I've owned the new Mazda 3 AWD and I took it on a trip to Knoxville and was getting 37mpg to 40mpg via the ontrip computer. My AC cools great and I have had no issues. I've owned mine for just over 2 months.
People asking for the transmission. From what I've seen/read. The torque converter has a locking ratio/clutch. Mazda designed it to lock as soon as possible which means more power to the wheels and less loss on rotation (look up torque converter if you don't know how they work). This helps fuel economy, and power from the engine. That's what the jerking is. I've only ever felt it in a standard transmissions.
The lesson I learned from living for years in Austin. Go into your air conditioned home in early June and don't come out until late October. I learned a similar lesson living in Ithaca, New York. Except in Ithaca you barricaded yourself in late November and came out in May.
I have experienced this in my 2013 Mazda 6 2.5 L engine. The car at low speeds in gears 1 and 2 downshifts violently and then accelerates briskly. Tbh I like that it does that and makes it feel much more powerful than it actually is.
I have been following your channel for a while now and i just pulled this video up as i was looking around at some relatively new, used vehicles. Living in Georgia a working powerful AC is a must have.. especially since i am a northerner. All of your negatives were legitimate and this is the first i have heard about the AC issue. I think i will be dropping this one from my list due to your video, thank you for the honest review.
I appreciate you following snd thanks for watching! The A/C thing was a big surprise. It was either this video or my longer review where a few people commented mentioning that too. I would look on some Forums to see if it’s a common issue or not or if you’re looking during the summertime maybe see if they’ll let you take it out for several hours. Thanks again for watching!
Just note the back seats have vents under the seats which means you have to put the feet and top vent setting, makes a world of a difference. (I own one)
I’ve had my 2019 Mazda3 since July of 2020 and my AC has made me literally freeze here during the summer in southern Cali lol. I’m thinking that maybe your AC may have an issue or maybe my AC is on crack but just wanted to share my experience.
Thanks for the likes and dislikes list about the Mazda 3. Seems like an overall a solid car. Also, glad you talked about things like the AC. Pretty interesting comment that not a lot of people mention.
Mazda 3 premium owner here......the navigation comes standard on the premium package, just not on lower trims and if you have the Mazda connect app, you can remote start your vehicle! I do very much appreciate the fact you did not bash the non-touch screen display.....every reviewer bashes it without living with it, I love it!
The dislike on the AC is 100% true. I opened up the hood on my loaner 2019 Mazda 3 and it only has one fan... My 2017 Mazda 3 has two fans that are almost the size of the 2019s one large one.
Here in Australia we get choice of manual or auto in all Mazda 3 levels of sedan and hatchback, we also get rear ac vents as standard. Not sure why Mazda restricts options in the US as it is a much larger market. However, we only have the FWD option with either a 2.0l or 2.5l engine and will also have the new Skyactive X engine option available later this year.
The US market 3 differs from the Canadian market 3. Cloth IS standard on the base 3 hatch, leatherette is an upgrade. then premium leather is an upgrade on top of that, but only if you move to the GT trim.
It is funny how huge the difference between the European (German) and American trims are. E.g. Navigation is standard (even in the base model) heated steering wheel is available in the high end model and the manual gearbox is offered through all trims in the European Mazda3.
That's funny we're a Mazda family and I've been thinking to upgrade to a new Mazda 3 but you made a great point on all the features that you don't like, I agree with all of that, and yes the new Civic sport gives 40 on the freeway and 36 in the city!! Thank you and live the video!!
Excellent review here. I love this car from just seeing it online and having owned the twin turbo RX7 and owning a 2015 Club Edition Miata now but as a Texan, the A/C thing is an absolute deal killer for me.My next car Im going to pay off within a year and drive it for 15 years with no car payment so heck no I dont wanna deal with a lame AC!
Thank you! The A/C was definitely a bummer. If you really like it definitely try to take it out for an extended period of time to really test out the A/C and heat to see if it works for you. My biggest gripe was for my backseat passengers but still. It’s an awesome car otherwise.
@@PrimeAutotainment If I could get another response...Im about to be driving around a lot for my career. Going on appts so I want something that has a comfortable ride, looks great and will last me a long time. Ive really been leaning towards a low mileage (25k) 2017 Infiniti QX30. Theyre around $22k-$23K. Which would you go with if you were me?
That’s tough cuz I’ve never driven the QX30. I see them around a fair amount. Unless I was pretty impressed wth the QX30 I think I’d still go with this Mazda 3 all depending on what price you can grab one at. Wish I could tell you more if I had driven it though
We got a Mazda 3 Hatchback Preferred FWD for $22K plus tax in June. And that was even after $300 dark metallic grey paint option. I couldn't think of a better car for the price. A/C is fine for us so far in Cali but we are definitely adding tint to the windows and a factory sunshade to help.
