Hello! I am also almost 4 years into life without shampoo and I am the biggest fan! (In fact, I wrote a book about and have sold thousands which tells me there are ALOT of women wanting to give up the chemicals and regain healthy, natural hair!) xx
I have a question You should only waterwash your hair or use some stufs once a week like bakingsoda that I've heard in some other youtube videaos or the water is enough?
I must say that apparently the transition phase can last much longer. It's been six months that I've been washing my hair with water only and just recently my hair has started to feel more like it should. There might be many reasons though why it's taken so long but anyhow I'm happy with my hair.
I have to admit. By far this is my fav video for first timer, wanting to try no poo. I have watched several videos in hopes of gathering info as a first timer but most of them were just bla bla and bla. Thank you so much for getting straight to the point. Can’t wait to try...
I've been no-poo since around October of last year but I do use the baking soda and vinegar. I live in Alabama and it's crazy humid here so I can't normally go longer than 3-4 days without my hair looking gross. Over the winter, though, I was able to go 7-10 days and I really loved how effortless it was. My hair looked the best it's ever looked.
Rebecca G Great to hear! It's usually very humid here but the climate has been changing rapidly for about a year now and it's rarely humid now. When it was my hair would look like medusa!
Actually yes and I still love it. I heard about people having breakage too but my hair is still extremely soft and healthy. I've always assumed that the breakage issue may be due to people still washing too often once they switch to no-poo. I make it a point to never wash more often than every 3 days, I always rinse with apple cider vinegar afterwards, and I haven't run into any issues. I honestly think I have less breakage now than I used to when I was using conventional products. Could certainly be individual differences though.
I am in Alabama too! I just started water only, finally grew my bleached dry hair out. I'm all natural now. It's tough because my hair looks fine but feels icky! Hoping it balances out
Omg to brush your hair while showering?? THAT IS GENIUS!! I wish I could've known this before! I currently wash my hair once a week but I feel im doing an injustice to my hair either way and I feel that my scalp is tired of washing even w/ natural shampoos. I just started brushing my hair in the shower and ITS LESS GREASY. Im still on week 2 of transition period and already seen a difference! I have fine straight hair so we shall see? BUT THE BRUSHING WHILE SHOWERING W/ water and applying rose water or in my case eucalyptus oil after showering immediately-literally ZERO smells! I LOVE IT THANK YOU THANK YOU
If brushing your hair in the shower be careful because the hot water makes your hair extra fragile so if you're also not using shampoo/conditioner, it could really damage your hair.
Thank you so much! This is the first video I've watched from someone who mentioned a problem with dandruff. I struggle with dandruff and an irritated scalp, and I've been hesitant to try quitting shampoo because of that. This is really inspiring, and makes me feel like I can do it :)
I just started no-poo yesterday. I'm going to have to wash twice a day. A couple of years ago, I went poo-free for months but on a whim, I stated using poo again. I regretted it. I'm looking forward to going no-poo again! Also, I haven't used soap in the shower since I first went poo-free.
Thank you for this! I have been doing no-poo for a while now and i love it! I am getting all the curls back in my hair, I'm actually getting my ringlets back now! Its so incredibly soft, smooth, shiny, frizz free. The only thing I don't like about my hair is all the knots.
Something that actually really helped my build up reduce A LOT! Was taking a coconut oil bath and brushing my hair with the oily water. PS love the rose water tip, i'm going to give it a try
It's worth mentioning that soft water is absolutely essential to the success of this approach. Scritching, preening and brushing are also good ways of getting the sebum down to the ends of the hair.
Amazing video! Super informative with exactly all we need to know. Good for you to go strait to the best, water only once a week. I've been doing the same but needed to hear this. I was frustrated with my hair and found from your video that I was brushing dry hair and water washing 5x a week. It wasn't working. Thank you for helping me! I've started and stopped for the last year. I'm on month 2 poo free and still transitioning. I'm embracing my curls and saying bye bye to frizz thanks to your info! God bless you and yours.
I'm so glad you made a video on this! Over the past few years (and 4 kids later) I started using the baking soda/ACV method. It worked for a while, but then it stopped for some reason! I kept getting a huge tangle underneath my hair. So I went back to organic shampoo and that worked for a while but the same thing happened. I stumbled across Tara Creel's channel of water only washing and have been using that method since April 16th. Not great results so far, but I'm also cleaning up my diet, so hopefully that will move things along faster!
I've been hair product free, water only, for over 1.5 years now. I still eat mostly cooked foods & I don't need to use shampoo, just wash my hair with water every other day. I have quite short hair though.
