This man became a 250K subscribers youtuber using the first free painting software he found, the first free editing software he found, google docs and his phone to record voice. Mad respect to be honest. That's how it's done.
I am happy to see an artist that doesn't need bank bracking tools and software to make amazing art. You really show that a artist creativy is more important than his tools. Take care 👋.
Absolute chad setup, congratulations for the absolutely marvelous work, and showing that anyone can make a work of art with what you have. You inspire me, so much ty
This is great! You inspired me to both start worldbuilding as well as begin my art journey and while I haven't gotten very far you help me and inspire me so much!
A thought on productivity. I've been using Google Docs for some of my writing. I'll usually split up a work into several different documents, each to encapsulate a certain topic or portion of my work. This is in the hopes of keeping things digestible and give me the ability to find any particular thing easier. But as with any of my projects, these documents end up becoming large as well. I could further split up the documents to make them more wieldy. However, sometimes this doesn't make sense or creates too many documents. Usually, these smaller documents accompany a large master copy which holds all of the smaller documents in the order I want as one big document as well as an indexing system that is intuitive to the project I'm working on. Lately, I've been implementing a cross-reference system between docs and sheets tied in with comments. I'll take specific parts that would be relevant, (sections, chapters, specific headings, what have you) and create a comment on that part. This allows me to actively index portions of import and go specifically to them. The comment function of Google docs and sheets is flexible and allows for change in a dynamically changing document. Furthermore, comments can be linked to, which allows me to link to these comments in sheets that'll pop up the desired section. In sheets the info can be moved around from cell to cell, if given a short "title" inputted into the cell you can also add a comment with a cluster of info to go with the "title". This'll allow for a flexible way to storyboard and index info about a project. If done on a computer as opposed to a phone more text can be added to a cell and shown by expanding the formula bar. On phone you can't expand the formula bar, so utilizing a clustering system with each cell that has a title and info in the comment tied to the cell is my preferred method when on phone.
It fascinates me that many "pro artists" can't make artwork without 20+ brushes, advanced color correction, and pro photo editing software. They don't use sketchbooks, they don't scribble or doodle, and it really makes me wonder if they're actually as good as their tools make them seem... Meanwhile, Simon's out here with the bare minimum, pretty much arting like a painter or pastel artist without the insane tools and tricks. Mad respect.
After 2 years i finally know what kind of digital draw device to buy, I am as dar away from tech knowledge and budget as imaginable, but when its good enough for you its gonna work for me, love your charm and artistry❤
Proof that you can make gold with whatever you've got lying around, as long as you just keep doing the work! Good inspiration for me to get back into my sculpting. Keep it up 😊
Dang this makes me realize I need to practice my digital art technique instead of blaming the tools. Didn't realize vanilla krita could look this good! I guess I'm just too tech-happy...
I love your work and the universe that you're building. I'm glad to see that your setup is similar to mine. That fills me with determination to write and draw my own things. Keep bringing this amazing content.
The stuff about lore is so true. I barely write down anything about my worlds but I have such a clear picture and ideas in my head I never feel the need too.
thank you for this video! i've always wanted to make stuff as high quality as what you're doing, and knowing that your setup and tools are very similar to what i already have is super encouraging.
I would love to see an overview of the entire monster garden lore so far. I love gettin bits and pieces, but as a new subscriber I feel a little lost. Keep up the amazing work!
This video is awesome you give so much information about youre process of drawing . Other some other channels i've seen dont even list there drawing software
Awesome video. Love that you use Krita. I watch one of your streams and when you said you use krita I said “HEYYY I use krita too!!” And I was happy about that so that was pretty cool
This one is better. I did wonder what the other set up was but I researched it myself and found it. However you showing the brand items are very helpful.
I was watching the rat catcher video and it gave me an idea, what if mages that overused their magic for too long, aside from the possible side effects like skin infection for terraforming mages, would become something else ? I don't know that much about the world yet because I found out about it literally hours ago but maybe they could turn into some monsters from traditional fantasy ? Slimes (eventually a mage that overuses his magic just dissolves into a living goop that starts attacking anything in its vicinity) Giants/cyclopes (with the overuse of magic, mages grow too big and it starts damaging their psyche, making them unable to use magic and turning them "feral") these two immediately come to my mind but I'm sure there could be some better ideas (god this turned into a text wall very quickly and unexpectedly)
