    I have 7 red rangers. They are 23 weeks old and very healthy. However they are still not laying eggs. What can I do to get them laying? They do free range, plus high protein.

      If they are too fat, then put them on a diet. Overweight is not good for anyone, humans or animals, so put them on a diet even if it hurts you to see them beg for food, else you might only get very few eggs in return for all the extra feed you give them.

      Put the feed in front of them, and let them eat all they can eat for say 10 minutes, and then remove the food until the next day. They will not die. And if in a few weeks to a month they have not given you any eggs, reduce the feeding time to 5 minutes and wait another few weeks to a month for results. Weight the birds before and after the diet to see if they have lost weight and how much, also feel their breast to see how big or small it feels at the start and after a month of the diet, so you can keep track of their weight and physical condition. If these birds were the result of crossings with a Cornish Cross chicken, then feed must be restricted so they don't get too large if eggs is what you want, because the Cornish Cross chickens have an extremely efficient feed to meat conversion ratio, and they can do well eating half or less what a normal layer can eat, and they will still put on weight.

      Also give them crushed egg shells or crushed oyster shells for calcium if not done already on a regular weekly basis.

      Don't give them high protein feed, just regular layer's feed, that is all they really need once they are fully grown and ready for egg production.

    The Happy Chicken Coop, you said that the Red Ranger does not breed true, is that comment based on your actual experience, or based on internet myths?

    • @PeterSedesse
      @PeterSedesse Год назад

      It is based on science and genetics. They are no different than Cornish crosses.

      @@PeterSedesse FYI, I have raised Cornish Cross hens and roosters past the year mark, and I have hatched and raised their chicks, and the chicks grew just as fast and just as large as the parent stock, so keep following and spreading the false internet myths which helps no one but the big corporations.

      @@cubaniton74 Please google " what is a punnett square'... it is something taught in like 7th grade biology and reinforced in 10th grade. Or you can visit one of the places that sell cornish crosses, and you will see that they don't have cornish crosses as breeders. Again, just because you don't understand the science behind something, doesn't mean it is a myth.

    Delaware is far superior

    • @cubaniton74
      @cubaniton74 Год назад

      Delaware is considered a multipurpose breed, not great at laying, not great at meat production, while the Red Rangers, and Red Broilers, and Cornish Cross, are meat birds, not great at egg laying, but great at meat production, and nothing can beat the Cornish Cross at meat production.