Thank you! I love that when you said we can reduce the frequency of washing our hair first before we go no poo. That sounds more possible to me than going straight to it ❤
I love all of your videos, but this might be my favorite! Thank you for the great advice and inspiration! I've been considering giving up hairspray and shampoo for quite some time, and NOW feels like the right time. It's a huge step for me, and I actually went "no poo, no hair products" (cold turkey) a few days before this video came out! After 2 weeks, it really isn't very oily, so I'm pleased with that. However, my hair is short and thin, so I don't feel very pretty right now. It's so flat and lifeless, and I dislike my short cut. :( In addition to "no hair products," I have decided to discontinue coloring my hair and letting it go gray (I'm 50 and my hair is probably 90% gray). It's another huge step, but I'm gonna try. I feel so young eating raw and since losing 75 lb 5 years ago, and I just haven't been able to accept my gray hair until now. It's an emotional decision for me, but it feels so right to go natural! I greatly appreciate your courage in sharing your lifestyle with us! Now I know I'm not alone and am on a wise path! Thank you!
***** That's one of the reasons I'm growing my hair out. I had it short for many years but it actually took quite a bit more maintenance than having long hair.
Your skin is your second stomach so whatever you put on your scalp and skin will end up in your internal organs. So I can see the benefits of not using toxic ingredients on your shampoo and other beauty products.
Thank you for this video! I'm 15 days in going no poo water only (cold turkey..) and it's so good to see that there's hope :-) Your hair looks gorgeous by the way!
I went to no-poo 6 months ago and would recommend it! The brush is a excellent thing. I also invested in a good brush from Germany. The best investment for pampering yourself.
Claudia Kerssemakers I have't professionally cut my hair in 2-3 years :) I cut about half an inch off maybe once a year but that's all. I'm growing my hair to my waist so I cut it as little as possible
I have a month with the no poo method, yesterday I used coconut oil in my hair because it felt kinda dry and now I don't know how to remove the coconut oil because now I don't used shampoo 🤦♀️
For the past month I started every other day shampooing. The second day looks a bit greaser and horribly greasy by dinner time. Ive been doing rt4 for. Bit but I'm starting a fully raw lifestyle today. Maybe I'll start every 2 days. I'd love to get to using none! Love your videos!!
I have hard water and thin fine hair. I have tried just water washing but it doesn't work. And coconut oil just makes it very greasy. So for four years I have been using baking soda and vinegar rinse. Using them I never had a transition period and my hair is healthier than it's ever been.
Your hair is so beautiful! Im going no-poo. I have had short hair for many years, and have used SO MANY products and have color-treated my hair as long as i can remember. Now i use the dr. Bronner's castile soap every 5 days, as a transition. and thats it. And no blowdrying .. Im trying to grow my hair long and i hope these steps will give me healthy hair (and overall health when i dont use all those nasty chemicals !) :-D
this is so interesting and helpful! i mostly use all natural products, but i still experience that annoying oil build up and I've been wanting by to try this for a while.. it's summer, so it's the perfect time!
I've done no poo for around 5 months now. It helped my scalp SO much. I use bicarbonate of soda and apple cider vinegar though but in the future I want to go WO(water only). And tea tree oil - again for the scalp. I shower it maximum once a week I believe. And after the shower i put some argan oil in. It's crazy we think we have to use schampoo and conditioner since it's really a new invention.. And my boyfriend prefers the natural smell over the fake schampoo-scents, he loves to smell it haha. Brings out our natural scents :)
Great info. I am on no poo more then a year. The only problem I have is once a months that I have to color my gray/white roots. I try to eat as raw as posible 70-80% of my diet, and I still see all the benefits of the no poo method :-)
thanks for making this video. It was very informative. I want to go no poo but I still eat a lot of cooked foods... every time I've tried I give up like one week in because my hair gets so greasy. Perhaps weening myself off shampoo slowly as you suggested is the step I've been missing. I still am not sure I'll ever get there considering that I still eat cooked foods and oils from time to time... Thank you though!! Your hair is beautiful.
When I went vegan I cut down to washing only the roots of my hair and now I never wash my entire head of hair but I don't think I could go completely no poo because I have to use a lot of hairspray for my hair because of cheerleading and we all have to do our hair in hairspray curlers with a big bump in the front and I also have to use hairspray to keep it in place for practice because otherwise it goes everywhere. Hopefully one day I can abandon shampoo altogether. I already don't wash any of my skin except my face because it seems to work much better for my skin.
I don't know, Tara. My hair is blonde and silver, naturally, and it is curly with a tendency to being fluffy, as well, especially in the colder months like it is now. I can give this idea of yours a go, certainly, and shall also go to the health food store to see what they have. I like argan oil products and spray to tame the frizz. I did try rinsing with diluted bicarb soda in water to rinse with out using shampoo, and followed up with some coconut oil on the ends but my hair felt dirty after a few days of this. Anyway.....Wish me luck!