Really surprised this is krita. I thought it was procreate because of the way the timelapse works. Thanks for sharing your process. I swear by Davinci Resolve. Incredible software and crash 1/10 as many times as premiere.
lol it's good that it works for you, though I'd argue against using word for writing basically anything. Obsidian has default features and format that make it easier to write anything, it's also easier to tag and search. If you have most of the lore in your mind or you can remember the entire document structure word *should* be enough. The mentality of "if it's not broken, why fix it?" did point you to some pretty good software overall, it's usually not worth worrying about the details. I do consider them due to overthinking about which type of hammer I should use for this particular nail of a problem, but it takes a lot of time. Simplicity has a virtue of its own as it allows you to spend more effort on doing actual work.
In early days of recorded audio the hardware did not handle 's' very well. It's a very high energy wide-band sound and caused problems for speakers and especially clay plates. Singers, reporters and actors were taught to de-emphasize s but it was challenging. Germans invented a signal processor, de-esser that damped the sibilance and made s easier for recording and allowed more relaxed recording.
Greetings, I watched a earlier one of your videos about your version of witch hunters and how you wanted to use weird guns that were between muskets and World War One era. If that is still your goal, I would advise looking at guns that were made in the early days of the US western expansion. Their were some truly weird and Interesting things being done. A good RUclips Channels to look into that shows that kind of thing is called Forgotten weapons. The guy who runs it goes over weird weapons from throughout history and shows off their function + history.
In the book will there be notable characters? I was thinking it could be cool if there was like a medical magic user who popularized the whole writing down knowledge and wearing it or if there were notable figures who are leaders or “heros” that are often idolized or shown through style or specific features, like a red feather being good luck because of a red bird that flew through no man’s land and survived. Obviously not that cuz it’s a little too weird but I think more notable figures could be cool
I hate saying this, but mate, I use the exact same setup. Minus the tablet, I have a huion screenless drawing pad, works fine for me, but I'm contemplating buying one with a screen.
As a fellow worldbuilder i must say that i too have everything in my head, i think i wrote like... 5 sentences total of the world i have, and some of the names lol. I mostly drew the characters and somehow have in mind 1 war, the cities, the political issues and most of the fauna and flora all in my head (yet i cant seem to understand math lol)
damn you'r juste like me : if it's good enough, then why change ? also, I use krita, at the begining I saw everywone use clip studio or photoshop, but when I learn you were using krita, this reassured me on my setup
3:49 when you said humming in the background I just assumed that you meant that there were hooded figures humming an occult chant in your background, i'm too used to your dark fantasy
Man, you have interesting content, but it's pretty hard to understand it, since I'm from Russia. I want to ask if you will add subtitles to your videos, for example in English?
I hate that you are passively vibe checking me every time. I also use krita but when you say "I'm using the default brushes" and draw better than me it hurts..
This man became a 250K subscribers youtuber using the first free painting software he found, the first free editing software he found, google docs and his phone to record voice. Mad respect to be honest. That's how it's done.
Absolutely. Not to mention the drawing pad he uses is under $50, although it is incredible for the price.
I mean his channel did explode in size after his first few uploads
You seem very down to earth. I like the "if it's not broken don't fix it" mentality. I'm also looking forward for this world to unfold :)
Thats mostly every Thai person I know
I am happy to see an artist that doesn't need bank bracking tools and software to make amazing art. You really show that a artist creativy is more important than his tools. Take care 👋.
You have the absolute 100% Anti Gatekeeping attitude. Love it!
The Garden Man clearly lives by “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, I can respect that
the garden man its actually a pretty cool name for our buddy here
Absolute chad setup, congratulations for the absolutely marvelous work, and showing that anyone can make a work of art with what you have. You inspire me, so much ty
FINALLY! ... again? This is some deja-vu stuff.
This is great! You inspired me to both start worldbuilding as well as begin my art journey and while I haven't gotten very far you help me and inspire me so much!
NO WAYYY the seconds of you just scrolling are INSAANNEE. I can't describe better the feeling. Looks like I have so much to learn, it's just amazing
Simplicity is extremely underrated. If the first drawing tablet you get is good enough, you don’t need to get another one until it breaks.
dumpster behind the theater is a very fun term for the process behind art like this i’m stealing that
You know what would be cool, a monster garden table top war game
This video is very helpful. Thank you for showing the brand items.

