It's more like the opposite. One of the things about depressed people is that they have limited neurogenesis, which means they become incapable of forming new thoughts so their mind basically get stuck in a loop they can't get out of. They become more or less incapable of accepting new thoughts, they only accept thoughts that conform to ideas they already have. Why this happens nobody knows. But that's what medication tries to do, basically kickstart neurogenesis. But without it being combined with therapy/spiritual guidance they'll just create new depressing thoughts, so they'll need someone to guide them in order to form more positive ideas going forward.

It's as if everyone is consciously AVOIDING getting angry just to prove the video wrong about them. Even the "angry" comments you see here aren't actually angry. They're just jokes poking fun at anger, itself. Hell, even trolling is virtually nonexistent! That is, I barely see ANYONE in the comments saying anything that's INTENDED to bait other people into angry arguments. I only see "pretend trolls" here, which are basically just people who are PRETENDING to be trolls and have no real intention of instigating angry responses as real trolls would. *The title of this video should be called "Reverse Psychology" because that's exactly what it is -- getting people to avoid anger by telling them they will be angry.*

Other people thought of it long before Dawkins did. In fact, at least one guy, a year before Dawkins, described it in his writings. A guy named Cloak. Dawkins stealing other people's ideas is nothing new.
+Kelly Corless which is what he's talking about pretty much in this video (meme from in the more general, internet-based societal phenomenon, not just pepe and grumpy cat)
The very idea of a meme is that ideas really can't be "stolen" as opposed to "shared" if things like that happen. I'm not sure if Dawkins legitimately stole the idea or put his own take on it, but he made a meme out of describing memes if it was the latter.
And the biggest issues with the theory of memetics are: No physical, measurable explanation for the proposed phenomenon The mutability of thoughts are such that a stable descent is not possible, and thoughts mix in ways not applicable to reproduction/genetics/population curves. (If they were, a human could mate with a fly, and get a cow) Folkloristics and other such fields make models and setups more comprehensible and useful than those proposed after Dawkins's memetics
Paradox? You got angry when you didn't get angry - therefore, you're not angry, but you are regardless? Or therefore, you're angry, but you really are not angry? ...I'm confused.
@@Tulpen23 That could be the very reason - since there's literally nothing to get angry about in the video, the title becomes false clickbait, and people might dislike for that.
@steve another thing I heard is that disliking is a guaranteed way to get RUclips to stop reccomending a video, so if someone keeps getting reccomended it but dont want to watch it they just click dislike
+StrontiumMercury He wants to avoid it because although what he's talking about is what "meme" was coined to mean, it has come to more commonly mean "picture with added text for lulz", and he didn't want to make people think he was *only* talking about that kind of meme.
Remember the words of the Emperor: An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded. Happiness is a delusion of the weak. Blessed is the mind too small for doubt. Truth is Subjective. To Question is to doubt. Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
Wow. This is very eye opening. For example: If anyone says ABORTION, the comment sections blow up! The country is split 50/50 on it, and enrages people
@Jessica Channing And just to make it worse, the country is actually split about 2/3 to 1/3 in various seemingly contradictory ways depending on the exact phrasing of the question, allowing everyone to increase the strength of their “thought germ” by claiming the right of the majority.
excellent way of summarizing the "us or them" mentality! I do my best to reject that one when I see it in the wild (while tempering my anger as best I can that someone almost pulled me into their blindness), but as happened at least one time recently, it is sometimes incredibly difficult to take a third option.
Now did CGP Grey make this video due to the dress debate, because he says that it takes him forever to make a video. Or did he predict the dress debate. Or did CGP Grey start the dress debate to make this video inherently relevant. It's official, CGP Grey has become the internet, and actually controls everything we see and post. CONFIRMED.
It is actually a 'biological' (neurological/psychological) theory invented by evolotional biologist Richard Dawkins. The units are called 'memes' in analogy to genes.
Coming back to this video in 2021 has me letting out a long, mirthless, depressed laugh. Oh my gods we have seen this get cranked into the stratosphere in the past couple years, haven't we? ._.
I wrote my thesis based on Dawkin's meme theory about how ideas basically spread and reproduce like living organisms, especially in the context of fictional characters. But then my lecturer was religious and did not agree with evolution and Dawkins in general, so my thesis didn't score very well. The way our brains work is really extremely illogical and ineffective.
Our brains can't be that illogical if we are the top of the food chain and can reproduce quite effectively. Which is the entire point of life, to stay on top and make more humans.
Michael Wade There are countless ways to stay on top of the competition, intelligence is just one of them and logic is only one of the functions our brain has. We humans may be very effective organisms, but horseshoe crabs, sponges, sharks, dragonflies and many other animals have lived for hundreds of millions of years without needing anywhere as much brain power. In fact the greatest organisms are probably microbes, they will outlive all macro organisms and will most definitely hitch hike on human spaceships and spread throughout the universe in the future. But then again if I go back to the idea of memes being living things, our ideas, fictional characters and other memes have already been broadcast and spread across the galaxy for the past 100 years by radio.
Wow people that don't believe in evolution are still hired in that position? Jeez. I'm a theist, but I have never doubted evolution. When ALL the evidence is there for one thing, and little to none for an opposing thing, I'm gonna go with the former thing.
***** No I'm actually not trolling at all, I can send you my thesis if you want. I don't think trolls usually put their faces on the internet. If this actually goes out of control I can probably just close the entire thread.
The thing is, it DOENST make me think republicans and democrats. My views are a bit more radical left so it makes me think neo-fascists vs socialists That’s kind of the point. It’s a universal human behavior within any subculture.
@Jace Wright I'm not certain DC vs Marvel holds the same power as the other, where people sharing the same viewpoint will willfully gather to exchange their thoughts about how bad the opposing group really is, it's mostly frontal (and frankly, cheerful) confrontations. Apart from a lack of importance (except for some rare individuals), the problem with this specifics memes is that both sides aren't mutually exclusive, and in any given conversation, you'll have a great chance to encounter people appreciating both without falling in some kind of middle ground fallacy. This could theoretically also be true for playground kids, but reliance on black or white fallacies and rejection fear will be a lot more effective in this context. I also really think that the most successful anger memes draw a lot of power from a feeling of threat, that there is a clear possibility for this confrontation to go either way, and that if the opposing side somehow manages to win (even temporarily), you will lose something important. Hence why people here will think first about Liberals vs Conservatives rather than Anarchy vs State.

I swear, the comments for this video are some of the CALMEST and happiest I've ever seen for any RUclips comments section.

I also thought there was an unusual amount of intelligence and optimism in these comments. A welcome change for sure!

he's literally just described Richard Dawkins' original definition of 'meme'
Other people thought of it long before Dawkins did. In fact, at least one guy, a year before Dawkins, described it in his writings. A guy named Cloak.
Dawkins stealing other people's ideas is nothing new.
+GreyWolfLeaderTW I'm just referring to the fact that Dawkins coined the term 'meme'
And the biggest issues with the theory of memetics are:
No physical, measurable explanation for the proposed phenomenon
The mutability of thoughts are such that a stable descent is not possible, and thoughts mix in ways not applicable to reproduction/genetics/population curves. (If they were, a human could mate with a fly, and get a cow)
Folkloristics and other such fields make models and setups more comprehensible and useful than those proposed after Dawkins's memetics

Instructions unclear, i'm not angry.
But then again if I go back to the idea of memes being living things, our ideas, fictional characters and other memes have already been broadcast and spread across the galaxy for the past 100 years by radio.
your lecturer rejected your theses because he was evolution denialist ?
jesus fuck, man, the empire is crumbling quicker than i thought.
