BiSH already had a rich discography before they decided to disband this year (June 29th was their last concert) after more than eight years together (with few members changes at the beginning) and yet, they still released a lot of great singles throughout 2022 and 2023, including this opening song. And on top of that, Heavenly Delusion is a great anime.
Heavenly Delusion is a freaking rollercoaster from fun through sadness to aggressive desperation. After one of the episodes I literally couldn't fall asleep.
9:52 I absolutely love unpredictability in songs and that's why I really love japanese music, because even in the most pop jpop songs they have elements that are unique and unpredictable, and they very often mix in elements of other genres too. This is also why Maximum the hormone is one of my favorite bands even though I'm not much of a "metalhead", their songs are just such a unique experience it's so fun to listen to
One of the best openings of spring 2023. Like you said, the motif really did get stuck in my head for a while, even recently I caught myself humming it by accident lol
Your commentary on the contrasting dynamics is actually pretty interesting based on the show. Without getting into spoilers the show constantly swaps between two different storylines where the characters live contrasting lives.
The track issue might be because of the low quality audio in that specific video. The official video Titled Innocent arrogance on BiSH channel has a much better mix
I really like the contrast throughout the song. The childsh character to the vocals is certainly intentional considering the anime's story and I love this nice little touch.
This song is killer, it really grew on me over the course of the show, and now its in my mini playlist that I listen to on my way to and from work! Its such a heater! Another song that I've been enjoying recently that has a similar contrast of loud and unexpected vs poppy and expected is ANEMONE by Tokoyami Towa. I don't have the technical knowledge to know if it is designed as well as this one, but I really love them both, so I'd love to see it analyzed!
YES, I love BiSH. I usually don't listen to jpop or kpop or any of it, but BiSH the alt-jpop group is perfect. You have no idea how happy I am to see a BiSH reaction video posted only 7 hours ago. Shit gives me life. I love that BiSH is predictable on some parts yet refreshingly unpredictable every now and then. Alot of modern pop-rock tends to sway a bit too much in either direction, making something completely unpredictable and therefore unmemorable, or completely predictable and therefore boring. BiSH hits all the right spots for me. They would be way bigger if only japanese managements cared about overseas audiences.
i love everything about this song. It's unique, which speaks to me. I love the intensity, and I love how it bounces back and forth between the quiet and relaxed sections and the bombastic loud sections. It reflects the show and it also makes for music which is incredibly interesting to listen to. This song has such character, it is distinct from most other anime OPs on its progression alone, not to mention instrumentation and execution. I listened to the TV size version of this song on repeat for several days after it came out, because I was just so fascinated by it. It has that catchiness to it where it gets stuck in your brain and you want to keep coming back to hear it again and again, like an itch.
It's so funny how you've basically described the anime at 3:20 That's what I enjoy from your reactions. You spot what someone like I, would miss but still get it right on
This opening is like a plot - first calmly, it’s the life of children in the so-called «Parainity» and then the crazy rhythm is how harsh the world in which our 2 guys live
What really stuck with me in this OP besides the music is that moment where where the dissonance between his being and her body is portrayed, almost like the lineart syncopates with the fill; IMO a breathtaking visualisation of his inner struggle, of how one's view of themself can stray or misalign.
Regarding predictable vs surprising/creative/unusual songs, I do find myself gravitating more and more towards songs that sound interesting and new. Special I suppose. At the same time though, I believe even a song that very much "follows the formula" in terms of chord progression, structure etc, can still be "special", whether it's with interesting instrumentation, exciting textures, even a particularly good/memorable hook, or simply by being exquisitely crafted. Regarding that last point, there's a reason besides nostalgia we still love the old songs that created the standard. Or for example a singer who simply has an incredible voice. I guess what I'm trying to say is that a song can differentiate itself by trying something unusual, and when it works it can become a masterpiece, but writing predictable music very well is just as valid.
That is the beauty of art, especially if you are the consumer. Everyone is the champion of their own story and music they like is generally 'valid' Once you get deep in the ingredients as an artist and see how things are made, validity becomes extremely subjective.
The song A the clam part shows the school which is the most peaceful time vs B the crazy guitar and chorus it shows a compilation of fights the apocalypse
I love this song. They sing what I expect them to sing, and when they do it, it's fresh. This is a good example of how you can use a guidebook to avoid being caught👍
BiSH really made some bangers. After all those years, the one recent song called "in case" by BiSH just hits different. Godzilla SP was really fun to watch also imo, despite the amount of CGI. :D
Thank you Tony, for doing this opening that I also asked even though it wasn't because of me. You should also do Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (movie) opening from King Gnu, maybe with the rest of the new Jujutsu Kaisen openings you said you were gonna do, thank you once again!
I can say that I definitely find this song more interesting to listen to specifically because of the genre bending, explosive energy moments. It defied my expectations which had been leaning towards a more generic pop song sound for an anime but it's so much more interesting than that.
I love how almost all BiSH song has this same guitar and the violin melody! They also did Black Clover OP2 u did react to them before, i didnt know u would react to this opening. Also the show is also great! One of the reason i watch this show just because of the opening song. Btw love your reaction/analysis.
I know patreon followers get to submit requests. After I’ll get a little better from my surgery I’ll definitely follow there and requests some of my favorites as a gift to myself 😌
You should definitely check out Asphyxia by Co Shü Nie. It’s chaotic but in a way that really just resounds through you. That song, both the MV and Live Take are drop dead gorgeous. That and Takt. Op Destiny.
To answer your question of preferring predictable vs unpredictable progression, I'd say I much more prefer a song with unpredictability strewn throughout, not because I dislike the former but because it's more fun to listen to, time after time; catching new parts of the song on repeat listens. The predictable aspects of songs have their place, and I'll always be a fan of it as long as it's executed well with variety in it's composition. In regards to this song, the parts that are pop-y contrast well with how unpredictable the sequences are that come after. Fantastic anime btw, up there in my top 10. Give it a watch if you enjoy post-apocalyptic, character driven sci-fi with elements of mystery, and some action.
To me BiSH are the greatest band/artists from Japan. I love that you reacted to them! But as with a lot japanese bands, they're better live...the emotions! Aina the End is a goddess on vocals!
I've been watching alot of BiSH reactions lately, one english comment has consistently appeared and that is yours, I just knew I'd see you here aswell. Loyal to the core, fantastic to see.
Lovely posthumous reaction (not about you but about BiSH, lol) this was the last collaboration the group had with their long time producer Kenta Matsukuma who left their the who he founded called WACK, months ago before BiSH disbanding, their lastest singles where made without him except for this one. Now most of the former members kept in the music industry, except Hashiyasume Atsuko who now is a TV pundit, comedian and actress, and Ling Ling now called MISATO ANDO who now is a painter. Ayuni D has her rock band called PEDRO, Momoko Gumi Company is a novel writer but also is doing music by herself, Cent Chihiro Chittii now called CENT as a solo artist also does acting, as well as Aina The End that maybe is the most notorious member
It's one of the few openings I never skip. For me the main draw of the song is the juxtaposition of intimate, delicate vocals and noisy distorted guitars. Really works well with the show too, since there is a lot of warmth and care between the main characters, who are surrounded by an absolute sea of awful.
you know a son has done its job when you casually hum it, walking or just doing regular things. For me it's Dolphin in Town - Kingo Hamada the turu part
You should watch Evangelion brother, the main series and The end of Evangelion. It will change you, at least that's done to me now that I'm going through a big deppresion. Aina the End is the end of my life