No rear vents? in Aus we get them and the aircon is actually really good. In fact I thought it was strong, must be a US model thing. Mazda may have changed it for the Australian market since they sell really well over here.
The jerkiness could be because of the transmission having a torque converter AND a single clutch. I haven't had ANY hesitation in mine(16,350km in), but get the jerkiness sometimes. as for the ac, my backseat passengers have never complained. the hatch base DOES come with cloth. I paid for the upgrade to leatherette. I'm starting to wonder if the US market 3s are different than the Canadian market.
God i freakin love my 2019 mazda3 hatch. Its soooooo nice and comfortable. I commute 85 miles total m-f. Mostly freeways/toll roads. I get 32/mpg on the 2wd version. The interior, quietness, and just nice feeling ride is what im in love with.
In the U.S. at least, Mazda limits the customization by making options available through a few group packages only. The exception being dealer installable ones like auto dimming mirror + Homelink, and navigation. The latter is enabled via an SD card. Perhaps that strategy makes production more efficient. The new 3 is a great car. It would be that much better if some options available elsewhere could be had stateside. On the top of my list would be filling the two blank buttons left of the steering wheel with parking sensors and front/360° camera. Those are available in other countries. But these are minor gripes in a car very well equiped to compete well above it's class and in a market no longer very interested in non-SUV's.
Good review. As an owner of a 2014 hatchback with a manual, I really liked the new 2019 with a manual when I drove it back in June. But I was quite disappointed with the handling. While you don't notice the cheaper torsion beam rear suspension when it comes to the ride quality, you definitely feel it in the handling department. I noticed heavier steering versus my car, but the steering was slower to respond and I think they took away G-Vectoring for the redesign. I drove a 2019 CX5 around the same time with G-Vectoring and it handled even better than my car despite the higher ride height and heavier weight. Hopefully Mazda will correct the steering on this car for their own sake sooner rather than later. Once they do, I would gladly upgrade to the new Skyactiv X with a 6 speed manual.
I've had nothing but issues with my 2019 Mazda 3 Hatchback. The Kingston Mazda dealership was unable to fix my heat for over a year. It was in the shop several times. Try defrosting you car in -30 weather without working heat. Air conditioning was acting up as well. My driver side door was catching on the rear door actually causing me to be stuck in my car unable to get out some days. The trunk wouldn't shut sometimes. The back up camera worked intermittently. The automatic breaking feature would just go off when I was going around a bend in a road and a car was coming the opposite way. That gave me a fricken heart attach I tell you. My stereo would randomly turn off while I was driving where I'd have to pull over and turn my car on and off to get the stereo to turn back on. Seat belt beep would go off telling me to put my seat belt on when my seat belt was on lol. This only happened for a couple days then never again. Everything happened intermittently and even with video evidence of these issues Mazda still wanted to charge me to inspect the car. After all these issue plus more within the first few months of buying the car, Mazda still refused to swop me out into a demo which made me wonder if all the cars had this many issues as well that's why they didn't feel that would solve my issues. My car has been in the shop so many times I was relieved to move within walking distance of the dealership because they also do not give you a loaner car when your brand new car is in the shop constantly. I will NEVER, I mean never buy another Mazda no matter what the price is. The shitty part is I leased it for four years and they only have warranty for three and refuse to let me out of my lease without paying 5k.
Oh no that’s terrible! I’m so sorry to hear that. There’s definitely gotta be something you can do like maybe look into the lemon law for problematic vehicles. That’s awful going through an experience like that. I had a new Chevy Malibu one time and it had problem after problem and stranded me a few times all before 60k miles. Good luck with getting those things resolved... 😕
@@PrimeAutotainment I tried. I've called Mazda Canada too. I just wanted to be put into another car. Even a demo not as nice would be fine. I'm a single mom and I lose a day of work every time my car is in the shop. I just can't believe they refuse to even let me out of my lease. I buy brand new because I need a dependable car for my job. I probably won't ever buy another Mazda after all these issues. I've owned other brand new cars and never had an issue. They put too much money into the look of the car where the tech and features are just garbage. I should have saved my money and got the base model at least.
