Sindhi Majun/ Majoon

Majun mithai is a dryfruit and khoya based Sindhi Mithai. The recipe varies from family to family. Some use sugar syrup, some use milk and sugar, some use whole wheat flour, and so on. This is also called winter dessert. A very healthy option, full of nutrients and immunity boosting properties. This mithai has a good shelf-life, so a very good option for long trips.

I have crushed the dryfruits into powder, so that my daughter can have it without any issues. You can chop or crush them as per choice. Do try this delicious Sindhi Mithai and let me know if you like it.

Sindhi Majun
Preparation Time - 15 minutes
Cooking Time - 15 minutes
Serves - 800 grams approx
INGREDIENTS
➡️ Dry Dates - 2 cups
➡️ Cashew - 1 cup
➡️ Almonds - 1 cup
➡️ Walnuts - 1 cup
➡️ Dry coconut - 1/4 cup
➡️ Gond/Edible Gum - 2 tbsp
➡️ Cardamom Powder - 2 tbsp
➡️ Poppy Seeds /Khaskhas - 2 tbsp
➡️ Oil - 2-3 tbsp
➡️ Ghee - 2-3 tbsp
➡️ Sugar - 1/2 cup
➡️ Water - 1/2 cup
➡️ Khoya - 100 grams ( unsweetened)

Steps
➡️ Crush all the dryfruits or chop them as per choice.
➡️ Boil together sugar and water until sugar melts. We don't need thick chashni.
➡️ Add half oil and ghee and fry find until becomes like popcorn. Crush them and keep aside.
➡️ In the same pot add remaining oil and ghee, cook khoya on low flame until turns golden brown.
➡️ Add all dryfruits, coconut, cardamom and poppy seeds ( soaked in water for 10 minutes), mix everything well.
➡️ Add crushed gond and mix it well.
➡️ Add sugar syrup in 2 batches and mix well. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
➡️ Set in a greased pan or plate, garnish with dryfruits and rose petals.

Being a sindhi, I can say this is not a proper recipe. Maajun is made with Milk & Mawa combined. It’s not made with sugar syrup at all.
We Sindhis prepare this Maajun (it’s not a mithai) during winters coz it’s loaded with dry fruits / nuts and bcoz it’s made with Milk & mawa the shelf life is considerably good. It is not eaten as mithai rather its consume as a Khorak which gives us some heat during peak winters !

Sindhi recipes are simply awesome very few people know that original vada pav and pav bhaji has been invented by Sindhis. They are from mohenjo daro civilization father of all food invention today.

@@Msmenka123 atleast for a month if stored in a air tight container and cool dry place. May be longer .
Yes you can prepared in Milk & it’s shelf life after adding milk is nearly 12-15 days. Sindhis don’t make this in sugar syrup at all !
