    I went with the Fenix 6S Pro. I was also considering the FR945 and the FR745 as well. Having rather small wrists the Fenix 6S Pro ticked more boxes in the size, features, and batter life. Been very happy with it so far, it’s even replaced my Edge 530 as my main bike computer, much simpler only dealing with one device now.

    My first proper sports watch was Fenix 3 HR with Sapphire glass. And I loved it! It just felt like a tank - indestructible. 6 month ago I decided to upgrade to Fenix 6 Sapphire and cannot say a single bad word for it. It still has the heritage of Fenix 3, that heavy duty feeling, but it's so much more advanced. It is excellent watch with so many features. Those who are looking for something long-lasting, well built should definitely consider paying that extra buck for sapphire version. I have hit concrete wall, metal parts several times so badly with my watch that I though it's going to be it, but haven't had a single scratch on my screen. Definitely recommend it!

    Thank you for another great video and precise review, love your video man !
    Helped me chose the fenix 6 sapphire (although I first planned to go for the 945 for its weight), for 3 main reasons : bigger screen, looks really higher quality on my wrist compared to the fr945, and durability of the sapphire glass . I recently fell in a downhill section on a night trail run and broke a flask, smartphone screen etc.... makes me now consider this, giving my outdoor activities, as I scratched my actual fr245.
    But the 945 looks like a perfect watch to have.

    I have a Fenix 6x Sapphire and love it! Got rid of my Apple Watch, and will never go back. I’m in the military, and while it is heavy, it is also a tank of a watch. The addition of tactical and jump master modes are awesome (haven’t used jumpmaster but hopefully soon). It takes all that I can throw at it and more. I highly recommend it (battery life is amazing as well). I also deployed w this watch so it took austere conditions and extreme temperatures (120F +) and kept going without so much as a hitch or a drop in battery life.

    Good video as always. I agree with you on the fact that both watches are very similar. Here is my take on awarding pros and cons to 945 (I have owned for 16 months) vs Fenix 6 Pro (I have had for 6 months):
    Pros of 945 (when compared to Fenix 6 Pro):
    - Excellent display contrast when using back-light. (Better than Fenix 6 Pro).
    Cons of 945 (when compared to Fenix 6 Pro):
    - Very poor quality of buttons.
    - Less accurate barometric elevation due to placement of barometric vent at the back of the watch. If you are trail or vertical (stair) runner, and your arms get sweaty, you will get inaccurate elevation readings of your run (not gaining elevation or elevation being exaggerated at different points of your run).
    - Slower (CPU) performance when interacting with maps (loading course, review of saved run … etc)
    - Slightly slower interaction with email notifications (view and dismissal of emails).
    - Smaller storage 16GB (vs 32GB on Fenix 6 Pro)
    - Poorer readability of 6 field screen layout due to 945 having physically smaller screen size
    Both watches give me very similar GPS data (both can be sometimes equally inaccurate in forested areas and cut straight lines through curved course). My preference for the watch leans towards Fenix 6 Pro.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +8

      I also wondered where the barometric hole is placed as I haven’t noticed it on the lateral of the watch like on the Fenix. Very strange and misjudged placement if you ask me. I also own a Fenix 6X Sapphire and, although is quite heavy, it’s literally bomb proof. I smashed it against walls, rocks, etc and looks like new. The GPS is funky at times, especially in covered areas, but I can live with it. I’m an amateur runner/hiker so yeah. But the barometer is deadly accurate, the OHR is surprisingly good in my case and you have maps, very good sleep tracking, etc.

    Recently bought the FR945 because I wanted the HR bundle. I'm really happy with it so far, and like you said the spec sheet comparison between the Fenix 6 and Forerunner 945 are very similar. I'm gad that - even with the 2 HR bands - it was reasonably expensive, instead of outlandishly pricey. My one woe with it, though I'm not sure if the Fenix series also has this, is that it takes two screw drivers and a few minutes to change out the bands and put it in the Bike mount.