@@kassy4480 that’s awful. Have you tried going to a different mazda dealer...or even calling one to say what’s going on and asking if they’ll provide a temporary loaner? I feel for you, can’t believe how bad that service is. Especially a car within its warranty period. Sorry again
@@PrimeAutotainment Yes, the one in Belleville is great. The guys offered to come get my car so I didn’t have to drive an hour there and back. Still doesn’t change the fact my car always has a new issue. For example now it makes a clunk sound when I break. 😒
@@kassy4480glad they did that but still. Sounds like hell. I didn’t look too much but there’s no “lemon law” in Canada but this website takes about a program that you can look at if you’ve talked to the dealer and manufacturer, which you have - an arbitration plan even for leased vehicles. Here’s the site if it helps at all: ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc.nsf/eng/ca02998.html
My 2005 Mazda 3 air conditioner never was good from day 1. Now it doesn’t work at all. I was going to get 2019 model, but after seeing this video, I don’t want to go through that again.
Though, it’s interesting that Mazda is most popular car brand in Australia. And summers in Australia can get *really* hot. I myself never drove Mazda 3, so subjectively I do not know if AC would be good enough for me, but I know that some people have been complaining about AC “not being cool enough” since 2005.
Great video man, im thinking about getting this, disappointing about the manual tho, could've gave subie a run for their money. And personally I feel like navigation is almost pointless now. i remember really really wanting navi when I got my first car and now its just way more convenient to just use your phone. Usually automakers don't understand the importance of a faster interface so they cycle the same system for a bunch of years dating themselves.
This sounds very needy but If they offered this as a hatchback, awd, manual transmission and with a turbocharger I would 100% get this cause I’m in love with the look of the car. Like I want the manual but I also want the awd and it’s stupid how you can’t have both. Hopefully in the future they do this.
It's only stupid if you know nothing of the design and cost. They don't have a manual transmission that can handle the turbo. That's R&D money for a transmission that hardly anyone buys anymore. They also have to completely redesign the car so that the manual functions properly with the power band of the engine. The automatic shifts early, this doesn't work when the user is in control of the shifts. Basically it's just not worth the cost for less than like 9% of all cars on the road. At least in Canada.
Tried on the new Mazda 3 & Mazda 3 2019 (2nd hand). Found not big difference. Struggling between Mazda 3 2L 2019 & CLA 180 AMG 2016. Thoughts? Price differ by RM 10k, no budget for new Mazda :(
The biggest selling point of this car is it's really nice and quiet. Outside of aesthetic and NVH, everything else is either average or below average. Subaru has a cheaper AWD car.
I agree with your last gripe. I have the premium hatchback with the manual and for the price they are charging they should have included the navigation and auto dimming mirror, heck even cooled seats. Because at the top trim level it definitely feels like it’s missing some features. Especially since the top trim in other markets get those features.
Maxfli82 I had the same struggles when I got the topmodel from the CX-5 in the Netherlands.. 1 year later they add everything they had in Asia, like cooled seats, head up display in the windscreen (instead of plastic screen), radar cruise control. For the same price I paid! 1 year later, I feel screwed by Mazda but still love them tho..
I agree. I bought my Mazda 3 premium hatch 2 months ago. But I also got a terrific deal on it. I was only 1 of 2 customers in the dealership for the three hours I was there. Everything was closed bc Covid. Knowing that I just waited it out and finally was given a sweeeeeet deal.
@@AMR15H even Mazda3 for 2020 comes with like 3 additional safety features over 2019 for almost the same price. I think these are present on all Select trims and above for U.S. (note hatchback base trim starts at Select level, but not for sedan). Was looking at a pre-owned 2019, but new turned out to be a better deal due to 0% rate
The A.C has been a big issue for me since I bought this car. My newborn is drenched in sweat when I pull him out of the car seat even when the A.C is blasting, unacceptable for a 30k car. It's almost enough for me to trade it.
Dang I’m sorry to hear that! That’s a bummer. One idea if you keep the car, and idk how well these work because I’ve never used one, but have you seen those hoses that hook up to a vent and go to the backseat for the baby? Might be worth a look
That's horrible. My car is in the shop now because of the ac. It just doesnt cool enough. I thought it was a problem just for us but after reading around looks like its a design defect. Idk if we have any options to this. A 30k car. So ridiculous.
Interesting to see the huge difference with this vehicle across regions. I'm in Australia and I have a mid tier Mazda 3 G20 Touring (2.0) 2020. I have auto dimming mirrors, rear AC vents and smart key as standard. We also have heated steering wheels on higher end models. All good stuff, but no AWD in Aus! Very jealous of the North American market getting this.
The "poor" mileage is not that bad for an awd 2.5 L engine. It's all about the displacement. Compare the car to similar engines, not 1.5 L engines. I have this car in Fwd 6 speed manual, and the AC reaches back occupants just fine. I consider my car nearly a perfect car for the segment!
