- Most cruises have now suspended stops in Labadee Haiti. Criminal gangs more powerful than Haiti's state security forces have freed 4000 prisoners and control the Port Au Prince airport. Over a thousand people are dead and an estimated 15,000 people are homeless. Here's what's going on, and what might have happened if cruises continued to visit Haiti.

That is an entirely possible scenario. Kidnapping a cruise ship would generate MILLIONS. No way the Coast Guard could overtake gunmen on those top of ship positions. Scary stuff.
Right? Talking with my friends in intelligence and their scenarios are even more scary.
Our cruise on Mariner of the Seas for March 16th to Haiti just got rerouted to Nassau Bahamas! Received email a couple hours ago. We were worried about going to Haiti and for sure did not want to get kidnapped or…. Eaten. 💀 🍖😂

Feel terrible for the Haitians but this isn't worth the risk.
The State Department added that "travelers are sometimes followed and violently attacked and robbed shortly after leaving the Port-au-Prince international airport" while "robbers and carjackers also attack private vehicles stuck in heavy traffic congestion and often target lone drivers, particularly women."
When you consider 'the worst thing that could happen' it makes zero sense to stop in Labadee.
The beach isn't even that nice. There were ants everywhere. The souvenier sellers were the most aggressive we've ever seen. Thinking it's time to nix Haiti altogether until they get their act together in like 50 years.

Unrest has been happening a long time. Temp stops happened in 2019 also. BTW...you can get to any beach without going through the locals market stall area.

Let's be honest. Millions of people have foolishly ignored potential dangers throughout history due to greed and incompetence. We are incredibly fortunate nothing happened leading up to this cancellation.

Um, no, they have not. As of March 12, 2024, Royal Caribbean is canceling or otherwise modifying some shore excursions for upcoming cruises in its private port of Labadee. But they are indeed sailing to Labadee.
