  • A "yard" sale with lots of stuff and a little bit of competition. You can buy it all, but can you make money on it?

I like estate sales better than garage sales! Automatically you get a thumbs up even before I watch it. I have bought so many thrifted shirts that now if I buy one, I make myself donate one to a mission. This removes most of the guilt when I look in my closet.

Kim Kardashian's dentist's next door neighbor called and wants to buy your Jetson's Pin.😂..... The cameo with black choker is so YOU!.....I bet if you posed in those Valentine's Day PJ's in your eBay ad, , people would pay big bucks for them! 💵

The cameo looks like something from the 1920s that was either repaired by an amateur or frankensteined. The charm bracelet might be .800 silver instead of sterling - look carefully and check the clasp under a loupe. It may be one of the goldtoned ones.

My girlfriend buys and sells vintage T shirts and does very good. Sold one for almost $1,000 was from an ‘80s motorcycle shop and showed some bikers setting on a porch, apparently by a noted biker artist and rare. She got it for nothing , was left behind in the trash at an auction
We sold it on eBay and it attracted the attention of some foreign buyer who would win it but not pay , we relisted it only for him to do it again under another name. Idea is the thinking the price would get lower.
The artwork had a confederate flag the size of your thumbnail and a person reported it with eBay stopping the auction.
Interesting the next day a person listed another identical shirt with a $1,200 buy it now and sold it. …I think he was the one that reported our shirt.
    She finally sold it privately
Quite the cut throat business I think.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад +5

I've heard of that occurring, where you and only one other seller are selling something rare, so they report your listing (especially if you are priced lower), just so it gets removed. eBay can be a crazy world at times!

I buy all my T shirts at Goodwill. They are better quality and sometimes brand new. Second place is Walmart because the warped sense of humor of the T shirt designers matches mine. It is so hot here in TX,108 actual degrees, that my shirt is stiff with sweat! 8 weeks of over 100 degree actual heat plus orange air, plus red flag warnings. HAD3S. NO RELIEF IN SIGHT.
WOW WOW WOW. LOOK AT ALL THAT JEWELRY. I liked the T shirts too. What a bonanza.
You picked up the album " Iron Butterfly". I'm having the theme song played at my funeral !
Is the owner of the albums still alive? I'll be right over. I feel a party like nonother coming on.
Renee, have you ever gone back the day after the sale is over? Ow they want it gone. I know people who have gone back and payed 50 bucks for a toy collection that on the last day was 500 bucks.

My mind keeps thinking of the scene in Disney's Bedknobs & Broomsticks, where they are on the search for the Spells of Astoroth book, so they venture to Portobello Road in London, in hopes of finding the book. All the old carts filled with books, a bibliophile's dream! Now I just thought of the vast difference between book collecting then & now, all thanks to technology. So much to think about in regards to something as "simple" as a book! Hope that your appointment goes well!

With absolutely no guarantee that they will sell it, it never fails to amuse!

Yes! The exact same thing happens here. Sometimes before we leave the market, we take a look and the item might or might not be on their table. I look at it as - I've made my money back, I've sold it at a decent price, and good for them if they are able to turn around and make some money as well. It really is a cycle with market inventory... from one table, to the next, to the next!

Kinda crazy reply ... I’m about your age and live in SF ... California toe-head and find myself watching you a few hours a week because of your NJ accent and manor ... different from the left coast treasure hunters I meet ...
nothing much happens in your videos but I find them interesting - I like flea-markets and urban treasure hunting and your presentation/discussion/viewer questions are interesting and relaxing ... and I like Yellowstone too ... hahaha ...
ANYWAY... Yup that was definitely a SF summer tourist sweatshirt the shops sell ... kinda ugly for us locals ... Tourist think its warm on the CA coast in the summer but as Mark Twain said the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco ...
Love your stuff ... just had to chime in after all this time ...

My aunt passed away she gave her heirs money as in credit they could spend at her estate sale after everything was sold the money remaining was paid off in cash from the proceeds of her estate sale. Win win they got what they wanted plus cash for the remainder pretty cool

Hi - seems like in all of life, it's who you know! That cameo locket was pretty slick - even if it is a DIY, I wonder if that might increase the value because of uniqueness / scarcity? Black velvet band reminded me of the old ghost story where the lady wore a choker constantly, until one night her husband unfastened it when she was sleeping and her head rolled off :). Photo album looked interesting. Shirts were nice too - not things which I know much about so enjoyed your explanations. Wasn't Botany 500 one of the groups that provided prizes on The Price Is Right? Or am I confused? Weather & sale prospects look dismal here this weekend, but I really need to cull some of the things I already have that can be sold. Have a great Thursday afternoon!

Was that story in one of the "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" books? I forgot about it until you mentioned the story, but it does sound familiar! Rainy days are great for staying in and going through your piles. You'll be happy to have made some room for the next good sale! (Speaking of which, an estate sale tomorrow, run by the same company as this sale, which should mean digging! Parking looks to be a bit of a hassle, so I'll be getting there early to get a spot!)

@@PaperandMoose That's not where I first read it, but you got me intrigued so I looked it up. It wasn't in "Scary Stories ...," but it was in a 1984 easy reader version of "Scary Stories ..." by the same author (Alvin Schwartz) called, "In a Dark, Dark Room and other Scary Stories." The story has been around for a long time and has been titled many ways; in "Dark, Dark Room ...," it's called, "The Green Ribbon." Apparently the story dates to 17th century France & the French Revolution when it was popular as an oral tale. At a time when political opponents agreed with the King in, "Alice in Wonderland," that, "... anything that had a head could be beheaded," it became fashionable to wear a red velvet ribbon to symbolize revolutionaries who had been guillotined. In 1824 Washington Irving further popularized the story and brought it to the US when he published a version of the story titled, "The Adventure of the German Student," in his collection called "Tales of a Traveller." The lore is that Thomas Moore (Irish poet / lyricist) told Irving the story. (Some other sources credit Alexander Dumas with the first publication). In 1970, Ann McGovern published a book called, "Ghostly Fun," which contained the story under the title, "The Velvet Ribbon." In McGovern's telling, the husband cuts the ribbon off - previous versions had the wife removing it on her own. I think this is where I first read it. Despite this history, Alvin Schwartz is credited with re-popularizing the story for current generations in 1984 in, "Dark, Dark Room ..." Well, I have probably bored you into a stupor but I had fun looking that all up! Thanks!
