After a bunch of additional testing I've been having issues getting Dolby Atmos from several apps. The only app that appears to be working properly is Netflix. I'm not getting Dolby Atmos in Plex, Disney+, or Amazon Prime. I believe this might be software related so hopefully a fix comes soon.
I have one and really like it, but I have been having a similar issue with Dolby Vision. It works in Netflix, but with other apps like Disney+, I can only get HDR10. I then realized it kept automatically reverting the device display settings to 1080P 60hz, and though the device (and my Tv) is capable of 4K 60hz, the highest it will let me set it is 4K 30hz. I put a ticket in with Google, and it sounds like this is a somewhat common issue right now and they are working on correcting it with software updates.

Brother Chris, how much RAM is under the hood? And, is there any hardware difference between the present USA and present UK and present and upcming EU ( hopefully soon for the Netherlands ) models? Bcoz a guy from the UK said the internal storage was only 4Gb.
Hey uh, you are occasionally showing the Tube, which is indeed €100 more, but the device you are mostly showcasing and talking about is the €250 priced Nvidia Shield Pro, not the tube, the tube is a different device with less power and i think only supports 32 bits apps, also has no usb or usb-c port. The way you made your review can make people think these specs apply to the tube. Btw, in my country that tube costs €98 now (well, it was not easily available anyway, might be just the stores, and import prices) not sure about other places though. Another device that Google's device could be compared to is the Mi Box S, which runs Android TV. Btw, i think i heard people saying casting kinda sucked with the Chromecast TV, were you could only cast from the account you linked to it, and not with any person's phone with their own account you wanted, like with the Chromecast V3 or Ultra, not sure if true though. And can one connect a bluetooth headset and any controller to it (Steam Controller, Xbox, PS4, etc), like for say if you installed Steam Link (app) or Moonlight to stream games from your PC, or is it restricted so only Google's remote can use Bluetooth? Also i see people saying Chromecast TV does not support lossless Atmos or TrueHD and no MPEG2 hw decoding, if that's important for someone.
what does the chromecast have to compete with nvidia shields 1080p to 4k upscaling ? Linus tech tips had a video around 9 months ago where he said you comfortly could cancel your 4k netflix and just get the 1080p instead
You don’t have to spend a 100 dollars to get hdr . Amazon 4K stick . Amazon technically is a form of android. And the TiVo 4K stream and the mi box. There are plenty for under 100 dollars. But great video

It's lame how the chromcast doesn't get powered by the TV alone. You need to plug it into the TV and a wall outlet at the same time which adds more cables around your tv

Not actually a Chromecast because it has a remote (I'm starting to get annoyed by how many people are okay with this bastardization of the brand, the whole selling point is that you DON'T need a clunky outdated remote to slow you down). Anyhow, are you able to verify that it can play RUclips 4K HDR? (the only thing the mighty Shield can't do)? Thank you for your hard work!
It doesn't lose any functionality compared to the original chromecast. It only adds an interface and remote. You can still ditch remote and rely completely on casting if you want. I have not tried hdr through RUclips yet. I'll have to test that out.
I know, but playback when casting can be clunky compared to a Chromecast and frame pacing isn't perfect like it is on Chromecast due to inherent limitations in Android. Plus, I cannot comprehend how people prefer limiting themselves with a remote when it's SO much more efficient to browse on a phone.
If all you're doing is basic streaming, the difference may not be worth it. I use the AI upscaler on my huge plex library that takes forever to load on other devices. I also use it to stream games from my gaming PC. Its great for stuff like that.
I love my shield TV. The only con is the remote. I can't use the select button because when I try I jut hit a directional button instead. A very weird design. Good thing I could pair a Fire TV remote with it. I just can't understand why they won't make a functional remote. ???
Could you compare Stadia sideloaded on Chromecast with Google TV and on Nvidia Shield? :) A question a lot of Stadians have, is: Do we get a perfect performance for Cloud Gaming with the new Chromecast or is there a difference from the better hardware of Nvidia Shield? :) A good comparison video would be awesome, I didnt find any with this topic. But in the Stadia Community we are looking for an answer to that question. ^^
I would say there shield is going to be way better but i would imagine the chrome cast can play it also being that Google made this jus for that. Funny thing is there isn't support yet. Keyword yet
High @Chris Majestic, great video as always. My major dissapointment with the shield TV was the search function. For 150 I could not believe how bad it was. All it came up with was results from Netflix and maybe Google play and completely ignored all other apps! Sounds like this has been solved on Google TV? Is there any app it does not include in the results?
Personally finding ccwgtv's voice search is crap, ask to play a song in Spotify and it only leads to RUclips, films it leads to Netflix only. Looked in the settings and the only app it claims to be able to search for results is Netflix. 🤷🏻♂️
Most streaming apps cannot be moved from internal storage to expandable storage on Android TV, and 8 GB is simply not enough. I regret getting the Chromecast instead of the Shield Pro.
No pause button? Even the Nexus Player had that! How are so many people okay with this? A regular Chromecast is so much more useful to me, I can actually pause it when I want to and seek very quickly in videos! Why do so many people want to slow themselves down with a remote?
Have been using FireTV's for years and have waited for this. I thought it would be less adds for stuff I'm not subscribed to...and yet the first row shows content I don't subscribe to. Overall hardware seems very comparable to Fire 4K. Did notice that for non Dolby sound, my amp sees fire TV at Dolby Pro Logic and it sees Google as plain digital stream and chooses 5 channel stereo. Was also looking forward to You Tube TV being integrated to home screen. Unfortunately, that doesn't work because I signed into YTTV with a different Gmail. In order for it to integrate the primary user has to be the same one signed into YTTV. I wouldn't consider it an upgrade. Just pleasantly different. Sadly neither one seems to be able to control the power for my old school Onkyo amp.

