It kind of reminds me of a jacket from the 90s. Almost a faded sort of look but I like that its durable. Not sure it exactly looks like a $350 piece but perhaps seeing one in real life will change my mind.
Just got the hoodless version of this and I love it. I have a 10 plus year old columbia coat that is twice the weight, is bulky, and no where near as warm or stylish. By far my fav winter coat I have ever had.
What’s a popular jacket you would compare to in warmth? I’ve had the Patagonia micropuff and REI 650 down jacket. I’m looking for something similar in warmth if not warmer but much more rugged, durable and the look of this one 👌
Headed to crested butte and Aspen and would like to pick this up in person in short time. What store in Colorado did you find this? Thanks for the help!
Have you reapplied wax to it and how did it turn out? I have one and I’m surprised at how much it absorbs water. I’m in Alaska and even with some light snow it was making the jacket wet.
I have not done that yet. I have not had it wet out, yet. But I am sure it will eventually. Had it in a few snow events here in Colorado. Do you have maritime snow up there? How long have you had it? I will update once I reapply the wax as well. I did it with Fjallraven a few years back but have not used the KUHL yet.
Have you by chance checked out the Spyfire hoodie? I just got my very picky wife one, and now I want one too... It's the best dang looking down puffy I've ever seen
Curious to know if you have tried the Wyldefire Parka and how it compares to this. I live in a similar climate but we get wind chills down in -30 sometimes. TIA
Hello! Thanks for the nice note and great question. I have not had a chance to use the Parka, yet. That may change this winter though :) I will keep you posted if I get a chance to review that one. Man, that is COLD! The windchill for us last night (where we set up our camp usually) was -10F. I would not want to mess with much colder than that! LOL
@@Engearment If you get the Wyldfrie parka you should also test the UKON parka by Kuhl. I went with the Wyldfire Parka becasue it looks better in my opinion from a causal wear with dress clothes and good for layers. The Ukon is warm very warm but im not a fan of the finish look with different patterns. Also bought them both from Scheels up in Johnstown as I travel there frequently. Thanks for the response and lve your videos!
Great review, I just got the gray hoodless version. I actually purchased one up in Utah but they only had a large and I’m about your build and I think I definitely needed an extra large so I took it back but then they were sold out of them for a while and as it’s getting cold again, and I really hate being cold, I decided to purchase another one. You’re right about it being a good looking jacket though, and the fit really is amazing for athletic builds.
Thank you! Glad you appreciate they way it fits our builds. It’s nice that a company does that, and actually makes a great looking, and performing jacket. Hope it treats you well and keeps you warm!
Great review - how would you compare this to the Spyfire Hoody and Aktivator Hoody? Im based in San Diego but looking for a jacket for mountain/hiking trips as well as visiting the wife's family in Germany during snowy winters. Thanks for any insight!
Fun trip! Stoked for you. My wife has the Spyfire and loves it. This jacket is basically that with an additional layer of waxed cotton outer. I feel that it would handle the snow a bit better with the added protection.
@@Engearment Thanks for the reply! Sounds like the Aktivator is more suited for less snowy conditions. Was leaning towards that but now rethinking towards the Wyldefire or Spyfire for a more all-in-one option. I like the breathability these jackets provide on top of the warmth and weather resistance.
Nice review! I just picked up the Khaki colored no-hood version (wish I'd have got the hoodie now...) this past weekend. Love my Puffy Coats but also love Waxed cotton on some of my old Filson jackets. However those Filson jackets are not very warm (definitely need to layer under) and heavy heavy heavy, compared to a puffy coat. This is the perfect combo so far. I normally wear an XL Jacket but due to the very tapered fit of this one I had to go XXL. The XL was a bit tight for my 5'11" height w/ 50" chest w/36" waist. Arms are normal length and the jacket length is a tad bit long... but not too long. I'm also normally carrying a pistol, a light and other accessories on my waist so another reason I opted for the slightly more roomy XXL size. The XL fit like a custom Sports Coat on me. :)

So glad to hear that! Take care
How packable is this jacket ? Curious has how small i can get it into a carry on..
What temperature would you rate this down to?
Best jacket I ever bought. Warm light and a great fit.
Thanks for the review , because i probably would not have bought without it.
Glad I could help! And very glad you are enjoying it!

Is that color Raven or Carbon? Hard to tell outdoors in sunlight. Thanks!
Hello! Not 100% sure. I don’t have the tag anymore. I feel like it is Raven as it is black.
@@Engearment thought so. Thanks!

Do they make it in a XL TALL?, I'm 6' 4" tall and have long arms, I usually wear a 42" long in a jacket.
Hey Craig, I dont think they make a tall version. Sorry!

how heavy is this jacket compared to a more traditional puffy with similar fill?
It will be heavier due to the burlier outer material.
What's warmer in your opinion: this jacket or the stretch insulated Voyagr?
This is warmer.

How loud is the hood when it's up?
It is not loud. The material is a waxed cotton that is more pliable and quite than goretex and other hard shells. Hope that helps!
I’m sold! It is always good to have room for a sandwich!
😆 yes it is! 🥪
Do you have a guess on how many ounces of down are in the jacket?
Hello Eric. If I had to guess, I would say 3 ounces.

Hey Eric! So glad you are enjoying the Wyldfire. Good intel on the sizing too! That is going to help a lot of people. Take care!
Most of Kühl’s down isn’t warm.