Question: did you go to art school to learn the way you draw ? And if not to what school did you go to/ or are you curently in ?
Proof that you can make gold with whatever you've got lying around, as long as you just keep doing the work! Good inspiration for me to get back into my sculpting. Keep it up 😊
Fellow krita and davinci resolve user, best free software no doubt althought I do not use same brushes they did remianded me of your drawings
Creativity is not limited by money or equipment. Only by oneself.
Hearing you talk about how you organize and record your lore is so relatable.
I already loved this channel, but knowing that you use Krita, I'm just delighted in love! Keep this great work, man!
same, also love the Bondrewd Pfp
Genuine comment it's amazing to see that we have legit the exact same setup
Dang this makes me realize I need to practice my digital art technique instead of blaming the tools. Didn't realize vanilla krita could look this good! I guess I'm just too tech-happy...

Simon your design, and atmospheric way to create art is so unique and facinating to me that it may become it's own genere
U don’t need expensive stuff to do wonderful things, the hard part is doing it and u r very good at doing the work! Awesome content!!!
Just found this channel, it's very helpful for getting me back into working on my own creative project! Also you have a great voice for narrating!
Loved this video - so incredibly affirming given my own setup is also free and a little janky haha!! ❤
this man can be a Billionaire and still use the first things he got forever. RESPECT
I have never related an artist more in my life

I'd love to see a little more about your creative process for sketching as well!
gotta love the simplicity of it.
I love these videos so much, I wish I could learn more about the world in the form of a webtoon.
krita mentioned!! nice to see a fellow Krita user!
Very reasonable approach, dont need to change things if they work for you, but trying new is also important
Praise be to oog!
Nice, I never would have guessed you used krita for this great art ❤
This is just perfect.
very inspiring
You inspire me so much 🫡 would you mind make a krita tutorial for your style? I would love it
Hahaha a much anticipated answer the answer on the q&a
man is a legend using krita and the base brush
I feel like Im doing the same, have had the same bamboo tablet for 10 years and haven't looked at other ones ever
I was watching the rat catcher video and it gave me an idea, what if mages that overused their magic for too long, aside from the possible side effects like skin infection for terraforming mages, would become something else ?

Try Notion to write your lore. You will not regret it.
As a fellow worldbuilder i must say that i too have everything in my head, i think i wrote like... 5 sentences total of the world i have, and some of the names lol. I mostly drew the characters and somehow have in mind 1 war, the cities, the political issues and most of the fauna and flora all in my head (yet i cant seem to understand math lol)
hoiy shit im not the only one who writes massive piles of google docs when world building and just scroll to find it later! YES!
Bruh 😢, I love you
I can't come up with anymore excuses I guess, I already have everything I'd ever need
damn you'r juste like me : if it's good enough, then why change ? also, I use krita, at the begining I saw everywone use clip studio or photoshop, but when I learn you were using krita, this reassured me on my setup
Hey, are you planning on adding vampires and werewolves to your world? Because I have a few ideas to make them unique depictions if you’re interested.
oh yes the ugg
3:49 when you said humming in the background I just assumed that you meant that there were hooded figures humming an occult chant in your background, i'm too used to your dark fantasy
Wow. I was certain you used an iPad and Procreate.
Man, you have interesting content, but it's pretty hard to understand it, since I'm from Russia. I want to ask if you will add subtitles to your videos, for example in English?
BASED KRITA USER
Bruh, we have a very similar setup lol

I hate that you are passively vibe checking me every time. I also use krita but when you say "I'm using the default brushes" and draw better than me it hurts..
For all have sinned and the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus god alone