I'm trading in to get a Mazda 3 Sport GT, and was disappointed about the no heated steering wheel but it seems that's only a US thing. Took one out for a test drive yesterday and here in Canada, heated steering wheel is still available. The empty/blank button to the left of the drivers side heated seats has the heated steering wheel button.
Yes you are right! I live in Canada and i just bought the exact same looking car as Prime Autotainnement and I have the heated steering wheel. It's really a U.S. thing to not have this option available for them.
When it comes to the mgp battles, those competitors with cvt are no way in hell reaching those mpg numbers. Especially ones with low power and cvt. You’ll mashing the throttle all the time to keep up with traffic or to get moving with laggy cvt’s
I can’t justify the awd in the Mazda 233 lbs weight penalty is just not worth it. Manual fwd for me. And I live in Canada with a good set of winter tires and a little bit of skill there’s no place you can’t go with a fwd car. Unless the snow gets over 2 feet and roads haven’t been plowed yet. But how often does that really happen anymore honestly.... Drive around all year long with a fat guy in the back seat for the 3 times a year you can pull away from a light a little faster.
Though it's a nice car... I feel like Mazda has priced the formerly econ fun car out of reach for many buyers.....imma elsewhere now...perhaps Honda Civic/Insight or Toyota Corolla or Hyundai
The funny thing is that in Italy (maybe in Europe as well) you have to pay a 2.000 euros premium to get te automatic gearshift. Manual gearshift is standard
I picked up my 2019 Premium hatch last month and have experienced the low rpm jerkiness between 1000-2000 RPM, very annoying in stop and go city traffic. Taking mine to the dealer this week to have it checked out. I was definitely disappointed that this is a common issue given Mazda’s fairly good reliability reputation. If they can correct that I will say it’s still the king in it’s segment. I love the interior and the driving dynamics and pretty much everything else about it!
Thanks for sharing that. Hopefully they take care of it for you! Stay persistent and if enough people complain they’ll do something. Enjoy it otherwise!
Prime Autotainment I hope so! I still have faith in them so I’m hoping it’ll be corrected. Thanks for the response! I’ll post an update when I find out what happens!
Prime Autotainment it reminds me of the time my friend bought a new bmw but the NEW redesign came out so he got it... except they removed the keyless entry. Like.. makes no sense!!! Either they make poor decisions or they have a new team and that team forgot to do research to know what would exactly be an upgrade on the new models
Question, at 2:00 I can see that your vehicle recognizes a stop sign. I have the exact the same car that you are driving, only difference is that is the 2020 model, but it doesn't have traffic sign recognition. It can only recognize speed limit signs. Is there any setting or change from the 2019 to the 2020 that was taken away or that I am not seeing?
It's a shame US buyers doesn't get more manual transmission options, here in europe we get like manual option in all but the Luxury package FWD trim for both Hatch and Sedan.
Enjoyed the video thanks. I agree with all of your points, i also have some very annoying creaks and rattles in the interior dash area which really makes me think of trading in the car.
So I have a 15 Mazda 3 and I was going to trade it in for a 2021 Mazda 3 hatch. Im currently in Florida and got the hatch for a rental and I like everything about it EXCEPT the "push start". Have to hold the key next to the button to start it. Thought it was a low battery but turns out thats just how it is.
I just bought one! And I love it! My only dislikes are de mirrors which it doesn’t tells you accurately how far or close a car is. And there is a lot of blind spots. I need to get used to that
The blind spot measures distance and speed of the other vehicles. If you are not going to hit them and going faster than said vehicle it won't trip. If they are going the same speed or faster than you it will trip. It's not really a flaw or accuracy thing. Its more of letting you know "you could hit this" at your current state of flow and beware of lane change.
I live in South Texas and I’m really worried about the a/c circulation now. Still on the fence about this car. I wouldn’t say that’s a petty dislike at all. That’s important. The Australian market gets the rear air vents but we don’t, which is really disappointing. My current vehicle doesn’t have rear air vents either, but my front air vents point directly down the middle to the back!
Dang I wonder why they get them and we don’t, bummer! If I were you I’d definitely try it out on a hot day. When it was just me I was ok but with others it was tough...definitely not as good as other cars though
I had a 2017 base and then upgraded to 2018 gt , the AC was cold as hell in 2017, and I had to leave it on the highest set up, like half bar right before neutral, and 2018 even at the lowest setting(60 degrees) and still not blowing as cold on a hot day in North Carolina. It's not making sense since 2018 was not changed much from 2017 design wise...
