What do you do when YT is pushing your videos to the wrong audience? 2 very very very large gaming channels pushed traffic to our health channel because they liked our content. The issue is that gamers are 12-20year old boys are not interested in getting healthier. My main viewer should be 30-55year old women, but YT keeps showing my videos to gamers and rappers viewers. I have asked so many people this question, but no one seems to know how to fix it. We have over 200 videos on health for 10years. We try to do trends, same and similar titles to others in our genre, collaborations, bring people onto YT, watch peaks and valleys in analytics, cc, endcards, cards, translations, playlist loops, and any other tactic people recommend, etc. Is it going to just take time to train YT that we don't have a gaming or rapping channel?
Hi Dr. Sten, great question and one I'd love to answer in a future video. But to reply here I would say 3 things: 1. Sometimes our audience is not who we think it should be. Do you know if you are actually getting views and subs from this gaming audience? If not, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. If yes, then maybe there's something in your content that is helpful to them, which is a good thing! 2. Take a look at your audience retention graph for each video, especially the videos that being promoted by the gaming channel. If the videos have good retention (they are being watched 50-75% way through) then again you're doing well. 3. If your main concern is that the gamers will not turn into clients and customers, you can't really be 100% sure of that unless you test it. Do you currently offer a product or service and if so, are people who buy it finding it via RUclips? In short, having a diverse demographic isn't necessarily a bad thing and there are ways you could possibly capitalize on this new audience. However if you absolutely don't want your content to attract gamers, then make your video content specific to the older female demographic by giving their examples and talking about their problems. There's a lot more to say on this topic but I'd like some feedback from you first on the questions I asked for greater clarity.
I love the tip about asking your Facebook group for ideas & tagging them when the video is completed. I wouldn’t have thought of tagging people from the discussion. 👍🏻🐰❤️
Salma I used to have that exact same belt! Kept it since the 80s or 90s forever, until the elastic finally wore out. Mine had animal charms dangling from the moon shaped buckle. Got it at a mall store. Wow! I love seeing this on you! 😁
Great tips! I share links to answer questions, but like you said I add context when sharing my links. On my last video 56% of views in the first 24 hrs were from external using this method. Think of what a big boost that was in my initial views. 😁🐰❤️
Mighty Itauma Itauma yes! But make sure to make it conversational or interactive so people respond vs just a link share. Go!! 💜 And follow the group rules 😁
Thanks Salma, I am new to being a youtuber(2-3 months) and this data was valuable for me in order to understand how can I tailor my social media accounts to organically advertise my youtube videos. Much Appreciated!!!
Hi Salma, u are on point, there is no bluffing & waste of time. That was awesome. I have been putting my YT video links on my fb all this time & my views went down suddenly, though such an attractive series of 'Harry Potter theme park' going on, I saw tremendous decrease, I was really saddened as its v unique & I was wandering why it's not working. I will not post links anymore.
Salma a new sub here! I realize I sub to very few women as men dominate the "youtube success" space then I remembered you! And how much value you give--I was like hey why am I not subbed ot her?
Aww thanks so much for subscribing 🙏. I'm interested in hearing your perspective though, why do you think it's easier to sub to men in this space? Because it's a conversation I would love to explore in more detail at some point.
Do you recommend running ads on fb, ig of say, the hook of the video to promote the RUclips video? Or running google ads to promote the video? I've done both and both work. I have about 20k followers on all 4 social platforms mentioned in the video but my RUclips videos are what I put my time into so I want to promote the RUclips videos. I have no problem paying to promote my videos. What I noticed when running ads on google was that gave me the by far better actual RUclips results. Views, likes, comments and subscribers. What are your thoughts? Also I've heard don't run paid ads on a youtube video right when you post because it will screw up your metrics but I've also heard the opposite that the paid ads will trick the algorithm to pushing the video out more. Please help lol thank you
Yes I do think ads with the hook in them would help drive more views to RUclips..i currently use this edit for organic promotion but theres no reason not to put some $$$ behind it if you can, especially if the primary purpose is to drive people to RUclips. I agree with those that say dont promote your video with ads too soon. Give it at least a week of organic growth before putting $$ on it so that you dont sabotage organic growth.
