    I built one 30 years ago and it was difficult. I never flew it and it’s been in the shed out back for 20 years but I’m gonna get it out and launch it on a one way trip with a R candy motor installed. It should be epic. I think it’s better than rotting in a shed.

    Nice detail on the 1/100th Scale Saurn V by Estes. At one time Estes Saturn V was a Skill Level 5 and used 3xC5-3's, but their new ratings system down rated the build difficult and limited motor options. Fill in the fin fairings with low expansion foam for more strength if using higher impulse motors. I'd use C/A on the wraps for more strength too, when pushing the envelope pasted 30Newton-sec.

    Very nicely done. When I was you young whipper snapper I built this beast back in the 80's. I want to say it was in 1-144 scale, for the top half for the bottom it had a molded plastic piece that be glued in where you shute chord would tie to the to very close to very top.
    Now that I'm older & have time to build it correctly I'm going to get one. The one paint manufacturer that teamed up with Testors they have paint that addheres to plastic very well & primer as well. Speaking of paint : you can lay down lauqure primer or paint & use any other clear & it won't attack it. But you lay down enamel primer or paint then use lauqure clear it will attack it because lauqure gets hotter than the others.
    This build turned out very nicely.

    great video, i have already built the saturn 5 years ago, started building estes rockets since the 1970s. I still have three more unopenned saturn 5 kits on the shelve. You video has improved a few things with the assembly process for me . I appreciate that greatly. Keep the videos coming please.

    GREAT vid. I have the Saturn V Skylab version and I went looking for a build vlog because the instructions about that reinforcing ring on the aft end of the body tube are a little vague. Your vid helped explain that section perfectly. I'm also going to look for those 3d printed fins now, too. That's a much easier solution compared to the kit-provided ones!

    • @modelrockets3215
      @modelrockets3215  2 года назад +2

      @@modelrockets3215 Do you have a link for the 3D fins? i’m going to be building the same Skylab version (-and not tempt myself to converting to a 3 engine cluster.
      Still have a TIR from years ago for 2-3-4-5 engine clusters. last attempt made me dry watching my LJII hit Asphalt due to lack of altitude (one engine didn’t light). ¯\(ツ)/¯. kit was only 15$ back then. Century LJII today. 😱

      Thank you. That's good! You can do it! Just take your time on the masking off. On the corrugated wraps and spray in thin mist coats. I had some issues with some like under spray. But I went back and touched it up.

    Gonna have to finish watching later but so far great video.
    Just got my 1st 3 kits in after 30 plus years since my last launch. Alpha, Bull Pup (damaged and selller sending replacement), and Limited Edition Saturn V Skylab.
    I like some of your techniques and will finish watching video before doing the Saturn V. I want it perfect and don’t like the body lines (was going to use glue and baking soda (don’t know what your using but want to find out). Good idea with the clothes pins and shrouds.
    I’m gonna take my time. i’m too ODC and yikes. haven’t built a kit since 1979. -99 was a prebuilt alpha i think)
    Look forward to rest of video. i’m getting a small air painter for details.
    Lost the rocket you launched- lost it in clothes till i finally saw parachute and thought you were imagining things seeing the cute that high. 😅
    It’ll be back to finish vids. Saturn will be my last to build. but i def want body lines gone. (if only work on human bodies ) 😜
    Thanks Keith

      Those are by Boyce Aerospace. Make sure to account for the heavier fins if tou launch it. I had issues during my flight. I put the originals back on. Awaiting a flight date.

    Thank you for the great video! I have a couple of (stupid) questions, if you don't mind. First, the two steps with the centering rings, 5 and 7, it's not perfectly clear how far the tube should be insterted. Is it just at the very end? Second, what's the best way to keep it stable while the glue dries? Thanks for your time.

    • @modelrockets3215
      @modelrockets3215  11 месяцев назад

      Sorry. It's been a while since this build. I'll try to answer. When it comes to centering Rings and your distance question. It's all measurements. They tell you where to mark and glue those rings on. And keeping things stable is no issue. The glue starts to dry quickly. So as long you didn't use too much, it sets up with enough time for you to work with it and sit it down without drips.

    That was a great build Keith! The final product came out clean! What do you use to fill in the spirals? I saw you used a tube of something, but couldn’t quite make out what it was. It looked like it sanded easily for you………. Can’t wait to see it fly! Thanks again. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this build!

    Ok. finally got around to watching this from my last post. Hmmm. I’m pretty OCD with building and finishing touches and wondering if I should have wife kill me for thinking this or just buying the 1/200th scale pre built.
    Overall- i like the 1-100th as i want the size to stand out.
    AND i scored well on a 1/45th LJII on eBay with a “free shipping”. i made an offer and got the kit for what i wanted. (now do i build the LJII or see if jumps in price.
    Mercury Redstone LJII. Saturn 1b all wait my build. And yet I want this Saturn V. I’m just not into the Skylab edition. not when i saw the launch and landing of our first moon landing.
    thanks keith for the tips.
