Zosia, Don't Worry ... Taiwan is a very safe country and Taiwanese are friendly and helpful too ! You will get along and get used to or even fall in love with Taiwan especially the food ! Be strong ... You can do it !
You are so young and will have lots of new experience in Taiwan. Suggest to find your Polish students who now in Taiwan and share with them on how to get familiar with the living environment in Taiwan. Next, try to make more friends there. Also raise your uncertainties and ask for asistant to the senior people in your university.
I have similar experiences with you. I am from Taiwan and come to USA to go to study in graduate school. I realize in the first few days that high scores in TOEFL does not mean I would understand the normal conversations with American students nor the lecture in the classes. I struggled the first semester but I failed. I eventually changed my major and lower my study level to college. I end up graduate with honor and immediately have jobs offer. So don’t give up if you wish to reach your goals.
