Thanks! A word of caution for anyone doing this. When removing the heat sink: DO NOT rock it back and forth too much as the screw mounting on the bottom side can hit the tiny diode array chips. Use a plastic tool to pry up on the sides of the heat sink. Warming it does help with this. I now have a Gamecube with a damaged diode. :( Way too tiny to fix.

Here's a tip if your GameCube doesn't have serial Port 2 you can still solder the SD2SP2 directly to the points on the board in the same way that you did the mod chip, it's not that much more work than installing picoboot on it's own and it is definitely worth the faster loading speeds that you get compared to the memory card which can stutter on some games.
Nice video, mate. I am currently sitting here and follow your guide to fit my picoboot into my gamecube. Love the stand mount bracket, thanks for sharing!
just did this mod, very easy and no problems, also while i was in there did the pluto 2 hdmi mod, and i pulled a trace off the board but found where i'd mesed up and ran a jumper wire. the dfference is night and day just be careful removing the digital port. Great video btw👍 Oh got all my bits from Zedlabz great site, still some more bits to do thinking a headphope jack a usb c power supply an a cutom paint job did the controller port leds aswell not sure if im gonna get the blueretro board as well.
Nice job Joe. I've got a couple of GCs that I've fitted with Xeno modchips but I like the look of this Rpi Pico mod a lot. Think I'll have a go myself. Great video mate. 👍
It's been absolutely fine, not had any issues at all. That said, I don't use this console as much as, say, my Switch and Xbox but it's had plenty of hours' play time with no issues.
all the way back in the days of the ViperGC, they just bent the piece you moved to get the file in out of the way, all the way to the top, and put the chip on the side of the fan as you did. it's not a crucial piece of the shielding, so I just broke mine off by fatiguing.
I can't boot to swiss for some reason but booted before I had to cut wires down a little more but for some reason it keeps booting to the GameCube menu now
Late question, I know. If you drag it .uf2 file into the Raspberry Pi Pico, is it supposed to have the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message on Mac Books? Because everytime I renter it, the .UF2 file is nowhere on the root of the Pico chip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nice one Joe. I followed Tito's video at the weekend but very interested to see your take on it. What guage wire did you use? I used 30 AWG but have since noticed that webhdx recommends 26 AWG min for 3V3 and GND. I've not had any issues but may redo mine like yours.
@@JoeBleeps Good to know. It always looks thicker in the videos 🙂. I liked the shorter wires and plastic mount that you used. It gives it a professional looking finish.

Is there any way to move/copy/erase memory card game saves with this mod? Maybe one day the picoboot will work like GC loader does and we'll have the option to get into the old GC menu on boot...
Yea wire gauge will be helpful to know. A lot of people on a GC fb group have said 30AWG to me, I bought a 6 wire ribbon cable but on my install found it far too difficult to work with and the insulation just melted anywhere near the iron. Think it also messed up the MX chip on my GC so I’ve uninstalled it all after 4 hours of wasting my time and thinking I’ve screwed one of my 3 spare JP cubes (baring in mind I’ve recalled the two of the optical drives with no issues and got them repaired). Also, what do you have to strip such small 30AWG wire? Do I need to spend another £20 on some new wire strippers!?
The reason I'm such a fan of this stuff is that I can strip it with my finger and thumbnail, saves a lot of hassle and never weakens the wire. I'll pop out to my shed and check what wire it is. It was in a brown box with holes in, lots of different colour reels lined up inside and wires fed out of the holes
@@JoeBleeps yea I’ve seen those on Amazon and wasn’t sure whether to get a box of 30AWG or 28AWG, but also see ZedLabz are now selling kits with 6cm lengths. But I have 3 picos I’ve bought to do so it’ll get used lol

i saw this on many Fan Mods. Why is the Fan in Wrong Position? The Fan should blow fresh Air into the Console, right? And the Heat should blow on the other side out. But every Fan i see in Videos suck the Heat inside out. But the smaller Fan, like Noctua Mod with 40mm has not the power to suck the fresh Air from the other side of the Console, the long way from heatsink of the console to the fan and Blow it out. Its better to blow the fresh Air direct into the Console. I have now from 50 Celcius down to 45 Celcius after i changed that.
