UPDATE: I am longer using these nibs because they caused my reMarkable Marker to fail after about five months. Details are available in this video: ruclips.net/video/uMcJA8ujr_g/видео.html

Why is everyone talking about screen damage? This is not the issue. The issue is "Does the tip cause long-term damage to pressure sensitivity?"

Interesting. Where can I learn more about this?

@BrandonKBoswell Check out the series (5 parts) called ""Are Metal Nibs safe..." on "The Seven Pens". He is a professional graphic artist who did a 6 month+ impressively-detailed experiment using graphics tablets and WACOM pens. He concluded that he could not detect any damage to his screen (parts 1 to 4), but in the last video (part 5) he realised that the pressure sensitivity was permanently damaged. His colleague also experienced the same problem. He goes into detail about how the metal stem material may be damaging the pressure sensor component inside the pen.
This is the only place I have found that raises this issue.
Until I learn more about this issue, I am recommending that my students DO NOT use a metal nib on their S pen.

I think that the damage to the pressure sensitivity occurs because the nib comes into contact with the magnet that generates the electromagnetic field. This contact causes wear on the magnet, which in turn prevents the sensor from detecting the magnetic field as effectively as before.

Just a personal experience. Have got my titanium nibs and actually scratched the Remarkable at some point for a reason. It just happened in a particular time-frame of a few days, not it doesn't happen anymore, but unfortunately has scratched the screen a little.

Just wondering. How does the writing experience of titanium nibs on the reMarkable compare to the HoM pen on the Supernote? I'm asking because I hear that the HoM on Supernote is more like writing with a pen on paper, which I would prefer to the pencil on paper feel of the reMarkable but since I've changed to titanium nibs on the reMarkable (after watching this video), I quite like it. Don't want to buy a Supernote and be disappointed but don't want to stick with the reMarkable and find I've missed out on a better writing experience... I realise you don't enjoy the Supernote feel.

Hi Brandon & everyone, thank you very much for your video! Would you reckon your tests apply also when used with a Tab X (I have had the NA3C for a couple of weeks and noticed the screen has a different texture - I have also noticed that you do not use any extra protecting films in your tests, unless I am mistaken contrary to pieces of advice you see on Reddit for instance... What is your take perhaps on the film protectors as well especially when using a TX perhaps as well...)? Thank you so much for your invaluable comments and tests! 🙂🙏

    • @BrandonKBoswell

So far so good for me. I would just avoid taking them in and out unnecessarily. They are a more snug fit. From what I've seen they appear compatible with most stylus (other than the Kaweco, it just won't fit due to the narrower barrel).

The writing sound is louder than the cardboard tips, but not enough to be distracting. I don't find that it has a noticeable tap sound on the screen.

I have followed you, Kit and Voja and I like you channels a lot.
I see that Kit swears to Ultra C. Myself I have the reMarkable and a 12,9 iPad. The feel of quality and the e ink is very compelling to me. The leather folio with the reMarkable makes it very premium. How is the feel with the ultra C? I use the reMarkable at work, going to a lot of metnings and the reMarkable does not take away the personal one to one feeling of a PC in the meeting.
I like that the ultra C can collaborate with office 365, but not the design and feel. (Without ever used a ultra C) What is RUclips thoughts?

I would say you need to figure out the time and scenario you would use the Tab Ultra C, without that I can't recommend buying it if you already have a reMarkable. I think the Ultra C can make a lot of sense for someone who is trying to avoid owning an iPad and a reMarkable and is willing to make some tradeoffs to make that happen.

  • @allanwilson8642

Thanks for doing this but guys, it’s a matter of physics and chemistry -titanium WILL eventually scratch and damage the surface of your glass screen. In engineering there is something called the Mohrs scale of hardness. Glass is 5 and titanium is 6. It’s not a question of if, but when it will cause damage.
People saying oh, I have been using it for x months and all good’….etc sooner or later it will eventually cause damage. Person A could be pressing slightly lighter than person B for instance, person B would see damage say after 4 months and person A after 6 months for example.
It’s why train wheels are intentionally made softer than the tracks that they ride on as it’s easier to replace them vs hundreds of miles of tracks.
Ceramics can be even worse! Certain compounds can be almost twice the hardness rating, up to 9 on the scale vs 5 for glass.
It’s a trade off, using cardboard nibs on glass. If you don’t press so hard you can make them last longer. Some people report up to 6 months and even more on one nib. Small price to pay, I think…
Manufacturers in China will make them (ceramic and titanium nibs) because people will buy them, simple economics 😊

    • @BrandonKBoswell
      @BrandonKBoswell  4 месяца назад +1

Your physics are on point, but in practice under normal circumstances it’s not proving to be a major factor. What is proving to be a major factor is the wear on the internals of the stylus itself.
