@@TotalMusicJunkie The value of vintage guitars has gone down though. It peaked in about 2006, and then went down after the real estate market crash. The prices have not returned to what they were simply because the generation of musicians who have reverence for vintage guitars is aging out. People who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s are now seniors living off of social security, and they dont have the same buying power they did 15 years ago. Younger people arent buying them for investment, because the role of the guitar in music today has greatly diminished. Listen to any new song by a big, relative artist, and chances are, the guitar is an accompanying instrument, not the lead instrument, if it even has any guitar in it at all. But that could change. There could be a revival of guitar centric music, but thats a big if. We can’t see into the future. You can’t assume that the value of vintage guitars is going to go up more than inflation. Though very nice instruments like that Les Paul will always be valuable, its not necessarily going to go up in value. I remember when 50’s strats were selling for $45k. Now the most they go for is in the high 20’s. And Mary Ford owning it won’t increase the value of that guitar by much. Hardly anyone knows who she is, let alone is a fan of her. She wasn’t Les. The only reason why the guitar sold for a high price is because of its appearance on Pawn Stars. I guarantee you if that guitar was never on the show and went to auction, it would have sold for half the price.