In Mazda 3 hatchback reviews that I’ve seen in the past it mentions that there’s not enough headroom in the rear seats for someone about six foot tall or more. Also, there’s not enough visibility towards the rear because of the oversized c-pillars.
Bought a premium truck recently, but craving a small car on the side. Went to a Mazda dealership and saw a red Mazda 3 hatch that absolutely love. MRSP is at $26k before tax so I made an offer for $22,5 out the door in cash. Dealership is on the fence. What do y’all think? Did I low ball them?
This is a really nice video that I have only seen one other video on (like/dislike format). I don't know why, but I keep looking into a sure reason not to buy this car. And to be frank, I can't find one. A/C circulation? Whatever, I live up north and it is cold, so I want it on my hands. Not really super bad for me anyway. Hesitation on the transmission? Not really going to be an issue for me. I've test driven and love it. Low mpg? I can live with that. What Mazda gives in return more than makes up for it. Overall, I can't wait to buy one in polymetal gray and red interior next month.
Glad to hear it! Sometimes I get a lot of flack for these videos and others like them so I’m happy to hear it lol. I don’t blame you and totally get it. This week I’m driving the 2020 Corolla and if I was choosing between that or this Mazda3 I’d go Mazda. Also, excellent choice in colors 😁👌
I had a 2005 Mazda 6 a few years back (bought used in '10) and the a/c system sucked badly..and still sucked after i had a blown compressor replaced. Disappointed to hear mazda hasnt upped their climate control game, but for fellow Texans..never test drive a prospective buy in late fall, winter or early spring. You know you're going to need great a/c from May to September..and sometimes into October. It's not a luxury here, it's neccesity.
It’s true the new Mazda all Mazda’s are rich feels amazing quality and we must remember you can’t have everything at least it’s reliable quality and amazing to drive I love ❤️ Mazda the way they drive is just amazing and they last because quality is there for sure Iam looking. For the new 2020 Mazda 3 soon but iam getting the sedan style and ofcorse the GT premiere luxury package in prel white coler
There is a heated stearing wheel. Just depends on the market. Same as rear air con vents. Disappointed there are no ventilated seats, given the Mazda 6 has both heated and ventilated.
Enjoyed the video -and beautiful hatch both inside and out. A bit surprised the rear torsion beam added weight over the previous model didn't make the "dislike" list. Driving dynamics high on the "like" list as well? FYI, my '17.5 Mazda6 with the manual consistently exceeds the EPA both in the city and highway with combined i'm averaging just under 31mpgs, so the new Mazda3 might do better day-day driving as well.
Your complaint #3 could have to do with the ‘lug nut recall’ that is in the process of taking place. It’s a problem that is in the process of being fixed in 25K plus vehicles. But other people describe it as a ‘weird clicking noise’ and not a ‘hesitation’ like you do. Would you say that this hesitation sounds like a weird click? If not, then you might be describing a completely different issue.
Dang I haven’t heard of that. I don’t believe there was any clicking noise while driving so that’s interesting. It was hard for me to describe but it wasn’t all of the time
Prime Autotainment hmm, I’ll keep a lookout then. As much as I want this years Mazda3, we all know how many glitches and bugs come with new iterations of a car. May be wiser to just wait for a 2020 model, since by then most problems will be ironed out.
is your problem about the way the vents are made or the AC's cooling quality its self? ans btw in other markets it has rear vents. i and also think the these mpg numbers by a little bit harsh and it may get better
I agree with both of your lists. I can’t understand the gas per mileage either. The air conditioner is a need especially for people in the south 🥵. The interior does look nice, but it kind of mimics Toyota. Thank you as always my friend 👍
If I ever get one of these I will just all wheel drive swap a manual transmission premium and get an aftermarket exhaust and Ecu tune and I would love it
Its weird that in different countries you get different options, for example, In my country (Canada) you can get manual transmission on all models, as well as the sedan, you also get a heated steering wheel, and rear parking sensors with the trajectory thing when you turn the wheel. And ive seen that in Australia you get rear seat vents.
Nice review. I don’t find your “dislikes” to be “petty”- certainly not the transmission hesitation, nor the poor a/c performance. According to recent weather data, June 2019 was the hottest month ever recorded ON THE PLANET. I live in Georgia where 90 degree temperatures can begin in May and extend thru early November. Add in relentless humidity and this state becomes 1 big armpit. So, I would not, could not consider a car with poor performing a/c. Oh, and the fan running at top speed would make me nuts. That is one of the reasons for automatic climate control-to not have to endure fan speeds either too much or too little. Also, many complaints about new cars involve transmission issues. NOT a nitpick at all. Just look at Ford’s litigation problems over the Fiesta, the Focus and the dual clutch transmissions. As I understand it exceeds $4 billion and still rising.