    If money is not an issue in your decision, I believe the Fenix 6 Pro is still the better buy for most people. Build quality is definitely worth the extra money in my opinion. The difference between the 945 and Fenix 6 pro sapphire when I was purchasing watches was $200. Your videos helped me so much in choosing between the 945 and the Fenix 6. I ended up getting the 6X sapphire. It was only $50 more than the 6 sapphire and the extra 7 days of battery life along with the 8 data fields instead of 6 was too hard to pass up. I believe it also has 60 hours of gps which was another reason I got the X instead. I am beyond impressed with the quality and function of the 6X sapphire.

    Hi there,
    You don’t realise how good your videos are. So to the point, but detailed and I can actually absorb and focus. I had NO idea what to do before your last few videos. Appreciate your hardwork.
    My question is... I’m edging toward 945 for lightness (not used to watches). Though long lasting and better glass is tempting.
    But looked at your Fenix x6 solar titanium review And wowie. Mostly for the titanium (though as a female, don’t know if I’d like it? Titanium seems solid and longer lasting (not that keen on silicone) but you didn’t weigh the titanium band too (was just curious) between the saphire.
    So, looked at all the types of bands you can get for Fenix 6 sapphires and then also the solar version and curious about comfort. Aka in humid conditions ie Asia, I’ve hated silicone as it gets sweaty, hot and I can get swollen even and just irritated by anything on me. Leather, unsure, perhaps hotter but less sweaty. There’s another nylon band - seems ok? Long lasting? And titanium seems like my dads watch haha but I’m also curious about its feel in heat, rubbing, weight, rain etc.
    Thankyou kindly again on any quick thoughts on the bands mostly.

      Hey Lara! Thanks for the kind words. The 945 is a fantastic light-weight watch. I've actually been wearing it regularly these days. The Fenix 6 is super premium but like you said a bit heavier if you're a smaller person. The titanium does help with weight a bit though. The 945 still feels way smaller and lighter on my wrist. In terms of bands, both the 945 and Fenix 6 are compatible with 22mm quick fit bands so you can swap them out easily. I tend to use silicone bands because I'm more of a function over form type of person. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    I am still using FR935 ... used to compare F5 with FR935; The main reasons are battery life and weight other than wifi which only featured in F5 sapphire. As a slow trail runner, extra 30-40g is a big different when you run over 5-10 hours. It do make a different when you are swimming. That longer battery life, technically giving you an assurance that you have extra hours in case you are lost in a deep jungle/ trail. Thinking to move to FR945 then, but early release features not that much exceptl RunningPro. Looking into a new FR ... may be this year or early next year when it came out.

      The sapphire is a great peace of mind. However, the metal case of the watch is still quite prone to scratch. Thanks for the video !
    I recently got a F6 Pro to replace my beloved FR935 mainly for the larger screen/resolution but I'm a bit disappointed. The weight isn't too bad but you don't forget about it like the FR935 (and FR945 I assume). It's a tad bulky too but it's still acceptable. What lets it down is GPS reception, when you run in town the F6 is really "all over the place", cutting through buildings and showing useless pace. So I pulled out my old (discontinued) Garmin Footpod and that helps for instant pace. I thought they had fixed the infamous accuracy issues of the F5 but it doesn't seem to be the case. Ah and with the higher weight it bounces more on the wrist and messes up the oHr (not that it needs that in the first place !).
    If there was an FR955 with a 1.3"/260x260 it would be a no brainer but it's not the case...yet. So would you say the smaller screen of the FR945 is a "problem" for legibility or you don't even notice it side by side ?

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      Big time. The weight is a huge deal to me as well. You can almost forget its there.

    Really enjoying your videos!!! Just subbed for sure!!! I just bought a FR945 because of your nice reviews on it. Question: I have the latest V.5.00 of the firmware and my widgets still are full screen and not glance like in this video. Do I have to switch the widget view somewhere?

      Hey Thanks! Yeah you need to toggle the setting for widget glances it should be in your settings! Thanks for watching.