Andara Lemurian You don't have to go "no poo" this was just a highly requested video. My hair had a film on it easily for a year after trying this method. It definitely takes time to adjust
Best hair care video i've seen you covered the issues many have with this method and i have found the cleaner my diet the better my hair and without using shampoo :-)
It was just a guess as I was just going to use shampoo if it didn't. LOL. I had oily hair pretty bad. I put about 5 table spoons of agave to 10 spoons of warm water or more (didn't really measure too much. Put on my head and massaged for a few minutes, Flipped hair and did another few then rinsed. Then did the apple cider rinse. Actually surprised it worked so well
I tried going no poo three years ago and it really didn't work at all! I wasn't even vegan back then (have been now for two years) and I still eat cooked food so... I think it will only work if you eat at least raw til 4! I also have curly hair and it would be amazing if the oil distributed itself more naturally! Right now I use Living Libations shampoo and conditioner and sometimes natural oils like argon or jojoba so I don't think it's that bad :) great video!!
***** I agree - Diet really does have a lot to do with it. That's why I use coconut oil on the ends of my hair. The oil doesn't quite make it down that far!
Hey! I follow you on Instagram and I have just decided to go cold turkey shampoo free! I am so excited but I have always had very oily hair in my roots, I eat fairly clean (cheat meal 1x/week) lots of fruits and veggies, I do consume some fish, sunflower seeds are a go-to late night snack but I was washing my hair every day to every other day because of the oil build up top and would put Moroccan Oil on the dry ends. I love this video! I actually bought a wooden brush because of this video and my hair gets extremely tangled when wet. My hair is very long and I have high school reunions coming up, a wedding, etc and I I've been going about 4-5 days without washes now. I'm very nervous about how my hair dresser will react to this and what my hair is going to look like for this wedding I'm in in less than a month! You said it took you about a year.. I've heard people results were 6 weeks. Did your hair grow? Im nervous I will be made fun of. Did you wear hats? Thank you for the video!
Cool to hear your perspective as having done it for so long. I'm going to try it out for a few months at least and review it on my blog. ❤️❤️ Thanks for sharing.
Love this video, Tarah. You're always so thorough! Now that I've gotten Caveman for my skin down pat, I'm ready to try No-Poo. Did it once before years ago when I was eating cooked and processed foods and it did not work. But I think I'm ready to try again now. Definitely notice a big difference the more nuts I eat in my diet.
Love the video. I've been trying to wean myself off shampoo for awhile now. Currently I use shampoo once a week and only a vegan biodegradable kind. I'm very tempted to go cold turkey now after seeing your video. Don't know if I can do it but I will try.
I have tried a couple "low poo" shampoos and conditioners. I like them just fine. I also tried the baking soda and apple cider vinegar thing. It was..meh. Really didn't keep at it long as I got sick of people telling me I was ruining my hair. I am totally going to transition to the real no poo lifestyle. I have really curly hair that can get crazy frizzy, so I foresee a lot of ponytails and updo's in my future. lol Thanks for the great video. I am also interested in a raw diet. Looking forward to watching more videos from you. :)
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. A week ago, I started on no-poo, and three days later, I got desperate and bought some expensive, 100% natural shampoos. Now it's like day 7 or something, and my hair is such an oily, yet dry mess. I've been doing this for about a week now, and Tarah, I've been feeling so alone these past few days - everywhere I looked, I just couldn't find a perspective quite like yours. You make the no-poo method sound so much easier. Thanks a million for sharing. I REALLY hope you do another video for no-poo FAQs, and I have a question: Can no-poo followers go swimming in between showers without affecting their hair? Like, say I take 1-2 showers a week, but it's summer and I want to swim in the lake or beach every other day. Would that affect my oil production? Thanks, ~ Natalyn
Natalyn You're welcome :) It can be tough in the beginning but it's all in what you make of it. Oh I love swimming and it's never effected my hair. If anything it's even better because the water is so clean and natural.
What’s wrong with cooked vegetables? Broccoli isn’t gonna make my hair greasy... my hair is the same texture as yours and I’m trying the curly girl method, been doing it for 6 months, no need to go raw.
The title of your video had me scared. I'm glad your talking Shampoo. By the way, Your hair looks lovely. It goes well with your Other lovely parts that are too numerous to mention.
I did the No-Poo method for six months but was stopped because my hair just became fatter and fatter, I could not get it clean without shampoo. But now I have seen this video and I 'm going to try it again anyway ^^. Thank you for you're advice ;-)
I really liked this video, Tarah! I do use apple cider rinses and I think they are great. I also have naturally curley hair and I think it helps with the frizziness, I combine some acv with rosewater and water and then rinse my wet hair with it. :) I do brush my curls when my hair is dry and I completely hate that feeling, it hurts and looks awful afterwards. You totally inspired me to only brush my hair when it's wet!
