I DO NOT OWN, NOR CLAIM TO OWN, ANY COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS IN THIS VIDEO. ALL COPYRIGHTED WORKS BELONG TO THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS, THIS VIDEO HOWEVER BELONGS TO ME.
What do you guys think of me doing more videos like this?
Wouldnt mind you revisiting this topic. Also, you should do one on various artists compilations.
I agree with the other guy. You should do one on various artists compilations. I also wouldn't mind a part two to this video. Definitely make a Guitar Hero video also (maybe make it about how people get into artists and bands, thanks to said artists and bands being in video game soundtracks)
Love Halford with the long hair at 7:31!
Also, no Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Best of?
I quite like Queen Greatest Hits and The Beatles: One. Those are my favorite Greatest Hits albums
Beatles one is great
I think a best of album makes sense when:
1. you want to get into a band.
2. a band has a lot of hits, but few albums that keep a consistent level.
3. the artist has/had a long career and this offers a good overview of the relevant part of his career.
4. a certain era can be represented with it.
A good Best of album is Queen Greatest Hits I, I got it for Christmas in high school. Excellent for getting into the band and it has many of their iconic songs from the 70s/early 80s. I think every Queen album is worth listening to, but the songs vary in quality. Bohemian Rapsody overshadows I'm in Love with My Car for example, which is why I find it fitting with Queen
A bad best of is Guns N Roses Greatest Hits. I would rather hear Appetite for Destruction as a whole, but not together with the awful Sympathy for the Devil cover. In general Guns N Roses has only 3 good albums (G N R Lies is okay, I like You're Crazy as an acoustic version morethan the Appetite for Destruction Version), so there is no need for a best of.
Last problem: Studio albums are organically put together, Best of is just a string of songs. Some bands change their style too much to create a coherent album from different periods.
Good Video and Topic :D
PS: I also started with Motörhead with a best of: The Best of (double album).
The thing that pissed me off about about GnR's greatest hits is how censored it was.
@@ScoopedMids Yeah...just a lame cashgrab :/
The essential Ozzy Osbourne
And the beast of dio and nirvana icon were my first look into those bands and I’ve love the bands ever since
Black Sabbath: Greatest Hits 1970-1978 will always hold a special place in my heart for me replaying it to kingdom come and knowing the order on it in my bones.
It along with Rush Gold, Judas Priest Essentials, Ozzy Osbourne Essentials, The Beast of Dio, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, Alice Cooper: Mascara and Monsters, Iron Maiden: From Fear to Eternity and Aerosmith Gold were great jumping on points for fans interested in the bands, but too poor to really buy many CDs. Eventually you grow, you check out the full length LPs... but the fandom, for me, often began here (and in some cases, Guitar Hero)
You just reminded me. I need to make a guitar hero video at some point.
@@ScoopedMids please do that.
In terms of greatest hits albums, the absolute best I’ve come across is “The Very Best Of The Stone Roses”.
It always annoyed me when I saw "Best Of" albums on lists of the greatest albums ever, like when Rolling Stone put Bob Marley's "Legend" as one of the 500 greatest albums ever. That is a good "best of" though.
Yeah, that's dumb lol.
I may or may not have a few. Lol. Back then I discovered artists through radio, friends and vh1. These days I'll just pick some songs that have interesting titles on RUclips and see if I like them enough to buy a cd.
12:42 acid bath when the kite string pops fucking great album
Now I'm legit curious to hear your thoughts on unreleased material, more specifically fan-made bootlegs, mixtapes, comps etc of unreleased songs. It's becoming a trend in mainstream hip-hop, especially with deceased artists, to have unreleased material galore on the internet and for fans to arrange, master and imagine the album their own way. Some bands like Slowdive and the Beach Boys also have the material and the fanbase to make their own conceptual visions of what an album would have sounded like.
It's only vaguely related to this video in terms of topic, but I do think it's one worth looking into.
That's not a bad idea. In general they gross me out, but I'm sure there's some good ones out there.
Purple Rain
Don't do that to yourself.
You don't deserve it.
Great video! What's your opinion on the Misfits Collection albums? Since I noticed you had it in the video. Personally, they're the only greatest hits albums I've gotten recently, and I think they're great because they have songs that were only on EP's, and they have a great selection of songs by the band, so I'm wondering what you're opinion is?
It's good. But, I don't like that Glenn overdubbed guitars and fucked with the mixes. It's a good place to start if you want to start listening to the misfits though.
@@ScoopedMids Yeah, that's the glaring problem with it. I actually started with those compilations earlier this year. I plan on getting Static Age at some point (I listened to it on Spotify a few times as well as the rest of their albums, it's just I like Static Age the most). Oh, and thanks for responding! I've really been enjoying your videos this past year and I think you deserve way more subs. You put a lot of effort into your videos, and that's what makes me like them.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
Good video
It's relict of the past like internet cafe or my will to live
love it! companies that put out greatest hits comps can make some laughable choices. a personal fav from my own collection was a Portuguese comp of Louis Armstrong that never got the memo that he was the trumpet player! every song had the same moment when Satchmo's verses ended and just as he fired up the trumpet solo, the song would fade out. otoh, I have a Spanish comp of Small Faces that works because it cherry picks the best tracks from 3 albums that have a ton of filler tracks. and the photo of the band on the front cover is hilarious.
It's a pain when an artist/band has albums on multiple labels. That hinders the possibility of a compilation with a good overview of their career. Like there has only been one Motörhead Best of with a few tracks from the albums after March or Die. That's sad, honestly.
I Understand You because Weezers Six hits Doesn't Have Undone-The Sweater Song On It
Let's see I've got Greatest and Compilations from
Billy Idol
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
New Kids on the Block
Mudhoney
Scorpions
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Beach Boys
Joan Jett
I'd say the best 3 I own are Soundgarden A Sides, AiC Best of the Box, and Billy Idol's Greatest Hits.
to be far at least there's nothing from the doctor on that cheap trick essentials.
The opening line reminded me of Scott the Woz.
I literally cribbed it from him lol. This whole video is kind of a homage to him.
Why would you break a Cheap Trick CD??
for teh lols
Green Day has sucked with everything after Dookie (American Idiot was like paint by numbers radio rock) and Blink 182 were a better looking Green Jellö, a bunch of guys writing satire songs but the difference was Green Jellö legit walked the walk. We all see what Blink is. 👎
Ok grandpa, let's put you to bed.
*Reissue, repackage, reevaluate the songs ...*
