Make sure your story is clear and understandable.

Hahaha, well, yes. Good point. I guess it depends on what you’re going for.

I never write anymore but I recently started reading again after a decade long reading funk. Maybe the writing will follow eventually... Very useful tips, thanks!

Oh, totally get the reading funk! I’m often in one as well. Especially after reading a really good book. What’s on your to read list at the moment? Hope you find joy in writing again too :)

Fabulous tips! I need to get better at #1 (listening, not reading, but same idea). It's hard to get the energy to seek out new material that excites me. Water, water everywhere.
Also, I'm throwing my hat in the ring if you ever want another pair of eyes on your work! In English, at least. :D

I totally get what you’re saying! Especially in these darker times, it can be so hard to find the energy and inspiration. I think I mostly get mine from interactions with other people. So definitely not easy nowadays :)
And ooh, how I’d love to take you up on that offer! I don’t have a lot of native English “first readers”, and I’d definitely appreciate your opinion :) (and it goes without saying that I’d love to return the favor whenever you need or want it)

Spendid tips and I really appreciate you lending your expertise to those who are new to writing. For sure, it is hard enough to make what is in your head appear on a page but I can't fault any of your tips. Reading especially, I have to say, really improves your vocabulary and grammar (though some things I read make me roll my eyes over such things). Thanks for sharing and much gratitude from all those who you are helping without even knowning it.

Thanks so much for your comment! It kind of made my day :) What do you like to read mostly? Any favorites or recommendations?

@@twinklybird Well I read all sorts really. But I guess I like Fantasy/Sci-Fi most though I have read some great historical books and biographies.
In terms of writers who have influenced me, well Tolkien is a given and his contemporary C.S Lewis. I love their descriptive style but Lewis Caroll was a brilliant mathemetician and wrote wonderful stories with logical problems to solve in them.
In terms of imagination though Mary Stewarts Merlin interpretation starting with The Crystal Cave, taught me how to weave real history into an imaginary scenario which I had never contemplated before. The research you have to do is like an advenure itself and I have learnt so much history , culture and understanding of our ancestors that way. Really it makes you appreciate what culture is.
So I don't know if I can recommend stuff other than find what you like. Reading will always be a hit and miss affair but just like music if you can find that one redeeming quality in a song you hate but so many others seem to like, the better you will understand where youre real preferences and prejudices lie.
Sorry for the ramble but you ignited my passion talking about books and so have to suffer the consequences. 😀

Thanks for the tips. I've dreamed about writing (becoming a professional writer) for a long time, I need to stop dreaming and start doing it/living it.

Thanks for the tips, stumbled on your video by accident and it's a pleasant surprise. How many years (and what intensity/frequency) of writing would you consider necessary for someone to become proficient at this skill?
