      No need to rush into a big boy. Get yourself acclimated to caring for them and everything they need. After a year or so, you can look into the giant and super giant genetics. I have one myself, and he's such an amazing little bud! He's 190 grams and I'm about to change his enclosure to bioactive.

    We just got a leopard gecko a couple weeks ago and we are so grateful for these videos! They’ve been invaluable for my daughter and me. One other thing we wish we’d known is that sometimes the leopard geckos won’t eat for awhile when you first bring them home. 11. Not all leopard geckos like being pets.
    This may be more of a 10.5, but it’s true. Some leopard geckos just do NOT LIKE being handled… or looked at… or being visible to people. I have a wonderful classroom gecko, so I decided I wanted a second. He is what I term a “ghost gecko” - he hates interacting with me. Five months in, I had him finally accepting food from tongs… and then I had to move his tank, and now I’m back to square 1. I have barely handled him because he dislikes it so much… he was 2.5 years old when I got him from a good breeder, and it looks like getting him comfortable with being a beloved pet may be a long term project!

    I've had 3 bearded dragons (my wife has had 4, as she had one before we met).
    We've had a leopard gecko for 2 years, as my neighbor, who owns/owned several reptiles and a parrot, had to get rid of a few of them, and my wife and I were blessed to have gotten a leopard gecko, who is absolutely beautiful and wonderful. Also, he is hand-fed 99% of the time, but I digress.
    I've learned to different male and female bearded dragons (particularly if they're adult). I do not, however, know how to tell the difference between adult geckos. Is there any way that a layman, such as myself, can tell the difference between a male and female gecko? More specifically, a leopard gecko?
    I would greatly appreciate any tips or resources that you can recommend!

    My leopard gecko Lizzie (that I have had for years btw) 😂 I did TONS of research before getting her but somehow did not know that you had to take them when you got them😂😢 so of course after I got her settled in I went to hold her and OF COURSE!!!! I got a leopard gecko that screams!! Haha I like to have had a heart attack! But lesson learned and she loves to be handled now!!!❤

    One thing I'd like to know, is it ok for them to cohabitate? My parents made me get 2 when i was getting 1 because they "didn't want it to die, because they get lonely" but recently I keep seeing that they shouldn't be cohabitated, so now i feel really bad, and I don't have another tank if I do need to seperate them, I mean they're both females and they seem to get along just fine, but I want to give them the best lives possible, and I'm starting to worry that I'm not doing the best job, because i don't want them to be stressed, I've had them for around 2 months now and their names are El and Max, I really love them and i just want the best for them
    Edit: I also feel the need to mention that they both eat really well, i give them 10-12 mealworms every other day and they seem like a good weight, pretty chubby, not skinny, but not obese, along with the fact that the lady at the pet store told me i have to use this fake little grass mat thing while they're babies cause they'd accidentally eat soil or whatever, which means she didn't really know what she was talking about, and now i feel the need to get them some soil and possibly a heat lamp

    My 2 geckos I have Hate having dirt like stuff in their tank haha I had their tanks when I first got them half flat with paper towels and half with a safe dig type stuff and they would refuse to go on the half of the tank with the dig stuff xD eventually I took it out entirely and got this reusable plastic flooring, now they like to run around and watch me come near their cages😂

    Mine will only eat blue hornworms, I tried giving him waxworms, superworms, mealworms, crickets(most of which live in his tank with him). Lol I gave up trying to force him to eat other stuff,
    Weird on the no shoulder thing, mine has attempted an angel dive off me once, since has learned t just go into my Hoodie, pampered little king loves his walks

      Remove uneaten insects, when left in the enclosure they may bite the gecko. A varied diet is ideal, hornworms don’t make the best staple. Try roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. You can also try rubbing hornworm guts on other feeders. Good luck.

    I'm thinking about getting a leopard gecko or 2. Is it better to get 2 from the same place, where they are in the same tank? Or just 1 at a time? I do have a older bearded dragon so I'm kinda knowledgeable in the feedings and lighting/warmth etc. Obviously I wouldn't put them together.

      I do not recommend housing leopard geckos together, they do just fine alone and often fight when cohabbed.

    Thanks for this video! Great timing, actually. I just got a Leopard Gecko last week and have been a little confused as to what to use for lighting/hearing. Right now I have an Arcadia Shadedweller for UVB and day cycle and a Ceramic Heat Emitter for all day and night heat.
    I did get a Fluker’s dimmable dome and an Arcadia 50W halogen bulb to hook up, which I’ve not done yet. Then I will switch the heat emitter to just night heat.
    But now I seen your recommendation for a Deep Heat projector! So, with that, and the UVB, is that all you use or still need a daytime basking bulb?
    On the Deep Heat Projector, I see Arcadia sells two domes…a 5” and an 8”. Thinking maybe the 50W heat projector bulb with the 5” dome? He’s in an Exo-Terra front opening 40 gallon tank.
    Suggestions on what I have already VS implementing the Deep Heat projector would be awesome. Thank you!

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Год назад +1

      Great decision to switch from just ceramic heat emitter to the Halogen basking bulb. Ceramic heat emitters are good for supplemental heating, but not great for the main source of heat.
      I absolutely love the Deep Heat Projectors: I just use it and UVB. 50W should work great for a 40 gallon tank - that's what I use, and I don't even have it turned all the way up. I'm not sure about the arcadia domes, as I've never used them. I just use a fluker's dome with a dimmable switch.
      As far as what to use, I would honestly just use the Halogen basking bulb until it blows (since you already bought it) and then, if you wanted to, switch to the DHP and try it out. Then you can decide which you/your leopard gecko like the best. 😊

      Yes, succulents and possibly air plants. The ideal humidity range for leopard geckos is 35-65% (as measured by a digital hygrometer), so as long as it stays within that range, you’re good :)

    Hi Elle, we got our Oscar last year from our daughter and didn't know a lot about them and we are still learning. But my worry is that something is wrong bc he sheds all the time, but he is also about 7 or 8 inches long now. He won't go in a moist hut. We have sprayed him a few times, but I am scared to pull the left over skin on his little feet. What do you suggest I do and what is best way to get him moisture? Thanks. Sorry so long on comments.
    Tammy

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Год назад +3

      Maybe try to move the location of the moist hide if possible?
      As far as the toes, you can use a shed helper, or just keep spraying water on his toes.
      If he'll let you, you can also put him in a container with warm, wet paper towels on the bottom for about 10-15 minutes (make sure there are air holes of course). That should help his feet get some moisture.
