Of all the companies in the industry of network-attached storage, few are as secretive as Synology. Whether you are an in the industry of network appliances and storage, the in-house IT guy, or a professional consumer (prosumer) who is just in the market for a new piece of kit, finding out information on the latest hardware and software releases from Synology NAS can often be rather difficult. I have been covering pretty much any and all new releases from Synology NAS for a few years now and although they are always rather secretive at the best of times, things are especially oblique in this latest generation of 2020 and 2021 range. There are lots of reasons for this, ranging from their brand's own elusive reputation to share information till the last moment, to the impact of natural disasters in the east and world spreads of Convid-19 having an impact on manufacturers as they either preemptively close/lower staff numbers, or are in areas of a large impact. So, today I wanted to run down everything we know about the software and hardware that we know is coming for 2020/2021 in the Synology portfolio, as well as update as much as I can as time goes on.

You'll get a kick out of this. When you powered down the MR2200ac, youtube buffered this video at exactly the same moment. It looked like your reboot in the video disconnected me from the internet. Perfect timing.
Just did my mesh setup with a RT2600ac and one MR2200ac. You didn't mention that all devices need to have the same DSM version. The connection between them was made like this: RT lan port - wired - MR wan port. It works better than I expected.
FYI, one thing not covered was the CH's used for each freq per router in a mesh mode. The primary and wifi-point use the same CH (bad). Example: if RT2600ac 2.4ghz is at CH1 the MR2200ac 2.4ghz is at CH1 (should be CH6 or 11, not 1)

How many mesh can you have
synology has good stuff but mesh wifi is kind of useless if you wanna cast. It's not gonna work reliably or won't work at all.
It isn't synology fault but I think it is definitely worth mentioning when promoting mesh wifi.
* Forgot to add - a user cannot control which AP his device is connecting to, it's not necessarily gonna be the closest one.
Can you use WPA2 enterprise with this mesh setup?

The synology I bought didn't work at all. would not recognize via pc wired or wireless. Only via phone app and even then would fail once it SAID it was setup. Could not use ANY wifi or wired internet. Also any changes made for the router, it would not work at all. Would not let password be used for connection. It didn't accept the security key or its own pin to login. So far a HORRIBLE mesh system!
