If one were to enter the Phantom Zone, they would be able to duplicate entities, go invisible, and had a chance to teleport thousands of blocks in an instant! The Phantom Zone is basically the Bermuda Triangle of 2b2t, but things that disappeared in it reappear and duplicate themselves by unknown means.
I’m assuming it might work by throwing an ender pearl in unloaded chunks while not visible by players. Most likely by using elytrafly you could make it work
It's like time travel
If I had to guess, the phantom zone was probably a broken form of an "entity cache" for unloaded chunks with any entity that shouldn't be deleted in unloaded areas (so anything with player data). Since you enter it with a horse or donkey or pig and then log out, you're likely stuck in a no-world state where technically you're bound to your original world, however your not technically "in" the world instance's list of entities so chunk loading, block interaction, etc doesn't work. It's amusing that players could get trapped in this void, however.

@@buizelmeme6288 basically the server and client fight about the player and donkey locations, which affects the way the client grabs chunk information from the server
The player goes in to unloaded chunks. The donkey cant be stored in unloaded chunks, so it stays in loaded chunks. But the player is stil riding a donkey, so the donkey duplicates, if the player logs back in. The invisible stuff is caused by the server thinking you are riding the donkey or horse, but you can walk because the server doesnt know which donkey you are riding. I think its something like this
And the problem that the chunks could not unload is client side, meaning that is doesnt have to do with the paper changes.
The information of the donkey is stored in two seperste places, in the tag 'RootVehicle'. When the donkey goes in to unloaded chunks, it duplicates. One donkey is there because the player is riding it. One donkey is there because the donkey can't go in to unloaded chunks, because it can't be saved when that happens.
(The same is for a horse)

Was a kid's game then, and is one now. But the game is over a decade old and is enjoyable enough where older players still play it, and I find 2b2t to be remisent of an older time, a different minecraft, one that isn't riddled with 9 year olds, annoying updates with bees and stupid nether biomes, and one where you can play the game as it was meant to be played, and sometimes have it's limits pushed. Hacking and exploits don't have rules at it's base state, and on servers that allow it, are perfectly okay. So much for a kid's game lol.

*it's not gone but the requirements are changed because lag reducing plugins mess with it, the laggier the server the more u can enter it.*

@@fastvincent1 Maybe related to the "Ghost mode" bug from before release 1.3.1? The behavior of being effectively invisible to others, and unable to interact with the world sounds very similar.
This seems similar to that boat glitch in 1.16 where you right click a boat super fast and if you do it right, you can go to different places and place ghost blocks but to everyone else you will still be in the boat.

It could. There was an exploit called godmode based off of similar shenanigans that people tended to do with pigs in the nether to troll PvPers while being invisible and unable to take damage, though eventually it was patched. I'm pretty sure I saw a few videos of it being used to grief as well. In terms of destroying bases unnoticed, well that'd kinda be pointless. The best it could do is prevent base members from fighting back but at that point the base is compromised anyway - though iirc it was used to do this anyway a couple of times.
it eventually stopped working according to the video, so chances are the entity cache glitch that it was using got patched on Minecraft's side.

If there was lore for the Phantom Zone i’d say it’s an in-between realm of the Overworld and Collision Void.
Explanation:
The overworld is well, the overworld. The collision void is basically a parallel universe overworld where everyone and everything is dead, along with the world being completely invisible.
It's not a parallel dimension, because there was other players who didn't saw the entities in the phantom zone.

I got into the phantom zone once. I was looking for fossils when they first came out and the world started lagging. So I left the re joined the world and when I came back none of the mobs could hurt me and I couldn't load the chunks. So I left then re joined again and It was back to normal. I thought it was just lag tho.
My guess on what the phantom zone is, is something related to client and server disagreeing on whether entities exist or not
They could've used the anti-unloading to load thousands of chunks and lag the server

Has anyone else ever ran into spiders that are for some reason just completely invisible? Like not just a potion effect, just straight up missing a hitbox, no particles, just spider noises and taking damage as if there is a spider? kinda reminds me of that

Guys, this case was solved on 2b2t when some players built a ginourmus lagg machine. So it's possible to eliminate hitboxes if server machine is very overloaded.
Just imagine the events that could occur when this power is in the wrong hands.

