Hi Tim, That is amazing. Such a wonderful box. The trick with the masking tape to locate the magnets is one I will remember. #Brilliant video amte. Take care Tim. Cheers, Huw
Thank you so much Huw! If you do use the tape method, flip the tape when moving to the opposite side for perfect alignment. I didn't do this but got lucky in that my first point marked was near enough bang on center. Thanks for watching mate! 😁
Very enjoyable as always. The magnet alignment trick was very satisfying - I like to try similar things for dowel alignment but always end up making a mess of it. Cheers Tim, super job all round mate.
Thanks Mark! I was thinking after the fact that the tape wasn't totally fool proof, what I should have done is flip the tape when transferring it to the lid. I got lucky in that the first point marked was pretty much bang on center. Thank for watching mate, much appreciated 😁
Hi Pog... I really like this one... I did wonder how you were going to turn a heart shape... Great job and very clever use of the magnets... Take care...All the best.....Andy
Thanks Andy! Definitely one of my favourite pieces of wood! Really useful the magnets, far more than I expected them too be when I first bought them. Thanks for watching mate!
That’s a really nice design and an excellent use of rare earth magnets. I just ordered some magnets myself. Maybe I’ll attempt one of these heart boxes. Nice job mate.
Cheers mate! Once it was on the lathe pretty straightforward, getting the heart right to start was a bit of a nightmare for me though 😂 Thanks for watching and have fun with the magnets!
@@tfturning I totally understand what you mean about trying to get things centered to turn. I’ve tried to do some offset lathing ideas and they turned into either disasters, or missles that flew across my workshop. Lol
Ooh, I really like dual purpose pieces Tim - a nice box with a magnetic clasp that doubles as a fidget spinner. But you must tell us how you turned the basic heart shape - the best I can do so far ends up looking like a half chewed dog bone. Grr. Lol. Take care. -Mike
Thanks Mike!! I basically rough drew the heart shape and cut the curves on a very small band saw that has trouble with straight edges. Those I did with a handsaw. Then it was off to the linisher to tidy what I could reach, files and sandpaper helped get what the belt sander couldn't. To be fair, a half chewed dog bone was what expected and the reason why the camera didn't go on straight away 😂 Thanks for watching bud!
Nice project and interesting process, thanks for sharing. Full View and Like 👍
Thanks for watching Allen!

Thanks man, glad you liked it 😀 Definitely one of the nicest pieces of wood i've had on the lathe too, happy I could share it with you!
Top notch!
Thanks man😁