Thank you for the video! It answers several questions I had... So, you don't do at all the brushing the oil down to the end of your hair once it's dry? I thought it worked like that... I've been 'no poo' for five months, eating raw and it still gets oily. I spend so much time every morning and every night brushing the oil down it's ridiculous.
***** You're welcome! I do put oil in my palms and rub it through my hair down to the ends. Not when it's dry, though. I suppose it doesn't overly matter if you do it when it's wet or dry. I know how you feel but it does take time to regulate itself!
40BelowFruity No sorry, I meant brushing the natural oils from your scalp to the ends, with like a fake boar brush you know? Every time I look for some info on no shampoo that's what people do. Like everybody, the method is: you wash your hair with very hot water for the natural oils, massage your scalp, then rinse with cold water to fix the oils, let your hair dry, then spend approximately four to five hours (not even kidding) brushing it, descending the natural oils from scalp to the ends. But you don't talk about the temperature of the water and apparently don't need to brush it like that and even brush in the shower, so that would mean that hot/cold water isn't such a good idea? I am CONFUSED haha. I'm sorry I'm trying to figure this out because the brushing does take me a lot more time than when I was using shampoo, which is like the opposite of what I wanted to accomplish. On one hand I feel great because I can see my hair getting stronger and I love my natural curls, but on the other hand after every shower it's so so greasy for hours, it's really disgusting and I do feel frustrated like hell. And there is still the white stuff you know on my brush, do you what it is?
Oh wow I've never heard of that and I've never done that. I have very hot showers but I've gone through periods of time where I've only bathed in a moderately warm/luke warm ocean or even a pretty cold river and there's been no difference at all. I brush my hair for as long as it takes to get the knots out, a few minutes at most. The white buildup is your natural oils and I had the same buildup for about a year.
going to try this but with modification to my needs, I'm driving a grain truck, that means I'm covered in dirt and sweat and seed dust, grasshoppers are an evil too, so need to really get that out, am going to try a natural shampoo made by me so my hair doesn't get awfully horrible, was going to use a base of coconut oil with Castile soap (a very small amount) then oil to soften it...hope it helps those chemicals really do hurt you, I'm 50 and am experiencing memory loss right now, that shouldn't be happening, am just now learning about all the chemicals and what they do to the body, hope I can reverse some of it...worries the heck out of me!
This has been on my recommended videos for like a few days and I kept asking myself why they wanted me to watch a video about some girl talking about why she doesn't poo. The second I clicked on it I said ohhhhhh it means shampoo"
Haaaaa God this video was like a Christmas present! :D been secretly wanting you to talk about this topic ever since I found out you only water wash your hair!! I tried water only for a year - and it was great - after a year I just stopped being able to keep it clean as well as I was - I'm sure part of that was diet though as I still ate processed things occasionally! while I doubt I'll be fullyraw for a long while my diet is way cleaner, almost no gluten and just focused on whole plant foods, I think my hair would do way better with no-poo now :) I must ask about water quality though, where I live in UK the water is super hard - do you get that also? Would you think a shower filter would improve the nopoo experience??? Thank you so so much for this video!!!!:):):)
The way that I eat looks like raw till four and I also don't use shampoo for now two years, 😉 and I have the same brush that you are half I don't know wet the reason that I told this last one,😥. Good video by the way I truly think your help somebody with her & him Hair problems
I'm a guy haven't used shampoo or conditioner in a month it's good so far. normally could be me not using the right stuff but normally using the basic stuff my hair dosent look or feel or is moldable like I want (middle eastern hair wavy curly) also I had dandruff or dry scalp a while back now no dry scalp natrual
Thanks for sharing! Awesome video, super helpful! I was wondering how you dealt with exercising and not washing your hair afterwards. My hair gets nasty when I sweat, it curls around my face and looks unwashed. I tried "no poo" last summer with baking soda and ACV but I heard that the pH of baking soda is too high so it really isn't beneficial for your scalp or overall hair health. Right now I use a bar of soap for shampoo and wash it 2-3x a week. I want to transition, I'm just trying to take baby steps so that I don't have to deal with too much transition at once.
boring nicole Glad you liked it :) I nearly never wash my hair after exercise, even intense exercise. If anything I'll go out in the sun afterwards, but that's all. After 4 years of not using shampoo I notice no difference in my hair after exercise.
for us who live in dirty modern cities with gas fumes from cars etc will this work only with water or needed to use apple cider vinegar rinse as shampoo??
