hybrid being unrefined, the gas pedal wasn't comfortable to me, and it felt cramped inside and at 5'8 I'm not that tall. The Climate control buttons are crappy, knobs were good but the buttons were too small with small labels that don't seem backlit. The Forester rides better in my opinion, and was quieter. Overall it just didn't feel like what I would expect a Toyota to feel like.
      Some things to consider, if you have an android, you won't get Android Auto with the Toyota, if you have iPhone, Apple Carplay was one of the worst setup experiences I've had with Toyotas setup. That could be my own fault though really...
      The issue with comparing the LE trims to the Sport, is feature content.. To get a real comparison, you're looking at anywhere from the XLE, XLE Premium, or Adventure trim to even come close to matching what either has... by the time you do that you're at the same price point if not more.

    • @80srockerable
      @80srockerable 5 лет назад

      @@717dash_cam Good info. I have android & read comment somewhere on RUclips Toyota will offer dealer upgradable software soon to current models. I literally pulled my headrest out of my outback and turned it backwards. The seats look small in Forester but seemed reasonably comfortable in the few minutes I sat in an unlocked one on dealer lot. I think some comfort is added by being a little more off floor than my OB. I don't like hubcaps on Toyota LE. But hybrid LE gets alloy. Tests I've watched say the hybrid feels much more responsive than gas version. Some difference also with eCVT tranny in hybrid. I really am not a sunroof fan & wish could delete that in Forester sport. I never use and take head room. I guess I'll have to drive both. The Adventure trims kinda pricey fo a Rav4 + mpg dive.

    • @717dash_cam
      @717dash_cam 5 лет назад

      @@80srockerable I agree the Adventure trim is pricey, especially considering the MPG Sacrifice. As for the sunroof, the Forester you still at least have headroom... I felt like headroom suffered with the XLE Rav I was in; I also found the headrest pointing too far forward for my comfort in it. I keep my sunshade closed most of the time in my Sport, and was disappointed to learn it doesn't vent, which was my favorite thing about having a sunroof in the summer.
      I've done 3 hour road trips in the Forester and the seats stayed comfortable enough. Personally, if I have an AWD vehicle, I want real AWD... not just a battery powered traction assist system. I'll pay the MPG penalty to know that if I am ever in need in the winter, I won't run out of battery charge for the rear drive-line. Actually I made the same drive with my Forester that I did the Rav in the last 2 months, since Enterprise didn't have anything for the Tuesday pickup we needed at work. The Rav, hands down has the fuel mileage in the Forester beat... But I didn't care for Toyota Safety Sense's Adaptive Cruise, Lane Keep Assist, or Lane Departure warnings... they all seemed hyperactive and more annoying compared to Eyesight.
      Overall I think I made the right choice for me, wish I would have waited a little longer to not get screwed on the Legacy, but I didn't want to put tires or brakes on it for state inspection.

    • @80srockerable
      @80srockerable 5 лет назад +1

      @@717dash_cam Good info. Ya, I've read about mushy throttle response in Rav4, but Hybrid spose to be better & more horsepower. Good to know about seat comfort as it seems the 100 mile drives where it begins to irritate me, 3 hours for sure would notice. It it wasn't for seat posture I would just keep OB. It does everything else great. Some people complain how jerky Subaru throttle pedal mapping is but I like it aggressive. Good points on awd. That's part of what makes Subaru so secure on slick roads. Although I think toyota & honda have adjusted their systems to be less latent at engagement. And may be reason for some of the AWD mode switches.

  • @johnmorgan1629
    @johnmorgan1629 5 лет назад +1

    Had a good test drive in a RAV4, suited me nicely, not too sporty and or soft, found the steering very light but accurate, don't use phone apps in car, so don't care about phone support. The fuel economy spot on to ratings, which was on a mix of driving, mostly outside town, but slower winding roads, never floored it, so never got to experience the whine of the engine.
    One thing I will say though, is if you don't need the aggressive off road abilities, or towing capacity, I think the biggest challenger to the Gas RAV4, is the hybrid RAV4. For not much more money, potentially much better mileage, this is only in my circumstances, but if drove how normally do, on roads usually on, much better mileage than a gas version, with electric push from rear, which would cover most circumstances I need 4x4 for.

    Had narrowed my new car purchase to the Rav4 and the Subaru Outback. Outback was less expensive, quieter had the same power and the eyesite system was impressive. Found the Outback to be more comfortable for me. So now after 3000 miles, I'm still pleased with the Outback. A Rav4 with 4WD is at least 2 to 3 thousand more expensive.

    I'm getting kind of tired of reviewers listing CVT's as a negative. Honestly, who cares what they sound like? They allow the engine to run at its peak efficiency and power, and that should be the end of the story. Also getting tired of automakers trying to make their CVT's behave like geared automatics. Just let the CVT act like a CVT!

    I like it, but agree with you with respect to the rugged design and lack of android auto. When I questioned the model at the Phoenix Auto Show about no Android auto, she said Toyota wants to focus on safety instead. I thought that was a lame response. By not having Android auto, they will be losing customers.

    As I have to wear suits in my day-to-day job, I love that Toyota offers ventilated/cooled seats on their top RAV4 trims. In the past, this was a feature typically reserved for flagship models such as the Avalon, Land Cruiser, etc. Yes 40K is a little pricey for a SUV/CUV, but worth every penny once you factor all of the features IMO. Let’s not forget that the top trims for Honda CR-V (Touring), Mazda CX-5 (Signature) and Nissan Rogue (SL) all cost over $40K, as well. I am replacing my 2011 RAV4 Limited that I bought new for $33K. It has 455,000 km on it so I’m hoping to get another half a million km on my new RAV4 Trail edition.

Had the wife and my mom with me and we were all just chillin', enjoying the view of the bay.

    Test drove the hybrid along with the CR-V, CX5, and Rogue. The interior layout for driver and front passenger were the best of the bunch. However, driver position wasn’t good for tall or short people. At 6’3” putting the seat as low as possible I was still looking through the top of the windshield. My daughter who was buying a vehicle and is 5’0” couldn’t get a comfortable seating position. She was perfect for the Rogue and CR-V. I feel this car is built for the 5’9” driver. I also didn’t like the “whistle/whine” on the hybrid that sounded like a police siren at a distance with each acceleration. The first two times we were looking around for an emergency vehicle then realized it was our engine. Was sort of weird and slightly annoying.

      This chick hated that "Walmart" blue. Bought silver and not really happy with it. Loved the blue I had with my 2017 Camry.
