    Thank you Tiffany for eliminating my stress over collecting and owing a service tax for my state.. I am an owner operated business working part time that does not make more or much more than what a minimum wage person working full time at 40 hours makes in a week! Super helpful !!!

    Thank you for the video. Very helpful.
    But truth be told, all these bureaucratic over each state and their Nexus Laws is overwhelming. I just want to be able to focus on building my business. How do I mitigate this issue, because I do not want to have to learn about each and ever state and their different Sales Tax structure?

      @@bastianaccounting hi... I'm an online reseller, our suppliers/manufacturers handle Shipping... And none of our suppliers charge any sales tax either to customers directly or to resellers... So since our suppliers do not charge any sales tax, Do I as a reseller still need to charge Sales tax to my customers?
      Also, I'm confused about the physical Nexus.. They have their own warehouses throughout the US and they initiate and handle the shipping themselves... The warehouses are not ours... So, the location of their warehouses would be considered a physical Nexus for me( as a reseller)?

    I have a question about sales tax regarding photography. What if you are charging the client by the hour and not per image? Like Charge $150 per hour and the images just come with this. This happens alot in event photography. I live in Alabama.

      It depends on what you sell how much and what states you ship to... google economic nexus that will open up a lot of info if you ship to other states.

    Thank you for this information! What if you are hired by another photographer as a contractor to assist in a wedding photoshoot? The hiring photographer will be the one charging for the end result and will provide the printed and efiles to their client. I am simply assisted, do I charge sales tax for my service as contractor?

    Hi, When filing sales tax under the line where it says your Gross sales with out the sale tax, do you put in the gross sales of the state you live in or is it the gross sales of all the states you do sales in plus the one I live in.
    Thank You

    Can i just include sales tax to my services? And if so, how do I pay that portion of the sales tax to the state? I live in NYS. Currently, what I do is just add the sales tax to my services and send a check to the state quarterly using qbo.

    • @bastianaccounting
      @bastianaccounting  2 года назад

      You first need to register with NY state for a sales tax certificate, then based on the zip code of your customers you will charge sales tax, then you will report to NY on the schedule they give you. You will file a report online that will calculate what you owe each period. You have to be aware of what you are selling if it is taxable in NY as well. There are lots of good resources here and videos for you www.tax.ny.gov/bus/st/stidx.htm

      Sales tax is imposed by your state and it depends on what you do and when they tell you to file, It is important to know that states also have income tax .. and yes there is also federal income tax. I teach about all the taxes in my course www.totaltaxtransformation.com

    I am failing to understand a basic thing I think. Is the Nexsus Idea only applyed to online cross state sales? If a customer buys in my Brick and mortar store in sate A and asks for the products to be shipped to state B, do I charge the sales tax of the state A or B ?

    • @bastianaccounting
      @bastianaccounting  2 года назад

      Nexus is when the state imposes dales tax. It depends on if you live in and origin or destination based state.. where you charge the ses tax. In most cases if they comento your store having brick and mortar creates nexus so you charge the rate ofbwhere your storenis locatiled..

      @@bastianaccounting so if I have a NY store, someone comes in and buys an item that will be shipped from the manufacturer to his house in NJ ( let's say we do have Nexus there because we sell over 100K to there) - what sales tax should we charge and report? Ny or NJ? thank you!!!

    • @bastianaccounting
      @bastianaccounting  2 года назад

      Most likely NJ since you have economic nexus but please call both NY and NJ and get guidance for your particular situation from them so you are confident as you move forward. I call states for my clients all the time that is the best thing to do when it is not entirely clear

    Can we get a refund for our sales tax we spend at the end of the year

    • @bastianaccounting
      @bastianaccounting  Год назад +1

      The sales tax you spend? You can deduct the sales tax you pay, but you have to keep every receipt for the whole year, and it has to be a certain amount to make it work not taking the standard deduction.