You just look so beautiful Tarah... your skin and eyes just glow with health = ) your an inspiration!! Do you get your hair cut at all or just let it grow?
Great info! I'm worried about my natural oils because I have straight, fine hair so it has absolutely no volume already. I need to know how to stop using boxed hair dye too! Ugh! 😜
How about with exercise? My scalp sweats ALOT and when I tried no poo last year, it wasn't cutting it. My hair smelled bad and was really greasy (I have naturally oily hair and skin even since going high carb high raw). I'm using just natural organic shampoo around 3x per week now, but would love to get to no poo. Any advice? Thanks in advance!!
Kathy Szczesniak I'd definitely try to transition your way out of it. You can also try the apple cider vinegar and baking soda method to clean your hair in the mean time. It took me 4 months of 100% high carb raw for my skin to begin to stop over producing oil. Sometimes it can take even longer.
Your hair is so beautiful! I have curly hair, but always straighten it. I'll give no poo a try, but can't stand oily scalp. Is it ok to wash your hair with warm water? Would it not smell?
Cutting out grains has really seemed to help my no poo journey, but at the moment I am still eating raw nuts and seeds. I also eat some sea salt and quite a bit of cooked food. I cook sweet potatoes and yams. Do you eat any any nuts/seeds or have you given them up completely? Most of my diet consists of fruit at the moment, and the more fruit I eat the better my hair and skin looks/feels. What types of fruit do you eat? Thanks!
good idea to try and take the no poo one step at a time. i have tried the cold turkey.....no can do. and tadadaaaaa im eating much more raw now so this is the right time to try it out the way u suggest. u are awesome tarah
Thank you, the video was helpful. I am currently using "soap nuts" to wash my hair, I have been doing it for about a week now, it is still oily, I need to wash it every other day, I am hoping it gets better.
Great video. Your hair looks absolutely awesome! ....So I'm deciding to fully embrace the no poo method too, after watching this I think it's time. I've been only washing my hair once a week for the past couple of years now so I think I will have a minimal "transition period". I have one question though, in between your weekly "washing", do you ever rinse your hair, say after a sweaty work out or something?
This is just great...i'm not my first week and i'm doing my beard too shampoo free. Just on question...how you use the essential oil? do you mix it with water or just drope a few drops like pura essential oil?
Eating a 100% raw foods really really will transform your hair naturally To a much more volumes and shines.I've noticed myself when I first gone 100% raw for the first 5 months my hair's so much more volumes than when I'm eating a cooked vegan.Something really miracles bout sweet fruits that would turn your hair completely bouncy with more volumes and shiny too!
Love your video! Never been able to go completely no poo. I will say that even though I can't go completely without shampooing I don't know one person who can't get to the point of only washing it once a week or once every two weeks. (I color my hair because of greys so I'm guessing that's why) I tried the coconut oil, maybe I did it wrong but it seemed to make my hair look very greasy. Is there a trick behind the coconut oil?
Quantized Thanks :) In between washings you can always rinse your hair with water. The transition can last months! I only use a small amount of coconut oil but I have much more hair than it looks like in this video. When I straighten my hair it's about 4-5 inches longer and it's pretty thick, so I think the key is using a very small amount unless you have a lot of hair
I was recommended to use j r liggets shampoo bar, it only has coconut and argon oil in it. Do you think this would be a good transition? I use a vegan shampoo at the moment was going to start using this bar and see how it goes but only use it once a week or once a fortnight ? Any thoughts?
I live in a tropical country, brazil to be more specific, which is humid and hot. So can you give me some tips about how to proceed in this method? I'm on about a week with water only, and my hair became very greasy and I'm having some hair loss issues. I'm a man by the way. And sorry for my english, but i had to ask to an american, because in my country nobody do that, there's absolutely no videos made in my native language
I'm super new to no-poo, but I read online that cold water wont strip your hair of oils but just rinse it of sweat and dirt. So what i'm doing is taking cooler/cold showers on workout days, and warm/hot showers when I really want to clean it.
Hi, I stop shampoo one month, before I use backing soda and vinager but my hair made too dry than I didn t want back shampoo, I started washing my hair only water today is 2nd time is better, but I want know when I go to swimmer pool and beach I think is not enough washing only water, please let me know what is the best for washing after beach and swimmer pool. thank you
Hi! I'm week 2 with the no poo method and fortunatelly the amount of grease has been the same since day 5 (wich is really good because it doesn't look that greasy). My question is: I'm a vegetarian which tries to eat as raw vegan as possible, do you think I will see any improvements in 4 months? By the way, great video!
