I watched this last night, made this soup tonight for supper, and can't wait until tomorrow when I know it will be even better than today!
All with things I already had in my kitchen. I love seeing my jars of soup all lined up and ready for quick meals. Thank you for this great recipe.

This is absolutely wonderful, it tastes just like the pea soup I had years ago with ham (I added the liquid smoke).

Split Pea Soup has always been my favourite since I was a child. It took hours when my Mom cooked it. Thanks for showing me how quick it could be. I have to invest in a Pressure cooker. Mom had one but hardly used it for soup. Mostly for tender meats, The benefits are numerous - retaining vitamins, saving time, and more flavour. Thanks again.

This is great 👍. Made to take to visit family because they are not plant based. My husband (also not plant based) really liked it as well.

    Thanks for the recipe.
I also love adding in sliced fresh mushrooms for an added pop of flavor.
My family likes the fried green split peas really disintegrated, so the split pea soup is very very thick at the beginning, and not have to wait until the next day for the split pea soup to become thicker.

This tastes SO much better the next day,,,,can't sress that enough. I live alone so I cook this and freeze immediately. I'll pull one and put it in the fridge two days before I intend to actually eat it.

I think most soups and stews improve with age. Just like us women! :)

I am going to add Liquid Smoke to this! I've had it the plain way but like the idea of the liquid smoke! Thanks Chef AJ!

The electric ones are very safe. If you buy the Instant pot and use the code AJ you get $45 off. You only need to rinse the bulk ones, not the bagged ones.

This turned out good flavor, but watery and peas are not cooked, still hard. So I put it back in for another 8 minutes. Hope that works. I wonder if its because I let the steam out as soon as it was done. Maybe I should have let it steam more naturally and cool down on its own. I just was hungry and wanted to try it.

Maybe not the Whole Foods bag you seem to be using, but if you use regular split peas in a bag from Jack Rabbit or Goya or any other brand from a supermarket, you should sort and rinse. It says to right on the bag, in fact.

I've been afraid to use a pressure cooker, too, because I imagine the lid blowing off while it's under pressure. But I think you've convinced me I need one! Do you have to sort and rinse all dried beans and peas that you buy?

Were those split peas pre-washed? I once bit down on a rock because I’m sure the person did not wash and sort the peas. A very important step with any meal that had dry legumes, lentils and split peas. Cheers

Liquid smoke does add nice flavor but scares me more than a bit. Industrial bong water? The companies say, "trust us" but hard to believe that the very carcinogenic smoke it is made from somehow becomes totally safe in the end product. Perhaps small amounts no big deal for risk but somehow...I guess I'll stick to drinking my bong water ;)

Don't you have to soak the split peas overnight first, or just throw them in as is?

    • @nora22000
      @nora22000 5 лет назад

June Siegel-Hill No soaking required for split peas or lentils. Beans do require soaking.

    • @CHEFAJ
