What is funny is I am charismatic with an Arminian bent but I love reading and listening to Dr. Trueman. Naturally I would much rather hear him react against our common enemy, liberal theology and certain stripes of neo-orthodoxy which I consider to be veritable exit ramps from Christianity altogether. Incidentally, although I am charismatic, I staunchly reject dispensationalism and the standard end-times eschatology. I am partial or orthodox preterist to the core. I also consider the Reformation to be the greatest moral and epistemological revolution to ever occur among men. But I also see that as a geographical expression the results of the Reformation are in the late stages of decline. And THIS is the reason I am thankful for voices like Treuman's.
Several references to accountability to presbytery: presbyteries can be part of the problem, defending their own people. Diane Langberg's book, Redeeming Power, and Wade Mullen's book, Something's Not Right, talks about organizations and systems that protect the narcissism and abuse of leaders. Can be destructive for individuals to challenge the celebrity misuse of authority.
Ahhh Carl. You are probably the only sensible Reformed theologian and churchman going around in the US. But throwing red meat to the conservative culture warriors (Thatcher and the Left wing of the evangelical movement) was not cool!!
Thank you for posting this!
Noticing a theme here! When something in this world becomes an end in itself and something to be pursued.. it's a problem!
It would be cool to see a second interview on these topics now in 2021.
Just finished Dr Trueman's Luther, and will order Fools rush in.

What is NOT funny is why you are STILL arminian AND charismatic!!!!!
Trueman is very helpful. Glad that Charismatic find him helpful as well as more narrowly Reformed Ecclesiological.
The moral quality of the minister always matters.
Power comes only for the Holy Spirit's illumination. The Pastor does not police himself, but he needs to be kept accountable by his own Ruling Elders.

Not impressed. Stick with church history, your specialty.
He's NOT trying to impress YOU!!! Why don't you "stick" to NOT commenting @ all in the future..........