I've heard from another reviewer that Mazda's a/c was inferior especially compared with Honda's. In a Honda you didn't have to crank it up full blast to achieve a maximum cooling cabin whereas in the Mazda you did. Regarding the new Mazda 3's tranny hesitation issue, I find rather odd since it's their tried & true engine for many yrs now. I have a 2017 Mazda 6 with the same 2.5 engine & I haven't experienced any problems whatsoever.
I sold my 2020 Mazda 3 as it had the hesitation issue with the transmission, even after I took the car to Mazda and they said they couldn't fault anything...
I thought I was sucking ass at driving or something, but that transmission issue was something that I have noticed and has irritated the crap out of me...like you said, I hope it’s some kind of software issue or something minor
I hate the ac. I am in fight with the shop now about it because it takes forever to cool and it's just not cold. Living in florida we suffered in the summer. It just wasn't cold enough. I thought i was the only one so i guess its a design flaw in the car.
Dang I’m sorry to hear that! Thanks for sharing that though. I’ve never noticed this with any other Mazda so it’s a shame. Are they doing anything about it for you?
@@PrimeAutotainment they are saying the ac is fine. Tomorrow we are going for a drive with a tech and we are going to show him how this isn't normal. The loaner we have from them is a cx5 and the ac in that works perfectly fine.
Natalia V good luck, i hope they can fix it and make things right for you. If they still say things are fine try to make them sit in the backseat. If still not, wait until a really hot day and try again. Keep at it as long as it’s in the warranty period. Keep me updated on how tomorrow goes if you don’t mind. 👍
@@PrimeAutotainment i appreciate it! Thanks for the tip! I have been complaining about this ac for months and I just now got someone who is sorta caring more. So let's see.
@@PrimeAutotainment so we went to the dealer but it was cold and cloudy here today so we couldn't replicate the problem. The ac was fine so it's really only a problem when its hot out. This week the weather will be warmer so they said to come back for another test drive. But it looks like they want to work with us since this is the 3rd time we have complained to them. They want to get to the bottom of it.
I really liked your video. Based on that, i am not buying mazda3. air conditioning is poor with that said, i believe heater will be poor in winters too as i get - 40s here and i also felt that weird transmission feel. Along with that god knows what issuss arrive in coming months. I have thought alot and going with used golf s not gti 2018. Premium feel inside, applecar play / android, comfortable ride, got turbo, little cheap and I can live with little outdated design of exterior.

What do you like or not like?
*Thanks for watching and have an awesome day!*
I've owned the new Mazda 3 AWD and I took it on a trip to Knoxville and was getting 37mpg to 40mpg via the ontrip computer. My AC cools great and I have had no issues. I've owned mine for just over 2 months.
Did you get rid of it?
People asking for the transmission. From what I've seen/read. The torque converter has a locking ratio/clutch. Mazda designed it to lock as soon as possible which means more power to the wheels and less loss on rotation (look up torque converter if you don't know how they work). This helps fuel economy, and power from the engine.
That's what the jerking is. I've only ever felt it in a standard transmissions.
So you don't really consider it as a flow ? Because when you are driving uphill it might seems it lacks power !
Late comment but mine jerks when I come to a stop and idk why
The lesson I learned from living for years in Austin. Go into your air conditioned home in early June and don't come out until late October. I learned a similar lesson living in Ithaca, New York. Except in Ithaca you barricaded yourself in late November and came out in May.
Haha yes! I know exactly what you mean (living in South Dakota and now DFW) 😁
Yes, need ice cold a/c in Texas that's a deal breaker.
I have experienced this in my 2013 Mazda 6 2.5 L engine. The car at low speeds in gears 1 and 2 downshifts violently and then accelerates briskly. Tbh I like that it does that and makes it feel much more powerful than it actually is.
A weak ac is a major concern for those of us in desert regions.

Yeah If anything mine gets too cold on 90 degree days. It’s a nice problem to have I guess
It’s intense lol. The heater is pretty similar
Yeah i've tested the AC on this car and it's absolutely fine
Thanks for the likes and dislikes list about the Mazda 3. Seems like an overall a solid car. Also, glad you talked about things like the AC. Pretty interesting comment that not a lot of people mention.
I’m glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
I had reservations about the AC vent layout as well. Thanks for confirming
Does yours have cylinder deactivation feature? If it does, any issue with it? engine / transmission, no issues?
The dislike on the AC is 100% true. I opened up the hood on my loaner 2019 Mazda 3 and it only has one fan... My 2017 Mazda 3 has two fans that are almost the size of the 2019s one large one.