I stopped using hair products over a year ago, but still wash my hair with shampoo. Seeing that you've had a positive experience encourages me to also cut out the "poo". Maybe you have answered these questions before, but out of curiosity, do you use deodorant? Nail polish? Makeup? Toothpaste? Etc... Thank you for sharing your experience. :)
Do you use anything at all on your hair or just water? I've been over a year so far no poo (water only/guy) and my hair is really long. If there's dirt I just comb it out. I also think my hair looks a bit more artsy and unique since it's not super shiny like others who uses products. I went no poo cuz I only care about the health of my hair (growing and maintaining thickness) and this method works for me. I also take multivitamins, biotin, fish oil, calcium/zinc, and recently folic acid. Folic acid was a miracle. My hair is super soft not and looks better as well. Thanks for the video!
+Jimi Hendrix Nope, just water :) I notice that my hair isn't as shiny either but I'm not overly concerned. I share your opinion in the sense that I care more about the health of my hair.
+40BelowFruity A lot of girls may have shiny washed hair, but their hair is damaged and thinning. Even some lose the hairline. I used to get chemicals in my hair over a year ago and it took off the edges of my hair, since I've been doing your method all my hair grew back.
+40BelowFruity I just saw a vinegar on apple cider vinegar. If you mix 1/2 cider vinegar with 1/2 water (some add coconut oil as well) and spray it on your scalp and hair, leave in for a few mins then rinse out your hair will be clean and shiny since it restores the ph balance of you hair. The smell goes away too.
today is day four of my no poo experience, im very much the newbie, i have naturely oily hair, after two days i have to shampoo, so here i am at four and it looks like i poured oil on my head yet its easy to brush, not much snarls, maybe i'll think of my natural oils as natural conditioner :)
Hi! I absolutley love your hair, its so Beautiful!! I have curly hair as well, and ive thought about starting going no poo. But ive read that every day you should brush it through with this "boar bristles brush" to help distribute the oils and take away dirt/dust. But like you said in the video, brushing ruins the curls!! Hehe :) Do you brush it at all inbetween washes? Do you ever feel the need to? Does that need go away if you wait it out? I would be sooo grateful for an answer :D Love your chanel!
+Anne-lie Widén. I use a wooden bristle brush and it works great for distributing the oils in my hair :) I don't brush my hair in between washes because it would be a big frizzy mess if I did! I've never been big on brushing my hair and only do it maybe twice a week when I shower.
+40BelowFruity thank u so much for the quick answear! :D what would u suggest i do if id need to distributed oils inbetween washes? is there another way to do it without the brush? :))
Hello! I am also almost 4 years into life without shampoo and I am the biggest fan! (In fact, I wrote a book about and have sold thousands which tells me there are ALOT of women wanting to give up the chemicals and regain healthy, natural hair!) xx
Lulastic Hippyshake Very true! I think that most women would rather ditch the products than have to go through that daily routine
I'm so amazed with ul, no shampoo.. I want to start today itself, p look s guide me. Thanks 😊
I have a question
You should only waterwash your hair or use some stufs once a week like bakingsoda that I've heard in some other youtube videaos or the water is enough?
I must say that apparently the transition phase can last much longer. It's been six months that I've been washing my hair with water only and just recently my hair has started to feel more like it should. There might be many reasons though why it's taken so long but anyhow I'm happy with my hair.
I'm on week 1 of Water only, wish me luck. ☆
How did it go?
How did it go?
How did it go?
It's been great. I haven't used shampoo since before my comment. The transition was rough, but now I'm very accustomed to it.
SAYA Oh Wow! That’s really great to hear! I might actually try to stop using shampoo. Have a good day!
Alright I've heard enough, I am doing this!!
you did this ? i wanna do it. how is your hair ? it works?
So you did it? Did it work?

I have to admit. By far this is my fav video for first timer, wanting to try no poo. I have watched several videos in hopes of gathering info as a first timer but most of them were just bla bla and bla. Thank you so much for getting straight to the point. Can’t wait to try...
I went shampoo free unintentionally because I'm just too damn lazy to shampoo and condition my hair lol
Hoping it balances out
YES THANK YOU!
Currently going through this transition
I LOVE IT THANK YOU THANK YOU
If brushing your hair in the shower be careful because the hot water makes your hair extra fragile so if you're also not using shampoo/conditioner, it could really damage your hair.
cold water
good! I am also trying to addapt to my natural hair's shape! not the salon looking one!
Thank you so much! This is the first video I've watched from someone who mentioned a problem with dandruff. I struggle with dandruff and an irritated scalp, and I've been hesitant to try quitting shampoo because of that. This is really inspiring, and makes me feel like I can do it :)
your hair is just amazing. I remember watching you when you just went vegan and now, what a difference
Jazmin Contreras You're welcome :) I had the same thing happen. I had straight hair almost all of my life and now it's curly and I love it!
