    I love that Colin corrects her and says he's Irish please note Colin fans he says he's Irish NOT BRITISH

    • @RubyFOB
      @RubyFOB 6 лет назад +3

      CATMAJ57 he’s from Northern Ireland though, which is part of the UK. So he is British. Although I understand why he wanted to correct her since most people associate British with England.

      Ruby K Northern Ireland isn’t part of Great Britain though - so technically he would still be Irish not British!! :)

    • @RubyFOB
      @RubyFOB 5 лет назад

      Cady Fitzgerald hmm okay then, so is there no word to describe someone from the UK as a whole? British only refers to Welsh, English and Scottish?

    • @cadyfitzgerald3273
      @cadyfitzgerald3273 5 лет назад +4

      Ruby K In common tongue (by this I mean the language that everyone usually uses) the demonym for the UK is “British people” or “a Briton” but it is is important to remember that demonyms often overlap and can consist of multiple nationalities. According to British nationality law all citizens of the UK have British nationality so most people choose to simply use the term “British” to describe anyone in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Where it gets complicated is that many people, particularly in Northern Ireland, while “British citizens” by law, they will still refer to themselves by the nationality of their own separate country, in this case “Irish”, usually because this is something they’re proud of. So while “British” is a term that is nowadays used for anyone living in the UK, it originally applied only to Great Britain in the historical context and many people still like to distinguish themselves by the separate nationalities because this is a source of pride and identity. I have no idea if this made any sense at all but I really hope so! :)

    I’m an American who hasn’t had the chance to travel outside the US yet. From what I understood, Northern Ireland was part of the U.K., so that would’ve made Colin Irish but also technically British. But he made it a point to correct her, “no I’m Irish.” I know Scotsmen are considered British as well, so is there a reason Northern Irish are not considered British even though they’re part of the U.K.?

    • @cadyfitzgerald3273
      @cadyfitzgerald3273 6 лет назад +7

      Music! Løver I think, I may be wrong though, it's because usually when someone is described as "British", the description is of a person who comes from Great Britain rather than a person who comes from the United Kingdom. Although the UK consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, Great Britain only consists of England, Scotland and Wales. So as Colin is from Northern Ireland, he's technically not British in the sense that he's not from Great Britain, although he is from the UK. Therefore, he corrects the interviewer and says that he is Irish. Sorry if this was a little confusing. I hope this makes sense and clears things up for you! :)

      The full name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The island of Great Britain only refers to England, Scotland and Wales so although they are all UK nationals, they’re not all British.

    • @Valencetheshireman927
      @Valencetheshireman927 3 года назад

      @@ceceyam Everyone in the U.K. is British because “British” is the national identity of the U.K. . Plus , Ireland is in the British isles (even if they don’t like that term) .
      If you go to Northern Ireland the unionists consider themselves British because they are a part of the U.K. and want that to continue .

    • @Jay-we2ek
      @Jay-we2ek 3 года назад

      Northern Ireland is part of the UK, but it's not part of Britian. Britain (or Great Britain) is England, Scotland and Wales. The UK contains Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland. For proof, look at the official name "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Says it in the name. So, no a Northern Irish person is NOT British.

      @@Valencetheshireman927
      No, you're wrong. Britain (or Great Britain) is England, Scotland and Wales. The UK is both Northern Ireland + Britain. Hence, "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Someone from Northern Ireland is from the UK but they're not British.

    Can someone tell me what happened to LeoxMia? I only watched up to episode 6 in the first season and then I started skipping around lol. I found out Mia fell in love with Ed, who was a jerk? And I've been seeing a lot of LeoxMattie videos... I totally shipped MiaxLeo! What happened?! :(

      Well to be honest I shipped them in the beginning as well. But then we find out Mia is like a mother to Leo and he is like a son to her so the shipping ends. After that I started to realise all the little moments between Leo and Mattie and the shipping began again. I think they're going to be canon, at least her feelings for him are canon already