Sly Cooper that seems odd it doesn’t have two cost cutting?
Señor Loco that is strange even 2002 mazda protege Lx has 2 fans.
@@PrimeAutotainment Thank You
We got a Mazda 3 Hatchback Preferred FWD for $22K plus tax in June.
In Germany u get a Manual Transmission with every version
Same in Canada I think, at least in Québec
@@clumsy124 Sedan manual we have, but awd manual doesnt exist I think
@@thomascanning595 ohhh that's right I forgot about the AWD part
It’s a culture thing, most locations get manuals, not here in the US, never understood why...
Not really
Just found your channel, great review!! I’m from Houston so that A/C thing with this 100 degree weather now would be painful 😣
Thank you very much! No doubt lol, any of my passengers complained the whole time, especially the ones in the back 😬
Good, honest unbiased video. Subscribed.
Thank you very much!
@@PrimeAutotainment You're welcome! Looking forward to more videos.😊👍
Joe Tabak I think there is a different package system in The US, at least compared to Australia
Slow as hell,.
Dude you have a slick looking car!
Great review honest, to the point. ✌✌✌
Thank you!
Only like!!!👌🏾💪🏾🙏Mazda!!!!
You are on point!
In the U.S. at least, Mazda limits the customization by making options available through a few group packages only.
Americans don't buy manuals anymore so that's why its only available on the high end models.
Dude wow nice car, that’s a new color? 🔥
I think it’s called Polymetal Gray 😁👍
Is there an issue with the A/C on this particular car? I have the 2.5 Turbo and the air conditioning works fantastic in 105 degree weather.
AC issue has been there since first Mazda 3. They either won’t fix it, don’t know how to fix it, or do not see it as problem at all.
That’s a shame
My 2005 Mazda 3 air conditioner never was good from day 1. Now it doesn’t work at all. I was going to get 2019 model, but after seeing this video, I don’t want to go through that again.
Though, it’s interesting that Mazda is most popular car brand in Australia. And summers in Australia can get *really* hot. I myself never drove Mazda 3, so subjectively I do not know if AC would be good enough for me, but I know that some people have been complaining about AC “not being cool enough” since 2005.
In Australia we have A/C vent at the back seat, navigation come in standard with any models
Thank you very much! For sure lol...those car NAv systems are a disaster usually lol. I also just use my phone, much better
Thoughts? Price differ by RM 10k, no budget for new Mazda :(
The second from base model has rear air vents. I’m in Australia. We don’t need heated steering wheel or seats.
That’s good to hear! Features are different here in the US even compared to our neighbors in Canada
Everyone cries for a manual yet I see no manual drivers hahah
3 months in. blend door issues, proximity key not working, door locks not working, low speed hesitation.. still love driving the car though.
Dang sorry about those issues! Definitely get it to the dealer for warranty coverage while you can. Glad you love driving it though!
The biggest selling point of this car is it's really nice and quiet. Outside of aesthetic and NVH, everything else is either average or below average. Subaru has a cheaper AWD car.
In germany you can geht a heated steering wheel but therfor we don't have the option of a sunroof.
Never heard of anyone be concerned about the AC system in a modern car, especially from a brand like Mazda. Makes me sad
@@robnorman6809 same here 1 month ago. Awesome time
Thanks for talking on the A/C. Was enough to take it off my new car list
You’re welcome...it’s a real bummer 😕
@@PrimeAutotainment Don't worry i still plan to test drive it. Manual of course
You just stated what I was thinking. Thanks
Just loving the burgundy leather on the seats and dashboard. 🤗
I think I must have that if I buy a Mazda3.
They inlcuded ac vents for the rear in their 2020 model
@@davidkarenkyriekayden That is awesome, I think I'm going to wait until 2022 and just end up getting the CX-5.
Great review! Shout out to Pensacola Beach 🙌🏼
Thank you! 😁
40mpg in my 2018 on 91 super cruise set at 65mph
The "poor" mileage is not that bad for an awd 2.5 L engine. It's all about the displacement. Compare the car to similar engines, not 1.5 L engines. I have this car in Fwd 6 speed manual, and the AC reaches back occupants just fine. I consider my car nearly a perfect car for the segment!
Thinking about getting one. Thanks 👍
AWD is NOT necessary unless you REALLY need it because of snow etc... otherwise it's a waste of MPG, and just something else to break
Nope,.. FWD is best! AWD is misleading
Love the color
Love my Mazda 3! Hoping for an EV option for the next one.
I Live in Winnipeg MB, do you think AWD is needed here?