In addition to "no hair products," I have decided to discontinue coloring my hair and letting it go gray (I'm 50 and my hair is probably 90% gray).
Lee Sybrant It really is!
Claudia Kerssemakers I have't professionally cut my hair in 2-3 years :) I cut about half an inch off maybe once a year but that's all. I'm growing my hair to my waist so I cut it as little as possible
thanks for your response! :)
ArinnMackenzie It does take time to get used to it!
I have hard water and thin fine hair. I have tried just water washing but it doesn't work. And coconut oil just makes it very greasy. So for four years I have been using baking soda and vinegar rinse. Using them I never had a transition period and my hair is healthier than it's ever been.
your hair looks gorgeous!
Thank you so much. I'm currently transitioning and it's encouraging to hear your story.
Linn Persson That's so good to hear! I agree - I actually like the smell of my hair now. It's very neutral
Great info. I am on no poo more then a year. The only problem I have is once a months that I have to color my gray/white roots. I try to eat as raw as posible 70-80% of my diet, and I still see all the benefits of the no poo method :-)
I'm doing this right now. I think is a good season to start (spring/summer) I'm so excited!
thanks for making this video.
I was terrified to try it out but after watching this I definitely got confidence to start.
Best hair care video i've seen you covered the issues many have with this method and i have found the cleaner my diet the better my hair and without using shampoo :-)
+Jazmine Hudson Glad you enjoyed it :)
Instead of baking soda I use agave syrup, best thing I ever did. Gets rid of that oily build up and doesn't make it dry like the baking soda did :p
Really??
weird I know but people were using honey with warm water so I thought fuck it i'll try agave. Actually worked oddly enough
Haha, it's quite surprising actually. How well does it work & what for?
It was just a guess as I was just going to use shampoo if it didn't. LOL. I had oily hair pretty bad. I put about 5 table spoons of agave to 10 spoons of warm water or more (didn't really measure too much. Put on my head and massaged for a few minutes, Flipped hair and did another few then rinsed. Then did the apple cider rinse. Actually surprised it worked so well
Very informative and fun video! I really enjoyed it, thank you for uploading this :)
Also, your hair is beautiful ;)
+Flaggkatten Glad you enjoyed it and thank you!
Argan* yes curly hair is different from straight or wavy hair!
Your hair is gorgeous!
I am a boy and rarely use shampoo sometimes once or twice in a month. My hair feels more happy without shampoo. 😇😇
Cool to hear your perspective as having done it for so long. I'm going to try it out for a few months at least and review it on my blog. ❤️❤️ Thanks for sharing.
I hear ya girl with frizz my hair is naturally curly and people love it but it's a pain to have curly hair
Sally Langan I still love having curly hair :) I think it's more of a pain to try to curl straight hair!
Anthea Frances Falkiner Thank you!! You'll likely notice a huge difference with eating raw!
you're glowing !!! your hair are soooo beautiful
Alizée Thank you
Love the video. I've been trying to wean myself off shampoo for awhile now. Currently I use shampoo once a week and only a vegan biodegradable kind. I'm very tempted to go cold turkey now after seeing your video. Don't know if I can do it but I will try.
+shirel fox That's an amazing start!
I think it was the most informative video on no poo I've ever seen. What about soaps for your body? Do you use any or just dry brushing before shower?
Thank you. Thank you.
Thanks,
~ Natalyn
You da woman! Tell em' sister, Namaste!
You totally inspired me to only brush my hair when it's wet!
i tried the baking soda method and didnt work as good as i hoped, ill try your way ;) thanks for sharing your experience ;)
What do you eat and where do you get protein? My scalp produces too much oil and I think it is from eating cooked/processed foods. Thank you.
gremlins 347 I get my protein from fruits and veggies :) usually around 40 grams per day.
40BelowFruity Do you have a video about what you eat on a daily basis? Thanks!
Yep :) ruclips.net/video/4lWTFHh2E3A/видео.html
Livin' Free May I ask what fruits and vegatables you eat that have the protien that you need daily?
Thanks for sharing! I tried it once but lasted only 2 weeks.. It was unbearable for me and people at school were noticing so :D
Bára Sýkorová You're welcome :) Yeah it doesn't work for everyone.
I will give it a go! Thanks!
Lindsay Leigh Enjoy :)
going to try this but with modification to my needs, I'm driving a grain truck, that means I'm covered in dirt and sweat and seed dust, grasshoppers are an evil too, so need to really get that out, am going to try a natural shampoo made by me so my hair doesn't get awfully horrible, was going to use a base of coconut oil with Castile soap (a very small amount) then oil to soften it...hope it helps those chemicals really do hurt you, I'm 50 and am experiencing memory loss right now, that shouldn't be happening, am just now learning about all the chemicals and what they do to the body, hope I can reverse some of it...worries the heck out of me!
our ancestors dont have shampoo, i stop shampoo
Also - your hair is beeeeautiful!
