A friend introduced me to Don in Montauk one morning. He said "this is Don Musso." He said "just call me Don." That stuck with me and 20 years later I hear him say it again.
People don’t even understand the amount of knowledge he just dropped in that short amount of time. Much respect to the OGs of surfcasting. I wish I could see these guys in there prime. Talk about some tough dudes. There just not built like these guys anymore. Thanks for the vid. We need more of the OGs dropping knowledge. Peace and health to all.✌🏼👊🏽🎣
My all time favorite plug: the 2-3/8 oz. Super Strike popper pearl body/red head. Sinking plug. Not a fan of the floaters. You could cast it a mile. You could pop it or swim it. Countless fish on that plug.
Not much plastic waste in the ocean when Don fished. Thanks to Globalization my kids will have no clean water to fish in. Sad times in the near future.
Great interview! Would've really liked to have heard your questions as he answered...I know it would've been a longer vid, but it would be worth it...tight lines 😎
I would love to see a floating green eye super N fish with a feathered tail😉😉.. although wood needles are made, and we have sp minnows. I wouldn't mind seeing some under the super strike namebrand.
Zeno, or anyone else in this channel.. , in these interviews have you ever discussed the overfishing/keeping of so many very large breeder size striped bass that these old timers from Long Island and the New York metro area did for 2 decades? Don't you think it's very obvious that the reason why the biomass size shrunk and there's very little if any 40-60lb giant Bass to be caught in surf now is because these old timers took so many large breeders out of the water unregulated. You're constantly praising all these guys but I think you should at least let them know the long term consequences of their ego driven splurging is now hurting the entire surf fishing community cape Cod to cape may. These famous old timers marketing lures should be giving us new generation Anglers lures for free instead of charging $30 a plug as retribution for the damage they've done.
They paid their price for overfishing …in the 80/90s Then we rebuilt the stock and had epic fishing in the 2000’s…and then WE not them, destroyed it in few years…and what we are left is a sad fishery Zeno
Gabriel, one of the first things taught to the old timers was to respect their elders. You Gabriel n the new generation were not taught. Instead of charging you 30 dollars, they should charge you 60. Give you a real reason to wine n cry about how you have been wronged by the old timers.
@SurfcastersJournal Well said Zeno. It's Sad that folks look past the recent years and blame the guys before them. It's our actions now that matter to preserve what's left and nurture it back to life.
Wow. Blaming a few people is hardly fair or correct. Do you think there were just a few guys fishing in just a few areas that destroyed the fishery. In addition, the people back then didn't have the science and knowledge we do today. So what is our excuse!

Literally 95 percent of people who watch this have no idea the knowledge you just gained

This was an excellent interview. So much history. They sure don't make them like him anymore.
Legendary status
"Conrad" was Conrad Malicoat. Great Fishermen, and artist from cape cod.
Thank you Zeno. My quarantined ass is starting to lose the plot, this was a great watch.
Ty boss
The last sentence, is what we really need for the current generation...
Always love hearing Don talk about the old days.when these guys talk people listen.if they have any idea about bass fishing
I love how Mr Musso uses the phrase "turn around" In so many different contexts with various meanings.
Not much plastic waste in the ocean when Don fished. Thanks to Globalization my kids will have no clean water to fish in. Sad times in the near future.
Why does everyone try to sell ‘don muso’ super strikes for 3x the regular price? Did he stop making them?
My first blue I caught on a Super Strike Little Neck Swimmer at East Rockaway Inlet... it was 35 Inches.. 💪🔥🔥🔥
Great closing line, my 15 year old son and I just made a pencil popper that he designed, so it not gone yet.
Great interview! Would've really liked to have heard your questions as he answered...I know it would've been a longer vid, but it would be worth it...tight lines 😎
You guy's should do a documentary on Steve Campo.
My father worked for Jameson plastics...
DON YOUR A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO AND TY SIR FOR YOUR SERVICE TO GOD AND COUNTRY !!
