    What a great video homage to Detroit, my dad grew up in windsor and my grandfather worked for chrysler for over 35 years. He remembers the glory days of detroit! Sadly with todays quickly changing auto industry I don't think those days will ever return to detroit. Great song!

    Amazing groove to this song. I just saw Sam at 3 of his 4 shows in Toronto, he's always been incredible - but this tour is just amazing!!
    The crowd at all the shows, even the balconies were on their feet and rockin' right from start.
    Best Show Ever!

    I live across the river from Detroit (in Canada) and yes it's down right now, as is our city, but I believe that one day they will rise again....it will take time but they will. I have visited Detroit many times and never ran into any problems. This is a great song and video.

    I grew up in Detroit, very young when the riots were happening, My memories are bitter sweet but mostly happy ones . A lot of good memories too ,can't explain it would take to long.I hold on to those good memories and respect those that do to. Peace to everyone. My old home town.. still love it and always will..

    As a MI resident, and Detroit citizen, THIS SONG IS AMAZING! There is absolutely nothing stopping the city of Detroit from returning to greatness other than mis-informed citizens! There are people that want to make Detroit as amazing as it was...so vote for the right people and help it happen! Vote for the people that will best represent the city residents! Kwame was popular, but please, learn from your mistakes, and vote for people with GOOD intentions!!!

    Looks like the comment I posted didn't make it to the board... Oh well! I was saying how much I love this song since I live in the Detroit area and Sam Roberts is my all-time favorite musician. It's so very dear to my heart and I'm ecstatic to see they made it into a video. If they didn't I was hoping someone would!

    Cloudburst,
    So true. I grew up new Windsor, downriver from motown. We used to go to Detroit for the concerts but that's about it.
    Amazing contrasts - today I live in Vancouver where the average cost to own a home is still about $600,000 (down from $750,000 at the height of the real estate bubble here). Today you can own a similar home for about 10% of that in Detroit, or even less! But the neighbourhood sucks. Too bad they can't clean things up.

    Yeah, I remember those times. I remember seeing it on the news. I remember seeing the tanks roll down the freeway that ran through my backyard 20 miles from Detroit. I should have had my head examined!

    My Dad grew up in Detroit, my Mom is Hamtramck. I grew up in Metro Detroit, but Detroit has been part of my life since I was born. It gets a bad name in the media, but I've been to other big cities and they are no better. If you grew up in Detroit or the Metro Detroit area, you would know what people mean when they say they wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

    I just noticed how this song's melody is very similar to an early Motown song. Listen to "The Way You Do the Things You Do" as performed by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and you will see what I mean.
    Love how the video starts with Jerome Cavanagh and ends with the 12th Street Riots.

    A "metro Detroiter"? That implies you don't live in the city itself. (If my inference is incorrect, I apologize.) I do. And I love this video. Yes, Detroit has ruins a plenty, but so what? We rock, and we groove, and we're proud of our past, present and future--and this song gets it.

    • @sandycraft3300
      @sandycraft3300 5 лет назад

      tony0000 - you're not wrong, but your not right either. Detroit proper includes Rosedale Park on the West Side, Indian Village, Palmer Park, etc.. it's so carved up theres no Eastpoint (or was thar East Detroit?) The point being that for whatever reason, instead of property values being sky high like every other City, Detroit's population decreased and soon, places outside the City became more popular. Now if you want to live within the City limits, there isn't many places zoned for residential. It's all industrial like it always really was whennyou place your factories right smack downtown. There are plenty of places to live inside Detroit proper, but save for the half-demolished old 80's crack houses, they are so far away from the City you might as well be in an edge-city, which is hip speaknfor what your point is, but these edge cities are regentrifying at a faster pace because no one can afford to live in the City skirts for the car insurance rates ($400 a month for pl/pd). Refrain from looking down your nose at those "Edge Cities". They're expanding to the real City, and they'll get Highland Parks lights on again, faster than you. That is the function of an edge city. If that spoils the view outside your home on Pelkey that you think makes you look like a bad ass, sorry - we're taking it back.

    Windsor is truly on tough times. i doubt you'd rather live in Detroit though. Unlike Detroit, we have a chance to turn things around with a bit less difficulty. I hear what you are saying but its easy to put down the city and become part of the problem rather than a solution.