    As a fenix 6 owner I kind of feel a bit miffed - I bought the 6 over the 945 for many of these features, which have now come as free upgrades on the 945. secretly hoping some beefed up options await the 6 in the coming years 🤞
    Still - the 6 wins in aesthetics every day of the week.

      The build quality is really what sets them apart. No matter what they add to the software the Fenix 6 is still a piece of art compared to the plastic of the 945. That said, I really do enjoy the super light weight of the 945. Thanks for watching!

    thank you for your reviews. Very helpful! Are you comparing the "entry level" fenix 6 here or the pro version? You mentioned map navigation and music storage that is only available to the Pro versions of fenix 6 lineup if I am not mistaken.

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      Thanks! The only difference is that the Pro/Sapphire models get the Maps/Music/Wifi while the base model does not. Other than that they are identical.

      @@ChaseTheSummit thanks for the answer, so if I want spotify and Navigation I go for the Pro necessarily. Can I upload a course from Garmin Connect to fenix 6 and see where I am heading or this is also an additional feature for the pro/ sapphire models?
      once again thank you!!

    All Garmin watches have the same optical heartrate sensor and the same GPS chipset and the same display. The only difference is battery life, housing material and design and intentionally crippled software, but resulting in heavier bigger watches. Me personally, I therefore go with the FR245, gives me all I need in terms of software in a super lightweight housing so I dont notice the watch on my wrist.

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      Similar sensors in some but different computing power which is why some of the larger watches have more features like Mapping. Also some cheaper Garmin's don't have a real altimeter on board. The 245 is a really nice watch for running though! nice choice.

    you get native postioning on the fenix ie latitude and longitude and/or your local datum (such as OS grid in the UK). Don't know if this is possible on the Forerunner natively or if you need to add an extra app. fenix 6 definitely the one for hiking/mountaineering

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад

      The Forerunner 945 still has the "save location" feature and of course you can download anything from the Connect IQ store for this purpose. Garmin also added native positioning to the Instinct series as it's considered an "outdoor" watch. It's strange what features carry over! Thanks for watching.

    Fenix 6 just looks and feels so good compared to the Forerunner.

      I do love the "tank like" feeling of the Fenix 6. However, the Forerunners light weight is also really nice! Different strokes! Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for the great summary of the differences with the latest updates, that's good to know. I appreciate the opinion you shared on comfort at 53g for the 945. I have small wrists, if it's slightly smaller that would be def better. I am def considering the 945 instead. Anything I'm missing on the Fenix 6 vs 945? I assume it has all the wellness, new high tech sensors? Thank you!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +1

      They're very similar as the video implies. The only real difference is the build quality, some specialized activities like skydiving, and "power modes" being exclusive to the Fenix. Also slightly more detailed mapping. Hope that helps!

      @@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for the reply! I'm surprised the watches are the same price during the holidays! Too bad they did not discount the 945 too. Thanks again for the help and awesome comparison review!

    Thank you, great video! I prefer the weight, look and thickness of the 945, but since a main use for me will be map navigation, I prefer the larger screen of the Fenix 6 (other than mapping, I don't care much about the screen size). During mountain biking, backcountry skiing or hiking, I would like to regularly check if I am on the right track and where it continues. I will plan my tracks in advance with third party software and use probably OpenTopoMap instead of Garmin maps on the watch. Which one would you choose with that in mind? Is the smaller 945 screen suitable to stay on the right track when moving a bit faster than walking or running?

    • @ThePianoHorse

      Also, both watches (945 and 6 Pro standard) cost approximately the same here at the moment.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 года назад +1

      The screen difference isn't significant enough to be a deal breaker. 1.2" vs 1.3" isn't night and day. That said, a bigger screen is always better but I don't have issues navigating a course with my Fenix 6s or 945. Hope that helps!

    woot has a sale going on where the fenix 6 sapphire is $495. figured it was hard to beat versus the forerunner 945 at that price.