I'm a minecrafter who lives in the neither so I have some experience with alternate dimensions, and this phantom zone has some neither aspects. like how in the neither 8 overworld blocks can be covered in 1 neither block.

Good memories, I remember that weird glitch. It literally made players ghosts, and there was even a way to make players get stuck in that zone, untied from the mob.

It looked normal, except you couldn't load chunks. The donkey was outside of it unless someone ran it back through, and you couldn't interact with entities from the "real" world from the phantom zone.

Euhm I got the same issue... sometimes when I’m entity speed hacking on an anarchy server I get into an unloaded chunk and I can’t do anything until I relog. Is related with the phantom zone or is it something weird?

This is just inproper chunkloading. Phantom zone seems like a combination of speedhacking, inproper chunkloading and chunkloading problems
My initial thought was end chunks, but all of or most end chunks are pre loaded, and that would not explain players being seen in the phantom zone.
It will truly be one of 2b2t's many mysteries.
I think all of 2b2ts history and strange discoverys like this could make up a really nice book or even movie

i discovered this glitch on my own around a month ago on a private smp. Maybe it's not the same, but a similar one, but idk. I discovered that when you sit in a boat/minecart then log out and back in, you can move freely and place blocks behind the boat, but still in range of the player. You could also move, but other players don't see that. My hypothesys is that the server thinks you are still in the boat, but your client doesn't, and that's where the glitch comes from and why you can move freely, but without loading chunks: the server thinks you are in the boat, so it doesn't load the chunks for you.

I feel like something similar to this used to happen on bedrock edition... mobs would sometimes go completely invisible and were unable to be hit or make noise, but could still kill players.

In fact,if phantom zoning was replicated in singleplayer and combined with glitched flight,it could make à good transport system,allong with à rideable entity having the ability to go to the phantom zone allong with the rider and other leashed entitys.
Maybe this is like an unfinished dimension that you wouldn’t get thought with a portal, but by going super fast on a entity like a donkey/horse . Like you where going so fast you broke out of the overworld.
i really doubt that, the feature seems super unintuitive, not to mention the speeds necessary to perform the glitch were only possible with hacks. it's a lot more likely to just be desyncing issues between server and client data, and how the server attempts to reconcile these conflicts.

It sound kinda spooky the way it is explained and presented, in my head I am imagining players or entities that have lost contact of the world and have become ghosts and that just sounds kinda sad or creepy but it sounds like a horror story you would tell at a campfire if it wasn’t Minecraft
This reminds me of a glitch in the immersive portals mod where you would make a long tunnel, put portals at the end of it, and watch as mobs such as zombies phased out of existence. I called it “twinking,” for some odd reason. You could also twink if you rode a horse, which was really weird.

This is like something you’d see in a fantasy game, like used as a plot device
To be honest, it sounds like he was loading chunks he wasn’t in. I’m not talking about unloaded chunks within 100s of blocks, I’m talking about teleportation. Possibly since he was moving so fast, paper spigot itself couldn’t keep up with the player, so they stopped them from loading chunks as a lag prevention method. This would most likely cause the person to enter the phantom zone for that reason. But this is just a theory, a game theory.
I think I know what happens:
When Minecraft loads a chunk, it is set to keep that chunk loaded in memory. However, when the Phantom Duping occurs, the rendering engine thinks that the player has left the area, and when they log back in again, the engine has no idea what to do, creating the Phantom Zone.

Wonder if it's a bug in the passenger system, spigot/paper/bukkit change the way that works. Could be setting you as riding an entity that it thinks doesn't exist, or riding entities with the same uuid, which could absolutely mess stuff up. I'd be surprised if this works outside of servers, or could be some bug in an attempted fix, as 2b2t has a lot of little custom patches for certain issues or mechanics.
