hi kayla! deaf viewer here! i was wondering if there was any way you could make the captions available for this video, youtube seems to have disabled them. thanks, love your content!
@@benjikade I'm thinking the video just hasn't been uploaded long enough yet for the captions to populate. 💕 Sorry for the delay-hopefully they process soon!
eeeeeee thanks for using my template!! i loved seeing your rankings and also how you interpreted my labels lolol (definitely included the mental health twist one solely so i could rant about that in my video😅) we love a speculative twist in an isolated small town 😌🩷
from Kayla’s reaction to Midnight is the Darkest Hour AND knowing Bre will be a cohost for the live show…….i already know i’ll be fighting for breath from laughing
I LOVED Midnight is the Darkest Hour so think I’m definitely the odd one out here! Looking forward to the live show but also honestly kinda scared lmao 🫣
I am 90% through Midnight is the darkest hour. I am really enjoying it. It's definitely not a literary masterpiece but it's a lot of fun. I am also reading My Dark Vanessa so it's a well-needed break from something so dark and disturbing. It will be interesting to watch the live.
I was going to put Monstrillo down as one of my 3 top favs but I chose ones that not many people may have heard about. But yes, it's definitely a favorite of the year.
@@JojoJojo-bd6dz If you have any concerns at all reading about child death, I would not recommend Monstrilio. It's so beautiful and such a good story but it's HEAVY in the grief. The loss of the child is talked about repeatedly, and the sadness and grief of every character is felt through the whole story. While it does have (in my opinion) a lovely ending, it's sad the whole time.
Me who give Midnight is the Darkest Hour 5 stars 👁️👄👁️ I feel like this book got so badly mismarketed as a thriller when it's more like a character study on morality. This book is my Roman Empire 😂 If this book has no fans, I am dead.
i’m feeling very validated in DNF’ing Midnight is the Darkest Hour now! it’s interesting with the tropes because unreliable narrator is one of my least favorite tropes but cults are one of my favorites! i just love seeing how different readers are.
Flowers in the Attic is my all-time favorite book, but I can’t even be mad that you put it into Questionable because UH YEAH IT IS. I also read it way too young, at 11. 😬
see i didn’t hate Midnight Is The Darkest Hour… however… had i not read In My Dreams I Hold A Knife (aka an all time favorite) it probably would have got a lower rating from me
Also so glad I slipped midnight is the darkest hour, lol. I don’t do books that villainize religions, and the fact that this was a religious town and a thriller lead me to assume that was the plot. So it was a pass for me.
I know I'm late in mentioning this, but I remember watching Monte's review for Midnight is the Darkest Hour and he had A LOT to say! Haha! I think he had an ARC, but I could be wrong. If he's available for the livestream, I think it would be iconic! But I'm already excited for what you and Bre have to say about it! It'll be a fun discussion to end the year with!
the group's woofs are my favorites other than Midnight is the Darkest Hour if you havent read Twilight the book would make no sense and if you have read Twilight you are going to CRINGE
I find it interesting that "all a dream" books are overused to some people. Because i have never read that trope before. I want recommendations for them but then im going to be spoiled for it 😂
I wonder if you consider "Our share of night" to be a cult book then? Because personally I would and I think I saw that you liked it, so that would make it another exception besides "Bunny" 😅
Hurt that Fear Street is so low, but hyped that Christopher Pike is iconic where he belongs. 👏🏼 I will say most Fear Street books are pretty miss, but the ones that hit are just so good!
I actually really hate when alcoholism is used as a trope. Perhaps it was because I was reading a lot of thrillers for a while and more than 5 of them in that stretch (and multiple in a row) were like "did something scary happen, or am I just sloshed?" I think its lazy writing. I'm interested to hear which ones you think were done well, because the ones I've read... 👀
The YA/Kids books section was such a blast from the past. Gordon Korman was going HARD with those books. I was obsessed with the Island series in elementary school, it was essentially LOST for kids. I also really loved a lot of Jerri Spinelli's books as a kid. This video definitely made me realize how many T.V.-series-to-Book adaptations there were. I loved them as a kid, but they are objectively terrible.
Did you see there's a movie for "Are you there God? It's me Margaret"? It was very good and it has Regina George's actress, she is on her cute wife About Time-ish persona.
I wish I subscribed to you sooner so I could have been saved from Zone One (woof on the Literally Dead rankings from the past). I’m 25% in right now and it’s just not working for me which makes me sad because I loved The Underground Railroad by the same author!
21:41 As a lover of the Animorphs series, I do want to say that that particular book (the Rachel starfish one) is BY FAR one of the worst in the series. It wasn't even written by the main authors (ghostwritten), and even big fans of the series hate it. So, yes, that one is bad. But the other books in the series are not nearly so poorly written
11 seconds into the video and I already said the wrong month. lol.

Kayla, I just love how much you put into your videos! 🖤
Oh man Midnight is the Darkest Hour is the only AW book I've loved! Haha in my top 5!
I hope you do this every single year.

I've heard so much about, but as a mother of 3y old the death of a child in a book is sth I avoid. How bad is it?

The problem with a twisted love story is that it wasn’t really a thriller- It was a dark mystery romance. Totally marketed/ categorized incorrectly.
Also so glad I slipped midnight is the darkest hour, lol.
I don’t do books that villainize religions, and the fact that this was a religious town and a thriller lead me to assume that was the plot. So it was a pass for me.
