Greetings from America . . . as a descendant of enslaved Blacks in the US, your presentation and brief history of Black women's contribution to craft of quilting was ABSOLUTE OUTSTANDING! Thank you for recognizing their talents. . . and you ROCKED their style!
U am late posting but just wanted you to know it's beautiful I also researched Gees Bend ladies and they made gorgeous quilts with little or nothing "rags"! I learned from helping my mom make quilts! I had no play time like my cousins did and I used to regret it as a young girl. Now I am the only one living that makes quilts for my family. During Covid days of shut ins, I made 32 adult size and 14 baby quilts with the help of God Almighty! Thank you for sharing!
Love their story and I’m going to do my version of Gees Bend. I’m so happy you chose to do this video . This quilt is beautiful but everything you create is and very inspiring. Keep it up Karen!
You nailed it Karen ,and it came together so organically aswell , when you were laying it out it just seemed to come to life amazing. ... John in Massachusetts USA
Beautiful quilt. It looks like the original ideas you showed us. It must be difficult to put together against what is done today, think you did a great job
What an interesting quilt. Never heard of this type of quilting. Will definite research this and you have inspired me to make one also. Your quilt is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Another wonderful turorial Karen❤
Beautiful, I have read their book. What a beautiful story. I don't know if you could duplicate their beauty. But your quilts are awesome. Love watchingyour videos.
I love it. I am going to make one. Using mostly bold colors makes it work so beautifully. I am a modern quilter and even though this is a two hundred year old pattern type it appeals to me.
Gee's Bend is named after Joseph Gee, a wealthy landowner who came from North Carolina and established a cotton plantation in 1816 with seventeen slaves. Three decades later, the plantation was sold to Mark H. Pettway, whose surname is still carried by some of the residents.