I just got epson 4010 projector. Is the shield the best to stream netflix, disney +?
If all you're doing is basic streaming, the difference may not be worth it. I use the AI upscaler on my huge plex library that takes forever to load on other devices. I also use it to stream games from my gaming PC. Its great for stuff like that.
How is the screen mirroring with it does it work well??
curious if the nvidia shield remote works with chromecast with google tv?
Hello
Where can we purchase this product?
the dpad works for pause and fastford/rewind so thats not a big issue
I love my shield TV. The only con is the remote. I can't use the select button because when I try I jut hit a directional button instead. A very weird design. Good thing I could pair a Fire TV remote with it. I just can't understand why they won't make a functional remote. ???
Could you compare Stadia sideloaded on Chromecast with Google TV and on Nvidia Shield? :)
A question a lot of Stadians have, is: Do we get a perfect performance for Cloud Gaming with the new Chromecast or is there a difference from the better hardware of Nvidia Shield? :)
A good comparison video would be awesome, I didnt find any with this topic. But in the Stadia Community we are looking for an answer to that question. ^^
I would say there shield is going to be way better but i would imagine the chrome cast can play it also being that Google made this jus for that. Funny thing is there isn't support yet. Keyword yet
Does it support atoms ?
High @Chris Majestic, great video as always. My major dissapointment with the shield TV was the search function. For 150 I could not believe how bad it was. All it came up with was results from Netflix and maybe Google play and completely ignored all other apps! Sounds like this has been solved on Google TV? Is there any app it does not include in the results?
Plex 😫😫
Dude use the app called realgood and then say the search sucks cause it's light years better with that app
Personally finding ccwgtv's voice search is crap, ask to play a song in Spotify and it only leads to RUclips, films it leads to Netflix only. Looked in the settings and the only app it claims to be able to search for results is Netflix. 🤷🏻♂️
Is the Apple TV+ app on the shield?
The vudu app on the shield bugs me. Filters by release date is backwards and youtube app doesnt have hdr mode.
Excellent video!!
Most streaming apps cannot be moved from internal storage to expandable storage on Android TV, and 8 GB is simply not enough. I regret getting the Chromecast instead of the Shield Pro.
Hey Chris is hdcp 2.3 something we need to upgrade to????
Not unless you plan on playing 8k content
@@ChrisMajestic thanks
Anyone know if the new chromecast down mixes Dolby Digital Plus to regular Dolby Digital? My old receiver won’t play DD+ 😰
So what do you recommend big bro?
The tivo which should be compared not the Chromecast. The ui is terrible while Android tv is going strong
@@dmo848 thanks bro so the iptv works better on the nvidia shield tv pro?
No pause button? Even the Nexus Player had that! How are so many people okay with this? A regular Chromecast is so much more useful to me, I can actually pause it when I want to and seek very quickly in videos! Why do so many people want to slow themselves down with a remote?
does it work well with airpods?
What game was that at the 6min mark
Can you stream Nvidia GeForce Now and STADIA on the Google TV?
Geforce now yes, stadia not sure but most likely
