Ive recently gotten the inspiration to get back into animal crossing and finally fully decorate my island. For the first time! The problem is I don’t know where to start & I’m overwhelmed. I don’t know how to plan it out ahead of time ( or if I should).
What I did was to make a list of areas I wanted on my island, like a restaurant /coffee, rock garden, flower garden, forest, etc... Then decide if I wanted one big neighborhood or multiple small ones or only scattered houses. Same for the shops (shopping center or not?). After that, I used the website Happy Island Designer to figure out my map roughly and place the areas I listed. And finally I picked one area and started building. It's important to know that the map created is only a draft, not an exact placement of things and it can be changed when building. Starting with one area at a time helps too. It's better to start on a border of the island, like the airport or on one side so when you finish the island, you arrive at the center and have less dead space or fillers areas to work with. Hope that helps 😊
@@Just_Alice.this helps so much! Thank you! Another thing I struggle with is knowing where to terraform. It’s really hard to visualize this ahead of time. I think it’s going to take some trial and error.
@@Lexi-M I'm glad that helps 😊 For terraforming, it's a lot of trial and errors, but you can think a little where you want some cliffs or waterfalls for example. Then try and see. Watching some speed build can help sometimes to see how some builds are made. I took many inspo and help watching videos!
@@Lexi-Mtrial and error is key. Like that other commenter, I also make a list of areas I want. I’m currently making a Halloween island, and I knew I wanted a costume contest area, a pumpkin patch, and a haunted carnival. Figuring out the layout was just a matter of going with the flow, tearing things down, and rebuilding. Experiment with different terraforming until you find something that just vibes with you. Remember, you can always tear it down and try something else the next day. 😊
For both the islands I worked on, I did a quick sketch beforehand so I at least had an idea of where I wanted everything to go, where I wanted all buildings/bridges etc. - especially with the limit on stairs/bridges I find this helpful! Ofc there’s some trial and error bc you cant anticipate where you might have some small gaps but this helped me a bunch (also having a theme or some inspiration for what you wanna do!
a filler area i've been quite proud of that i did recently was a little berry patch with red lily bulbs and blue windflower bulbs to look like strawberries and blueberries
This is such a lovely idea! I’m totally gonna use this. I bet it looks so beautiful. 😻 I like to use the yellow hyacinths for corn fields especially during halloween. Also I like to use the purple hyacinths to make lavender fields.
My entire island has developed organically and that’s just a nice way of saying it’s a gigantic filler space. It’s daunting to go about making a cohesive plan. Maybe I’ll just stick to letting it go like the highland moors. 😂
The most recent placed creature that ive discovered that i really love is the giant isopod, i placed them on a wooden partition in my house so it can peak over the top of the container at me. I am also a huge fan of when people place the snapping turtles alongside things like pet food bowls like they’re just a funny looking dog
I had no idea that chopping down trees at different stages left the stumps at their corresponding sizes! Definitely going to take advantage of that when I’m decorating later today :) Awesome video, thank you! Edit: One of the other things I learned is that I need wayyy more items in my catalog and more diy recipes

I also sometimes start placing items down just to see what they look like and then decide from there what to work with! But whichever way works is totally perfect, especially as long as you're having fun! ❤
I've been playing this game since release and somehow didn't know that chopping a tree before it's fully grown will leave a lasting smaller stump behind.
I lovingly call them baby stumps! Sometimes it can be really nice to include some different sizes, I'm glad I was able to show you something new hehe 😍

Hi! I’m new to your channel I was hoping I could get some tips of how to keep trees and bamboo and their small growth stage and not grow at all
Hey! 😊 I explain and show it in the video actually: you have to plant a fruit sapling (anything but coconuts) in one of the surrounding tiles of your tree (at the stage you want it at)! ☺
Where do you get all the great items? I've only ever had the basic ones and my islands are never as good.
how do you change between emotes without the reactions wheel showing up in your recording?
