I really like how more people give Batman Beyond the attention it deserves ! This episode is clearly one of the best by far and proves once again why Mr. Freeze is such an amazing character.

Meltdown is fucking brutal. After all those years, Victor is finally, _finally_ given a chance to live a normal life, and even though Nora'a passed on, he's able to find love again, and a chance to atone despite his past... and then it turns out said love was just using him and tried to _kill_ him, causing him to get pissed, get out his old suit and kill the bitch, then ends up trying to blow up the whole facility that used him. When Terry tries to reason with him, Powers, now having become Blight, makes things worse, leading Victor to decide to commit suicide while Terry can get out okay. The part of "Farewells" that plays during his death scene is _haunting,_ and his final line... "Believe me... you're the only one who cares..." In the end, both Bruce and Terry were right: Bruce was right about Victor snapping and going Mr. Freeze on everyone, and Terry was right about Victor wanting to atone and choosing to do the right thing, even if it cost him his life to make sure someone like Batman, his biggest obstacle, even if it's a successor, can keep living.

Like I said before this is my favorite episode and conclusion to Mr. Freeze's arc. It's truly heartbreaking that Mr. Freeze was finally getting a second chance and to repay his crime but was later and ultimately betrayed, and then soon dies alone as he knows that Batman is the only one who cares about him. At least he's finally free from his icy prison.

It’s a very difficult answer for “should Freeze be given a second chance.” Both scenarios he was forced into situations out of his control (the first that he got his sub zero affliction because people were trying to shut down his research to save his wife, the second that he was given a new body but his affliction came back and Powers, being the spiteful prick he is, decided to wipe away the work to bring him back). That being said, he still made the choice to become evil. It’s one thing to have a cold outlook on humanity, it’s another to enact violence against people, especially innocents who didn’t deserve your wrath.
I think he did genuinely regret all the things he did, but sometimes the damage can be too great or traumatic, like in Bruce’s case, to even risk a second chance.

One of the most tragic characters that makes everyone feel bad for him , sometimes were actually rooting for them so they can get some what of a happy ending only to shed tiers when you see this characters final moments broken and alone fated to this horrible end.

Batman Beyond is the textbook definition for how to do a successor series properly. As for Mr. Freeze? He got a very poignant send off, although I do admit I wish he could’ve been around a bit longer as a partner to Terry before his final death.

There is something to be said here. For one, you could say that Mr. Fries wasn't given a 2nd chance because the Original has already died. We're following his Clone. Yes, the Clone has all of his memories and personality, but his Original self is now completely dead. His Clone body was that of a regular human, up until it began to regress into the altered state his Original Body had after the accident. Which does tell the audience his entire genetic makeup has been irreparably altered. Had they worked with him to find a cure for his condition, Fries likely wouldn't have turned to sociopathic behavior.
Another thing is that when Fries returned for his revenge, he didn't kill the GPD officers that responded. He only put up an ice barrier to block them from entering. The only two people Fries went to kill for certain was the Doctor who tried to kill him and Powers who ordered it. That's it. He wanted to destroy the facility where he was cloned to prevent such a thing from happening again and his decision to die in the explosion is his own way of putting an end to everything on his terms. With his body mutated once again, he'll never be able to interact with the world again like a normal human and he, in his own words, is effectively immortal. In the sense that he cannot age. He could live theoretically forever. And that is a torturous existence for someone who has no one and nothing left in the world.
If anything, Fries dying by his own hands will prevent any survivors of his past deeds from coming after him for revenge, preventing them from becoming even remotely like himself. It might not be the closer they want, but it's still closure to know that Mr. Fries is, once and for all, dead and gone. With that in mind, you can absolutely say that Fries is a different person from his Original. The Original Mr. Fries would've wanted revenge against the whole city of Gotham and all its innocents. Whereas the Clone only went after those who had directly wronged him before taking his own life. In that sense, you could say that Mr. Fries was redeemed. Not only did he only go after two people who were undeniably evil, but he stopped himself from continuing down that same road once more.

Pretty fucked up when you realize you're gonna end up keep killing people if you aren't stopped. Suicide for him was the ultimate option; And it was rough, because he wasn't a bad guy, only bad due to circumstances.
Freeze deserved better and he ended it on his terms. The most human thing possible.

You know I was actually happy that bruce came around and realized victor was actually trying to be good again. Bruce tried to save him before and even felt bad for him, but his cold acts of violence and villainy kept being brought out, which led to his distrust of freeze. This even happened for harley and penguin, but freeze had the worst fate out of batmans rogues that tried to reform.

Mr. Freeze was really trying to make amends and was walking the path of redemption when the opportunity came, but that bridge was burnt by betrayal.
People can change and if they are willing to make it for real, they deserve that chance and all the help that it comes to it, but if they slip into their evil ways, if the urge to do harm comes back and they fall into that abyss again, them it's all over for them.
It's good to remind people that giving people a chance to change for the better is a good thing, but unconditional forgiveness would create a hell of people taking advantages of others, so if the trust is broken after said chance is given, there's no more helping to be done.

I haven't watch the original batman series but I did watch Batman Beyond. My perspective is that it is difficult to trust people who have made decisions that have harmed/killed/gotten others killed. With Mr. Freeze, we were able to see that he genuinely wanted to make things rights to the people that he's harmed. He couldn't make things right with the people he'd killed. If we don't allow people the chance to change, then the cycle of harm continues. But I'm not sure where to draw the line with trust. Trust isn't something that can easily be fixed, and might never be fixed if broken by someone.

I'll say it again. I think Mr. Freeze's character went downhill when he was turned into a robot with a human head. It ticks me off that the people running the show had to take away Mr. Freeze's happy ending just to continue making him a villain. Also, if his emotions are frozen dead, then why the hell does he have super model henchmen. My opinion, Freeze's story ended with Subzero He sees on TV his wife is cured and cries tears of joy. Even though they may never be together again, all that matters to him is the thought that his wife is alive again.

Mr. Freeze in this continuity deserved a 2nd chance as he was beginning to see the pain he caused and was working towards righting the wrongs he made. While there's no excuse for his later actions in the episode we can understand why he regressed back into villainy.

The thing about 2nd chances, especially in Western comic books like Marvel and DC, is how incredibly hesitant they are to commit to redemption in continuities even when both companies establish a multiverse where they can have storylines go anywhere, they keep resorting to the status quo. And as entertaining as these 2nd chance stories can be, it can feel cheap knowing that they're just going to be back where they started.
As for 2nd chances themselves, it is entirely a case-by-case basis for me, and not everyone can be trusted with 2nd chances. That said Mr Freeze is one of those characters who despite what he's done, has consistently shown the capacity for guilt and wanting to take responsibility for his actions. I rather see Batman rush to save his life over and over. Instead of the clown who with the passing of time is only getting more sadistic and inhuman in the writer's attempts to top the last crime against humanity he's done. Maybe the more tame versions of Joker like the Lego or a Silver Age-inspired version, but not the one that cuts his face off or tricks Superman into killing Lois and their unborn child for fun.