Lulastic Hippyshake Thank you!
amazing video!
This has been on my recommended videos for like a few days and I kept asking myself why they wanted me to watch a video about some girl talking about why she doesn't poo. The second I clicked on it I said ohhhhhh it means shampoo"
Haha! Yeah, I'm definitely not promoting a diet without having bowel movements :P
The way that I eat looks like raw till four and I also don't use shampoo for now two years, 😉 and I have the same brush that you are half
I don't know wet the reason that I told this last one,😥. Good video by the way I truly think your help somebody with her & him Hair problems
Immortal vegan Amazing!
😄
I'm a guy haven't used shampoo or conditioner in a month it's good so far. normally could be me not using the right stuff but normally using the basic stuff my hair dosent look or feel or is moldable like I want (middle eastern hair wavy curly) also I had dandruff or dry scalp a while back now no dry scalp natrual
I love that you say "hell" or "shit" lolol it's wonderful cause I do the same :)
40BelowFruity That's crazy! I definitely want to get to that point, but I'm probably going to wait til winter. Thanks!
It takes time :)
I think this is awesome! I am defensively going to start washing my hair less! What do you do after exercise?? :)
Rachel Waite I just leave my hair after exercise or maybe run a little water through it
Oh okay! Thanks :)
Rachel Waite sweat also helps to "clean" your scalp, the more you sweat, the cleaner it will come out, and then you rinse it out with water.
That's great to know! Thank you Gina Butron ! :)
GORGEOUS 🤩
for us who live in dirty modern cities with gas fumes from cars etc will this work only with water or needed to use apple cider vinegar rinse as shampoo??
+tassaras24 That's a little different I believe.
You just look so beautiful Tarah... your skin and eyes just glow with health = )
your an inspiration!!
Do you get your hair cut at all or just let it grow?
Jussayn cauzz Thank you so much :) I am letting my hair grow down to my waist or perhaps even longer. I won't cut my hair again :)
Great info! I'm worried about my natural oils because I have straight, fine hair so it has absolutely no volume already. I need to know how to stop using boxed hair dye too! Ugh! 😜
Autumn L. You'll look beautiful no matter what. I mean that for anyone and everyone.
Autumn L. no poo actually tends to give hair more volume x
40BelowFruity Good to know, thanks!!
Erika Flores soap nut, shikakai, amla powder.
Thank you for this video! Your hair looks lovely. :)
Thanks, my hair is short maybe I was using too much
Oh yes you only need a tiny amount like a dime worth
I was recommended to use j r liggets shampoo bar, it only has coconut and argon oil in it. Do you think this would be a good transition? I use a vegan shampoo at the moment was going to start using this bar and see how it goes but only use it once a week or once a fortnight ? Any thoughts?
I live in a tropical country, brazil to be more specific, which is humid and hot. So can you give me some tips about how to proceed in this method? I'm on about a week with water only, and my hair became very greasy and I'm having some hair loss issues.
I'm a man by the way. And sorry for my english, but i had to ask to an american, because in my country nobody do that, there's absolutely no videos made in my native language
what if you work out during the week... you still only shower once a week?
exactly my thoughts
you just wash your hair more often.
summer robson wash twice a week works for me
I'm super new to no-poo, but I read online that cold water wont strip your hair of oils but just rinse it of sweat and dirt. So what i'm doing is taking cooler/cold showers on workout days, and warm/hot showers when I really want to clean it.
what do you think about using coconut oil for your hair or skin?
Charis Pax I use it on both my hair and skin and for oil pulling. I love it!
40BelowFruity how do you do your oil pulling? I tried it twice, and it feels so NASTY to me, can´t keep the oil in my mouth without gagging.
I didn't like it at first but I got used to it and my teeht look better than ever!
How many minutes do you use on it? Do you mix the coconut oil with anything else (mint for example)? :) Thanks for your quick replies!
I do it for 20 minutes :) I'll do a video on this soon!
I'd love to try this, great tips!

my vEgan life I've got an updated beauty routine video ruclips.net/video/WKdSaUNdAM0/видео.html
The smell goes away too.
today is day four of my no poo experience, im very much the newbie, i have naturely oily hair, after two days i have to shampoo, so here i am at four and it looks like i poured oil on my head yet its easy to brush, not much snarls, maybe i'll think of my natural oils as natural conditioner :)
just made some rose water myself actually to spray it
Hi, do you have to shower your hair for a long time with water?
I haven't had the need to after being "no poo" for years!
+40BelowFruity oh okay, thanks for the reply! youre awesome :))