Great video, I didn't realize that I should be spending that much time promoting a video, but it makes sense. I tried it in the past on sites such as reddit, but my posts usually got taken down for "self-promotion". The content I am focusing on now is more on HOWTO videos for certain products and the rules on company forums is much more lax so I'll give this a try. Do you have any social media sites you recommend avoiding such as Reddit so we don't waste our time?
Yes Reddit has it's own rules and they are very strict. I would recommend starting with Facebook Groups, simply because they are narrow in terms of interest and audience.
Thanks for replying, I'll give Facebook Groups a shot. Can I join a Facebook Group as a Facebook Page or do I have to join as a user? I'd rather not use my real name. Any suggestion?
I am going to try linkedin and posting short clips in other social medias. I haven't tried them yet.Thank you for sharing the ideas and mentioning me in your video as well.
I've been doing the short 60 second clips and sharing across social media. I didn't know about the Twitter algorithms definitely will keep that in mind thanks
Daniella Genas Awesome to know Daniella. Have you seen the follow-up tutorial to Wave on how to create social videos faster? Do check it out, it's the latest video on my channel.
We definitely need to change our approach to promoting our videos (which has been pretty much non-existent so far. We have been working hard on content and then just hoping that the RUclips algorithm picks up on us, I guess. We provided us with some great ideas that we are going to start implementing right away! Thanks!
I'm super excited to start sharing on Facebook. I already belong to a group, but I need to find a group that is looking for the answers to the videos I am doing. Great info
This is a very important topic. Because I am targeting senior level business leaders Linkedin seems to be the "promotion engine" of choice. Thanks for the tips.
Update: I can’t believe you talked about your belt at the end! When I made my first comment about the belt because I used to have it too, I did that within the first couple of minutes I noticed it right away and I left a comment and now you’re talking about it too LOL great minds think a like…
Salma, I thoroughly enjoyed this video, superb presentation and valuable ideas. I am relatively new to giving this remarkable platform a go and embracing excellent tutorials like this one. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much Andreas! RUclips is indeed an awesome platform, just takes a little time to master. My best advice? Stick with it. Start where you are and improve as you go along 👍💯
Salma, I appreciate you taking the time in between busy schedule to actually respond to my message. That in itself is encouraging that even small RUclipsrs are acknowledged by awesome creators. Keep up the good work 🙂
Iv been doing this Everytime I upload a video . Very effective. Promoting them. To friends and family and social media with people who know me and are interested in my content
Michael Day yes! Typically how-to RUclips video views peak 24-48 hrs after publishing and then die down till they accumulate enough watch time to rise again. This video is doing better than the average at 570+
Yes I agree :P Did you earn money as a result of previous video campaigns with advertising? For example, your previous videos may have taken 2-8 hours to make each. Your time must be worth $10-50 an hour, have you earned a ROI on them? For example, I spent 7 hours @ $10-50. So $70-$500, making a video and I've received $300 ad revenue after one year. Based on your previous videos, and website ads etc. which has had the best ROI?
Michael Day Ah I see what you mean. I don't value my videos that way - monetarily. Everything I earn is because of these videos. That includes enrollments in my group mastermind, consulting clients, course sales, brand sponsorships, affiliate marketing and speaking gigs, so far. The videos build the brand. Everything is tied in to the RUclips channel in some way.
I've pushed ads on Facebook (unrelated to my RUclips) with excellent business growth and clients trustworthiness. So for you, what has been the most successful 'time investments' in terms of financial growth with your brand?
@@SalmaJafri Hmmmmmmmm I usually just throw my link every where. But that didn't go so well on reddit and so I started chatting a bit and I think that worked a bit better there. I .. have found that I get more results just interacting on youtube lately.
