  • This jump came after this licensed skydiver told me "i'll do a solo track" on the previous load. Somehow this jumper ended up near me under canopy, close enough to yell at. After we both landed, I approached him and said "until you seek coaching, no more tracking on your own" To which he responded, "Can you coach me?" Or course, haha! So, my method to teach a beginner how to track is to leave the aircraft in a belly formation, indicate a heading, then track in that heading. It hardly ever works out smoothly the first time. I coach the student to observe their heading and check in with the leader of the group every 3 seconds. Next, I emphasize the importance of staying on your side of the leader, your quadrant of space. As you notice in this video and the videos to follow, the student at first will cross the center line of the leader (me) and come back. This is dangerous when you are in larger groups because you can blindside another jumper in your group.
