I already had this at my town. It's called a library card. You can check out books for free and they give you 3 weeks to read them.
If you guys have kindle unlimited I recommend to read book 'How To Become Lucky And Get Whatever You Want'.
After reading this book you will understand how you can get whatever you want and how you can complete your dreams and how you can avoid bad experiences in life.
$10 is about as much you would pay for about 3 paperbound novels...now the question is whether an average person will read through more than one book in a month, including the fact that many people (me including0 love the feel of a real book

I absolutely LOVE Amazon! Besides Google, they are my favorite brand. Amazon is smart, they are tying all these services together under their nice little umbrella, Amazon Prime (Instant Video, Music, free shipping), Cloud Drive, Amazon Android App Store (limited selection, I know), and now Kindle Unlimited. And they're smart because they're tying it all into their devices, the Amazon Kindle line, and now the Amazon FirePhone. Heck, I might even want to pick up that Amazon Fire TV around the Holidays. I may just try the free trial, I was thinking about Oyster, but Amazon I trust and am more loyal to.
It's like Spotify or Netflix but for books, looks pretty cool!
Is it clear what this means for the authors and their royalties? Particularly self-published authors?

Anyone who says this isn't a great value is nuts. Go check the selections. There's TONS of new/recent books in addition to older titles. This is another reason why Amazon get's it.
I just checked the selections and I think it's fantastic too! I have Amazon Prime yet couldn't use the borrows because I have an iPad. I'm looking forward to getting more books to read and research.
Very interesting ... the books I've written will be available as part of this subscription so I hope that leads to more readers of my stories and characters. :)

600,000 titles is impressive, but far short of the full catalog at Amazon. Not all publishers are on board. I don't think I'd pay $10/mo. for a small cross-section of Amazon's books.
So do not pay. Nobody forces you to it.

Amazon advertises that it sells "millions" of titles. So, 600k is at at least a fourth of the catalog. My guess is it's less than 10%
They will be. Amazon is playing the long game, and the big publishers are too late to do anything to stop them.
A small subsection of Amazon's books.... well when you can read several thousands of books a month then you'd be making sense that this isn't a good value otherwise it's a great value, especially if the majority of those books are not public domain.

Subscribing. But really hoping they update the collection soon, there's not as many gems as you'd think. Still a great bargain though since I usually read 2-3 books a week

Kalvin One Yes, Dumbass, i'm stupid, and you use too many exclamation points. 600,000 titles is not enough to say "bye bye" to Google or Apple's book stores. How much profit do you think Amazon makes on the whole anyhow? Shareholders are already getting pissed off.
I don't mind but they are first and going to that way is good for all customers (even that choice exists). And the amount of books is OK. It s not 3-4 books hey?

Honestly I was hoping for a great selection of entrepreneurial books, but there is only generic stuff that you might find in a discount bin.

Audible is initially included with the service but then goes back to it's usual pay per month format, so no, Audible is a separate thing again after the first 30 days.
The selection of books and audiobooks they're offering with this service is okay at best, a ton of the books were free to read anyway. I'm assuming the library will grow with time, but it hardly seems worth it to me if I'm going to have to spend money for the books I want on top of monthly fee for a bunch of stuff I could have gotten for free or I never wanted to read in the first place.

I get this stupid ad on EVERY video! Guess what page ill never visit...
I will not be renewing this service as it stands now. It's so saturated with obscure titles I guarantee you will not find the author you're looking for with a few exceptions. Like netflix, you will probably spend more time looking for worthwhile books than actually reading. Not only that but there is literally zero organization for the offered selections so you have 600k books all lumped into a single category requiring you to scroll page by page to see your choices. The same problem plagued the Prime lender's library but I guess they didn't see it as worth fixing.