@@GloXum AWD is not necessary, just get good winter tires
Though it's a nice car... I feel like Mazda has priced the formerly econ fun car out of reach for many buyers.....imma elsewhere now...perhaps Honda Civic/Insight or Toyota Corolla or Hyundai
The funny thing is that in Italy (maybe in Europe as well) you have to pay a 2.000 euros premium to get te automatic gearshift. Manual gearshift is standard
I got the 2018 just before last x-mas,.. and I'm sooo MAD I didn't wait for this....
That stinks but I hope you still like the 2018!
@@PrimeAutotainment Yeah, I have a beautiful grand touring 28th 18, but I will gladly trade you for that 2019
I picked up my 2019 Premium hatch last month and have experienced the low rpm jerkiness between 1000-2000 RPM, very annoying in stop and go city traffic.
Good deal and I look forward to it. Good luck!
@@stevenf5902 It's been a while here, but did either of you guys ever find a solution to this?
Why would they take away heated steering wheel?? It’s standard on some cars, available cheap on most cars and it makes no sense to do that
No kidding, especially since they had it last year too
Prime Autotainment it reminds me of the time my friend bought a new bmw but the NEW redesign came out so he got it... except they removed the keyless entry. Like.. makes no sense!!!
Nice, honest and to the point. Great review.
Its more of letting you know "you could hit this" at your current state of flow and beware of lane change.
good thing about blind spot monitors
There is wisdom in NOT buying the first year of a new model car. Let someone else make that mistake.
I wish this car was a little quicker. At least as quick as a GTI then I would jump on it.
It's not turbocharged so that'd be pretty hard
A GLI or GTI would smoke this car, lol.
The Premium Package does come with a Navigation...not too mention
For 2021 models yes, but not 2019 models like this one. It was only available as an accessory (at least in the US)
In Mazda 3 hatchback reviews that I’ve seen in the past it mentions that there’s not enough headroom in the rear seats for someone about six foot tall or more.
I like it. If it doesn’t make you blush then you didn’t go low enough! 😁
Give it a couple days, they'll come around. Pretty much like dating
so better i buy the Mazda 6 signature? 🙊
good dislikes. I like actual everyday problems vs pettiness like redline reviews will get. good vid.
Thank you very much!
I live in Texas. Bad A/C is a dealbreaker. Darn.
that mpg seems crazy.
I averaged 37mpg in cold weather!
I think those mpg numbers aren't accurate.
Navigation is part of Premium package, in Canada at least.
None of the 5 disadvantages are applicable to the Mazda 3's on the european market somehow.
Great to hear from you Key! That A/C though for real. My passengers were upset, especially a pregnant one In the back 😅. Thanks again!
Prime Autotainment - Right 🤣
If I ever get one of these I will just all wheel drive swap a manual transmission premium and get an aftermarket exhaust and Ecu tune and I would love it
Its weird that in different countries you get different options, for example, In my country (Canada) you can get manual transmission on all models, as well as the sedan, you also get a heated steering wheel, and rear parking sensors with the trajectory thing when you turn the wheel. And ive seen that in Australia you get rear seat vents.
You lie. YOu cannot get the 3 in manual with AWD or Turbo.
I’m 3 years late but did you find a solution for the hesitation issue ??
@@gregholman2930 do you remember which reviewer? My current 2008 Mazda also had weak ac and my new car will need to improve on it
@@grimacemcccheese I don't, i'm sorry; I watch a ton of reviewers.
I thought the rear pillar styling would grow on me, but I still find it incredibly ugly. Do love the red seats, though.
do u have the hatch?
I sold my 2020 Mazda 3 as it had the hesitation issue with the transmission, even after I took the car to Mazda and they said they couldn't fault anything...
That's odd. The Dealer here said all models come with manuals now. Also heated steering wheel.
Are you in Canada?
@@PrimeAutotainment Melbourne Australia
Ahhh gotchya lol. That must be why. I’m in the US and we don’t get that stuff
Only the premium has the quad led halo tail lights. Other trim has smeary double halos.
in sweden we get heated steering wheel but no sun roof
I really liked your video. Based on that, i am not buying mazda3. air conditioning is poor with that said, i believe heater will be poor in winters too as i get - 40s here and i also felt that weird transmission feel. Along with that god knows what issuss arrive in coming months.
I have thought alot and going with used golf s not gti 2018. Premium feel inside, applecar play / android, comfortable ride, got turbo, little cheap and I can live with little outdated design of exterior.
Thanks for letting me know. I don’t blame you especially with those temperatures lol. Good choice on the Golf, definitely a nice vehicle! Enjoy it 😁👍
